Previous issue date: 2005 / Resumo: Este trabalho teve por objetivo analisar a Educação no Brasil utilizando recortes históricos, desde a chegada dos Jesuítas até o ano 2002; pesquisar a epistemologia da Geografia e fazer um levantamento sobre a existência e localização dos cursos de graduação em Geografia (licenciatura e bacharelado) e a localização geográfica dos cursos de pós-graduação da área; verificar a produção científica geográfica; discutir a globalização atual, fazendo uma análise crítica sobre este período, assim como propor o uso da matriz geográfica crítica para melhor analisar o espaço geográfico em sala de aula. Nas considerações finais, apresentaram-se sugestões para melhorar o trabalho da área de humanas nas escolas de ensino Fundamental, Médio e Universitário, objetivando uma nova escola, um novo professor de Geografia e como conseqüência um novo aluno, crítico, participativo, politizado e com uma visão de mundo universalista, características essenciais para o pleno desenvolvimento da cidadania / Abstract: This work had the goal to analyze Education in Brazil using historical notes since the arrival of the Jesuits until the year 2002; investigate the epistemology of Geography and perform a research about the existence and localization of graduation courses in Geography (for both licentiate and bachelor degrees) and the geographical localization of post-graduation courses of this field; verify the geographical scientific production; discuss the current globalization, performing an critical analysis about this period, as well as proposing the use of the critical geographical matrix in order to better analyze the geographical space in the classroom. In the final considerations, suggestions were presented to improve work in the field of human sciences in schools of all levels, with the aim of creating a new school, a new Geography teacher and, as a consequence, a new, critical, participative and politicized student, with a universalistic view of the world; all being essential characteristics for the complete development of citizenshi / Mestrado / Historia e Filosofia da Educação / Mestre em Educação
