Previous issue date: 2014 / O futebol, com essa força social de reunir multidões de apaixonados em espetáculos, a partir do seu artista principal, os jogadores, constitui-se em um agente social e de saúde. Tal tese determinou o caráter geral deste estudo, exploratório e descritivo, e orientou seu objetivo, de analisar histórias de vida e o contexto do trabalho de jogadores de futebol e as implicações destes com a produção social de subjetividade e de saúde. Utilizou-se como instrumento para coleta de dados a entrevista semidiretiva, aplicada a 16 jogadores de futebol profissional. Organizou-se a tabulação e análise de dados a partir do modelo de Creswell e o método do Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo (DSC) de Lefèvre e Lefèvre, utilizando figuras metodológicas, expressões-chaves e ideias centrais. A organização do discurso foi realizada em duas etapas de análise: Iniciação no Futebol; e Profissionalização, Carreira e Vida Pessoal. A etapa Iniciação no Futebol admitiu como elementos centrais o Sonho de ser Jogador de Futebol; Vulnerabilidades da Infância; Vulnerabilidade na Iniciação da Carreira; e Apoio familiar e Social; e na segunda etapa Profissionalização, Carreira e Vida: o Contexto do Clube de Futebol; Experiência em clubes estrangeiros; Vulnerabilidade da Persona/Empresários; Ídolo/Persona; Lesões: Mídia; Gestão de Carreira; Gestão Financeira, Transição de Carreira e Aposentadoria. Chamou atenção, particularmente, a importância dada pelos jogadores às vulnerabilidades propiciadas no contexto da profissão. A gestão não profissionalizada dos clubes de futebol interfere negativamente na carreira dos jogadores, não propiciando orientações e acompanhamento desde a iniciação de carreira até a profissionalização e aposentadoria. Vimos que as histórias de vida e de profissão do jogador de futebol como objeto de estudo auxiliam sobremaneira na compreensão do contexto social, político e cultural do futebol no Brasil. O futebol implica na produção social de subjetividades e interfere na construção identitária e social do brasileiro. O sonho de se tornar um jogador de futebol, um ídolo, um herói nacional e um milionário habita o inconsciente coletivo de milhares de jovens no país, contagiando pais, familiares, professores e outros atores sociais, potencializado por um considerável aparato industrial, de mídia e de mercado. Com isso, o futebol ajuda a moldar valores, crenças, atitudes e comportamentos afetando diversas áreas do viver de indivíduos e grupos envolvendo-se direta e indiretamente em seus domínios existenciais. Com sua força motriz o futebol torna-se também ferramenta para programas e projetos de proteção, prevenção, recuperação e promoção de saúde, muitos deles voltados para populações de crianças e adolescentes, inclusive para aformulação de políticas sobre álcool e drogas. O universo do futebol se inclui políticas, legislações e programas internacionais, inclusive da Organização Mundial da Saúde e ações intersetoriais envolvendo os setores público e privado com e sem fins lucrativos. A implementação atual no Brasil de um programa governamental de Promoção de Saúde para Adolescentes e Jovens a partir do futebol com foco na construção de projetos de vida e de futuro, objetiva minimizar as vulnerabilidades sociais. Esta tese busca articular estas diferentes vertentes setoriais, disciplinares e existenciais, tomando as histórias de vida e trabalho dos jogadores para sustentar a ideia de que o futebol pode e deve ser pensado como elemento contributivo para a saúde, para o desenvolvimento dos jovens e para a humanização de seu contexto profissional.<br> / Abstract : Because of its capacity - thanks to the appeal of its main artists, the players ? for gathering crowds of fans in a spectacle, Football ("soccer" in the USA) constitutes itself both as a health and a social agent. This thesis defines the general aim of the present dissertation, which is both exploratory and descriptive, and governs its focus, namely, to analyze life stories and the profession of football players as well as their implications within the social production of health and subjectivity. The study is based on semi-guided interviews, conducted onto 16 professional football players, which are used as a data collection tool. In order to establish tabulation and data analyses I follow John W. Creswell's model as well as Fernando and Ana Maria Cavalcanti Lefèvre's Discourse of the Collective Subject (DCS), using methodological figures, keywords, and central ideas. The discourse narrative is organized in two evaluation steps: Introduction to Football; and Professionalization, Career, and Personal Life. The Introduction to Football includes as central chapters: The Dream of Becoming a Football Player; Childhood Vulnerabilities; Vulnerability at the Start of their Career; and Social and Family Support; while the second stage - Professionalization, Career and Personal Life-, is formed by the following episodes: the Football Club Context; Experience in Foreign Clubs; Vulnerability of the Individual / Entrepreneur; Idol / Person; Injuries; Media; Career Management; Financial Management, and Transition from Active Career to Retirement. It is particularly worth calling to attention the importance given by football players to the vulnerabilities resulting from their profession. Non-professional management in football clubs negatively interferes in the players' career, by not providing the necessary advice and monitoring of the individuals from the start of their careers to their professionalization and retirement. As it is shown here, life and professional stories of football players as an object of study largely contribute to a deeper understanding of the social, political, and cultural context of Brazilian football. Football affects the social production of subjectivities and interferes in the social and identity construction of Brazilians. The dream of becoming a football player, an idol, a national hero - and a millionaire - inhabits the collective unconscious of thousands of youngsters in the country; it passes on to parents, relatives, teachers, and other social agents, backed by the complex industries of the market and media. Thus, football contributes to the formation of values, beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors that affect various areas of the individuals' lives as well as groups directly and indirectly related to them and to each other. Because of itsimportance as a driving force, football also becomes a useful tool in health programs aimed at promotion, prevention, protection, recuperation, and encouragement of healthy habits, many of them targeting groups of youngsters and teenagers, including those belonging to the public policies on alcohol and drug consumption. The football world is involved in international legislation, policies, and programs such as those from the World Health Organization; it also promotes transversal cooperation among private companies and public organizations, for profit or non-profit. The implementation of a football-based governmental program of Health Promotion for Teenagers and Youngsters, focused on the definition of their future life goals ? nowadays in progress in Brazil - aims to minimize specific social vulnerabilities. Finally, the present dissertation intends to articulate the above-mentioned sectorial, disciplinary, and categorical areas by taking life and work stories to support the idea that football can and should be thought as a positive element for health and youth development, which can also contribute to the humanization of the health professional sector.
