The aim of the present research is to examine differences between the speech of women and men in fiction. In order to achieve the aim the following objectives have been set: to present attitudes of various scholars towards gender differences in communication process; to establish the range of gender differences in communicative competence, to reveal how gender differences in communicative competence are represented in fiction. The novelty of the work lies in the analysis of gender differences in language in terms of their reflection in fiction genre. The practical part will discuss the findings of the research into male and female language representation in fiction. For the purpose of the investigation 110 examples of the conversations have been picked out from The Complete Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway (1998) and Martin Eden (2008) by Jack London. The analysis of women’s and men’s speech has led to the conclusions that men and women do not use and interpret language in the same way. / Šio tyrimo tikslas yra išnagrinėti moterų ir vyrų kalbos skirtumus grožinėje literatūroje. Kad pasiekti tikslą, buvo nustatyti tokie uždaviniai: pristatyti įvairių mokslininkų skirtingus požiūrius į lyčių skirtumus komunikacijos procese; nustatyti lyčių skirtumus bendravimo kompetencijų srityse; atskleisti, kaip lyčių skirtumai bendravimo kompetencijų srityje yra pristatomi grožinėje literatūroje. Darbo naujovė glūdi lyčių kalbos skirtumų analizėje, išreiškiant jų atspindžius grožinės literatūros žanre. Praktinėje dalyje bus aptariami vyrų ir moterų kalbų, vaizduojamų grožinėje literatūroje, tyrinėjimo rezultatai. Dėl tyrimo tikslo 110 pasikalbėjimo pavyzdžių bus parinkti iš Ernesto Hemingvėjaus trumpų apsakymų (1998) bei iš Džeko Londono romano „Martinas Idenas“ (2008). Moterų ir vyrų kalbos analizė privedė prie išvadų, kad vyrai ir moterys kalbą vartoja bei interpretuoja skirtingai.
