Konstruerandet av en konstnär : En diskursteoretisk analys av Gunhild Fryklunds förekomst i dagspress / Constructing an Artist : A Discourse Theoretical Analysis of the Presence of Gunhild Fryklund in Daily Press

The purpose of this study is to examine the creation of the artist identity through the example of Gunhild Fryklund. The empiric material consists of daily press and articles related to the artist. Overbearing and underlying themes that become characteristic for the artist is identified through discourse analysis. The main theories consist of Michel Foucault’s ”Qu’est-ce qu’un auteur?”, Judith Butler’s theories regarding performative gender, as well as intersectional feminist theories. The study analyzes recurrent themes, words and expressions and how they become characteristic for the artist. The result shows that Fryklund is commonly referred to in relation to her gender, teacher and domicile which influences the public perception and in turn the artistic identity. Further the result establishes that the artistry of Fryklund is a product of prevailing discourses, stereotypes and expectations for women artists in the early 20th century.
