Este trabalho é o resultado de uma pesquisa feita numa escola pública da Grande Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, onde se buscou analisar a relação que há entre gênero, principalmente a construção e manutenção das masculinidades, e um gap que se observa na educação brasileira e mundial (daí o termo em inglês) entre o desempenho escolar masculino e o desempenho escolar feminino. O primeiro olhar surge do educador que se torna pesquisador e que, assim, parte para a busca de respostas, que não se querem únicas, para esse distanciamento escolar entre gêneros. O que se observa é que, na construção e manutenção das masculinidades, em especial aquela que se considera hegemônica, esse distanciamento vai se tornando uma realidade, colocando o menino em posição inferior à das meninas no processo escolar. / This paper is the result of a research done in a public school located in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, where the analysis of the relation between gender, mainly the construction and maintenance of masculinities, and a gap observed in the Brazilian Education as well as in the global education (hence the term in English, used in the text in Portuguese) between the masculine performance and the feminine performance at school was searched. The first look emerges from the educator who becomes the researcher, and so, goes for the search of answers, which do not intend to be the only ones, for this gap at school between the two genders. What is observed is that, on the construction and maintenance of masculinities, especially the one considered hegemonic, this gap becomes a reality, placing the boy in an inferior position relating to the girls in the learning process at school.
