Este trabalho apresenta uma leitura dos romances Texaco, de Patrick Chamoiseau, e Cidade de Deus, de Paulo Lins, a partir dos espaços onde se desenvolvem as narrativas: respectivamente as favelas Texaco, em Fort-de-France, Martinica, e Cidade de Deus, no Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. O objetivo do estudo é analisar a formação e o desenvolvimento do espaço e identificar as implicações que ele terá na constituição da identidade pessoal das personagens e, ao mesmo tempo, como essa interação contribuirá para a construção da identidade das próprias favelas. O texto, precedido por uma Introdução que traz um preâmbulo sobre a relação entre esses dois romances, está dividido em três capítulos: Que espaços são esses?, em que há uma breve discussão das questões que envolvem a ficcionalização dessas favelas nos romances e do aparato teórico sobre espaço que nos guiará nas análises; Texaco: a luta coletiva pelo espaço e Cidade de Deus: a luta individual no espaço, capítulos nos quais nos detemos mais demoradamente na leitura dos livros de Chamoiseau e Lins. Nas considerações finais, discutem-se como as personagens, e o próprio espaço transformado em personagem, traçam suas trajetórias pessoais a partir de percursos inversos. / This paper presents the analysis of the novels Texaco, by Patrick Chamoiseau, and City of God, by Paulo Lins, considering the spaces where the stories take place: respectively in Texaco slum, in Fort-de-France, Martinica, and City of God, a slum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The purpose of this project is to analyze the space and to identify the implications resulted from the gathering and development of these environments in the creation of the characters personal identities and, at the same time, to show how this interaction contributes with the creation of the slums identities. The text, preceded by an Introduction that brings the preamble on the relation of these two novels, is divided into three chapters: What are these places?, in which there is a brief discussion on matters related to the fictionalization of the slums in the stories and the theoretical support to guide the analysis; Texaco: the collective fight for the space and City of God: the individual fight for the space, chapters we dedicate to the reading of both Chamoiseaus and Lins novels. The final considerations show how the characters and the space, also converted into a character, develop their own paths from the building of inverted ways.
