Mitt examensarbete diskuterar behovet och det faktiska användandet av, ett genus perspektiv inom Studie- och yrkesvägledarutbildningen vid Malmö Högskola. Arbetet belyser en utvald grupp färdigutbildade vägledares uppfattning om behovet av kunskap i genusteori i sitt arbete. Dessutom ville jag undersöka hur vägledarna ser på sina egna kunskaper om genus. Slutligen ville jag titta på hur synen på individen i genusteori förhåller sig till samtalsmodeller. Bakgrunden till detta arbete grundar sig på mina praktikerfarenheter där jag upplevde att tjejer och killar presenterades för helt skilda utbildningar och yrken beroende på vilket kön de hade. Jag har tagit del av tidigare forskning som berör ämnet genus, könsroller, vägledning med genusperspektiv samt tidigare forskning från Malmö Högskola som vidrör de teman som jag undersökt. Teorierna utgår från genus- och vägledningsteori som jag använder mig av för att analysera resultaten. Jag har använt mig av kvalitativ metod för att undersöka mitt syfte. Fem intervjuer genomfördes med vägledare som tog examen från studie- och yrkesvägledarutbildningen på Malmö Högskola åren 2006- 2007. Informanterna arbetar idag alla fem på grund- eller gymnasieskolor. Malmö Högskola säger sig ha genus som ett av de perspektiv, genom vilka samtliga av skolan utbildningar skall betraktas. Min undersökning visar dock på otillräckligt användande av ett sådant perspektiv inom Studie- och yrkesvägledarutbildningen, genom bristande kunskap i genusteori, bland de utvalda vägledare jag intervjuat. Malmö Högskola måste ge sina studenter på programmet kunskap inom detta område. Först då kan färdigutbildade studie- och yrkesvägledare utföra sitt arbete att hjälpa sökande med sina val, obegränsade av könstillhörighet. / The aim of my thesis is to discuss the need for and the actual use of, a gender perspective within Studie- och yrkesvägledarutbildningen at Malmö Högskola. The study elucidates a selected group of graduated career counselors’ opinion on how important knowledge of gender theory is within their work. Furthermore the counselors own knowledge of the subject, has been under investigation. Additionally I wanted to chart the relationship between how the individual is understood in gender theory and a number of accepted models of communication. The reason I chose this as my thesis, is my own experience from practical training. Here I have seen how boys and girls were treated differently and proposed to varying professions, depending on their sex. Thus I have studied previous research concerning the subjects of gender theory, gender roles and counseling with a gender perspective, from external institutions as well as Malmö Högskola itself. My own theories are based on those gender- and counseling theories I have used to analyze my results. The survey has been executed through qualitative method. Five of the interviews were carried out among counselors who graduated from Studie- och yrkesvägledarutbildningen at Malmö Högskola between the years 2006-2007. Today all of these individuals work at institutions corresponding to primary, secondary or upper secondary schools. Malmö Högskola explicitly has gender as one of its perspective through which its education shall be considered, also including Studie- och yrkesvägledarutbildingen. However, my conclusion shows an insufficient use of such a perspective within the program, through an evident lack of gender theory knowledge, among the selected and interviewed group of career counselors. Malmö Högskola must provide its students at Studie- och yrkesvägledarutbildningen with the education needed within this field. Then graduates are enabled to perform their job, helping applicants with their choices, without them being limited by sex.
