The aim of this study has been to contribute with knowledge regarding how special needs education teachers and preschool teachers constitute the role of the special needs education teacher in a minor muncipality. DIscourse analysis method and approach was used in this study, where two discourses, the inclusicve and neuropsychiatric, were identified. Within these discourses, five subject positions emerged: sounding board, supervisor, advisor, gatekeeper and expert. A number of organizational problems were identified in relation to the special needs educations teachers´role in the preschool context. These concerned the expectations of the special needs education teacher and organizational factors. The findings implies that the preschool teachers and the special needs education teachers differ in their connection to the practical operations of the preschool. Discussions of regulating the special educations teachers´role in preschool policy ducuments, regulations and guidelines conclude this study.
