Esta dissertação traz o resultado de uma investigação sobre a ideia de educação
presente na obra de Arthur Schopenhauer. O Homem é educado, natural ou
artificialmente, em todos os momentos de sua vida. A educação natural, a qual o
autor atribui maior importância, diz respeito ao saber que tem início na afecção,
etapa que antecede o saber intelectivo. O processo educativo, então, começa com
um ato (inconsciente) da Vontade do indivíduo que dirige sua atenção a algo externo
a ele. A filosofia de Schopenhauer possui um viés pessimista, pois considera que
viver é estar condenado ao sofrimento. A educação, assim, não teria o escopo de
livrar o ser humano do sofrimento, mas, através de uma educação intelectual
apurada, oferecer-lhe meios para a condução de sua vida prática. Não somente
fornece o conhecimento referente ao fazer, mas também, o dos limites em que os
seres humanos estão circunscritos em razão de sua não-liberdade. Uma educação a
partir de uma perspectiva pessimista arranca do ser humano a pretensão de
superioridade em relação às demais criaturas existentes. Desse modo, abre-se
espaço para questionamentos acerca da relação entre a educação e o
aperfeiçoamento moral do ser humano. / This thesis brings results of an investigation of the idea of education present in the
work of Arthur Schopenhauer. Man is educated, naturally or artificially, at all times of
his life. The natural education, to which the author attributes most importance, relates
to that knowledge of affection, a stage that precedes intellectual knowledge. The
educational process then begins with an (unconscious) act of a person’s Will, who
aims one’s attention to something external to oneself. Schopenhauer's philosophy
has a pessimistic line of thinking because it considers that living is to be doomed to
suffering. Education, therefore, would not have the scope to free human being from
suffering, but through a refined intellectual education, it would provide means to
conduct one’s practical life. Not only it would provide practical knowledge, but also,
the limits of where humans are bound, due to their non-freedom. An education from a
pessimistic view rips off of the human being a pretense superiority in relation to other
existing creatures. Thus, a space for questions about the relationship between
education and moral improvement of the human being is created.
