C-uppsatsen avhandlar överraskning, en av grundprinciperna för krigföring i den svenska operativa- och högre taktiska markstridsdoktrinen. Strävan med uppsatsen är att klarlägga de grundläggande faktorer som överraskningen kan sägas bestå av samt att skapa en modell av faktorernas inbördes förhållande och ömsesidiga beroende, syftande till att på ett avgörande sätt överraska motståndaren.Den empiriska undersökningen sker genom en analys av fem erkända militärteoretiker. De grundläggande faktorer för överraskning som framkommer efter analysen, prövas mot praktiska operativ verksamhet i en begränsad fallstudie. Faktorernas framtida giltighet hypotesprövas i en studie som utgår från två hypoteser om Dominant Battlespace Awareness.Avslutningsvis förs en diskussion om hur utbildningen av svenska officerare bör utvecklas för att på ett bättre sätt än idag, möjliggöra ett operativt agerande, syftande till att nå ett avgörande genom att utnyttja överraskning på taktisk nivå. / This thesis deals with surprise, one of the basic principles of war in the Swedish operational land-battle doctrine. The purpose, from a military-theory perspective, is to elucidate the fundamental elements that surprise can be said to be composed of and to create a model of reciprocal relations and mutual dependence, in order to achieve surprise of the adversary in a decisive way. The empirical research will be accomplished by using an analysis of five acknowledged military theorists. The fundamental elements of surprise, which appear from the analysis, will be examined in practical operational operations through a limited case study. The validity of elements in a future military environment will be tested in a discussion about two hypotheses of Dominant Battlespace Awareness. In conclusion, a discussion will be carried out on how the education and training of Swedish officers ought to be more effectively directed than it is today.
