Previous issue date: 2005-09-15 / This study aims to know the influence of the sickle cell anemia in the education process of
children and adolescents carrying sickle cell anemia in the perception of themselves. The
research was developed searching an answer to the main inquiry: What is the influence of the
sickle cell anemia in the education process for children and adolescents carrying this anemia?
The research was developed by the qualitative research in a social-historical approach
methodogical referential. Children and adolescents carrying sickle cell anemia at the Federal
University of Goiás Hospital, constituted the population. Data was collected by semistructured
interviews and from the hospital archives. It was used an analysis of content and a
statistical analysis for interpretation of the data research indicated that the sickle cell anemia
intervenes significantly the daily routine of its carriers causing an experience of partial or total
exclusion process of the spaces, groups and activities present in daily routine of children and
adolescents. / Este trabalho objetiva conhecer a influência da anemia falciforme no processo de
escolarização das crianças e adolescentes portadores de tal doença segundo a concepção dos
mesmos. Para tanto, se realizou uma pesquisa, cujo problema de investigação foi: Qual a
influência da anemia falciforme no processo de escolarização das crianças e adolescentes
portadores desta anemia? A pesquisa foi desenvolvida à luz do referencial qualitativo, em
uma abordagem sócio-histórica. A população foi constituída por crianças e adolescentes
portadores de anemia falciforme, atendidos pelo Hospital das Clínicas da UFG. Os
instrumentos de pesquisa foram entrevistas semi-estruturadas e prontuários.Utilizou-se de
análise estatística e de conteúdo para interpretação dos dados encontrados. A pesquisa indicou
que a anemia falciforme interfere significativamente no cotidiano de seus portadores
provocando a vivência de um processo de exclusão parcial ou total dos espaços, grupos e
atividades presentes no cotidiano de crianças e adolescentes.
