Previous issue date: 2013-08-30 / CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Sendo a educação produto de seu tempo, com o desenvolvimento das sociedades modernas, alem de mecanismo de socialização passa a ser também um instrumento capaz de fazer ajustes sociais. Embora haja opiniões contraditórias, a educação traz em si a crença de ser uma ferramenta capaz de minorar as desigualdades sociais. As políticas desencadeadas nos anos de 1990, no Brasil em consonância com mundo, mostram a convergência existente entre sistemas de ensino e projetos sociais, políticos e econômicos mais amplos. Frente ao maciço alargamento das vagas ofertadas no sistema de ensino brasileiro, os índices de desempenho cognitivo dos alunos não acompanharam tal reestruturação. O fracasso das escolas públicas é gerado por uma infinidade de fatores que agem sobre o aluno de forma concatenada, gerando os mais distintos efeitos. Encontrar tais fatores tem sido o grande desafio dos estudos de sociologia da educação. No presente estudo por meio de pesquisa quantitativa com dados do SAEB 2005, procuramos encontrar a existência de possíveis relações entre algumas características que consideramos pertinentes nos professores e os resultados encontrados nas notas dos alunos. / Education is a byproduct of its time and with the development of modern societies it turns not only into a mechanism of socialization but is also capable to operate social adjustments. Despite contradictory opinions education brings with its self the belief that it is a tool of social transformation. The policies in the 90s in Brazil and in the rest of the world show the convergence between educational systems, social, political and broader economical projects. The massive expansion of the school system was not accompanied by the enhancing of the cognitive performance and achievement of the students. The failure of the public school system is generated by compound factors which affects the students in different ways. The analysis of these factors has been one of the great challenges of sociology of education. In the present dissertation we try to find the possible relevant correlations between teachers and students with the help of a SAEB 2005 quantitative research.
