Om barnböcker som material i undervisning om främlingsfientlighet : Kan berättelserna skapa eller förebygga främlingsfientlighet? / Children’s books as a material in education of xenophobia : Can a story prevent or create xenophobia?

Today’s society is multicultural which can lead to racism and prejudices. Racism is created by prejudices and values. These values and prejudices are passed on to the children through media parents and/or society. The children then make these values to their own. To prevent racism everybody has to be involved. School is a place where the teachers can start to prevent racism by for example using books that is related to the subject. By reading and talking about the books, the children get the opportunity to learn about others opinions and thoughts on racism. The teacher can start by discussing what happens in the book and then more on to talking about questions from real life. Children that are given the opportunity to discuss racism are given a better chance to understand and change their values and prejudices.
