Na primeira, foram investigadas junto a 300 estudantes de graduação da UFSC suas atitudes face ao autoritarismo, seus valores para a construção da sociedade ideal, sua participação política, inserção social e representação de democracia. Na segunda etapa, realizamos entrevistas com nove daqueles estudantes, onde abordamos os temas da política, juventude, democracia e perspectivas de futuro. Do ponto de vista aqui adotado, as atitudes e valores, enquanto dimensões das representações sociais, atuam como mediadoras junto à esfera do comportamento político. Mas este não é um movimento linear, já que elementos surgidos a partir da inserção social e participação política também são constitutivos da construção das representações. O estudo da relação entre as representações e a participação dos estudantes frente à política pressupõe uma articulação entre aspectos sociológicos e psicológicos do fenômeno político, e, nesse sentido, procuramos compreender as representações entre configurações culturais dominantes por um lado, e a dinâmica social em seu conjunto por outro. De forma sucinta, situamos a participação juvenil - em particular o segmento universitário - no contexto de transformações políticas e sociais ocorridas desde a década de 60, no intuito de indicar que estas transformações alteraram a relação deste segmento social com a "esfera da política", delineando um novo perfil. À luz do referencial teórico adotado, procuramos compreender as representações e o comportamento político daqueles estudantes, em seu conjunto e em relação ao contexto envolvente. / This study has been developed in two steps. The first one was the investigation of the attitudes of 300 students towards authoritarianism, and the values they put into issue for the construction of the ideal society, together with their political participation, social insertion and representation of democracy. In the second step, we interviewed nine of those 300 students about politics, youth, democracy and their perspectives on the future. From the point of view adopted here, attitudes and values, conceived as dimensions of social representation, assume an intermediate position in relation to the field of political behavior. But this is not a linear movement, since some elements risen from the social insertion and political participation also partake in the construction of representations. The study of the relationship between representations and political participation presupposes an articulation of social and psychological aspects of the political phenomenon. In this sense, we tried to understand the representations between dominant cultural configurations, on the one hand, and, on the other, the social dynamics as a whole. We synthetically located the youth participation - particularly the collegiate segment - within the context of the political and social transformations that has been taking place since the 60's. So we did in order to indicate that such transformations altered the relationship between that social segment and the "political sphere", outlining a new complexion. Within the theoretical frame we adopted, we tried to understand those students' representations and political behavior, both in an isolated view and in relation to the entailing context.
