Previous issue date: 2016-03-18 / A presente pesquisa foi desenvolvida no âmbito do Mestrado Profissional em Patrimônio Cultural, Paisagens e Cidadania. Trata-se de um estudo sobre as políticas patrimoniais do município de Viçosa, MG. O período abarcado no trabalho está compreendido entre os anos de 1980 e 2010, quando se intensificaram os discursos identitários de alguns grupos sociais da cidade, até a sua materialização em um conjunto patrimonial. A paisagem do município é marcada por ícones eleitos como patrimônios e igualmente, pela destruição daqueles que não foram selecionados como tais. Esse processo não ocorreu sem conflitos. A partir desse pressuposto, o objetivo central do trabalho foi analisar as discussões relacionadas ao patrimônio, enfatizando os diferentes grupos sociais cujos interesses se chocaram nesse contexto. E ainda, analisar como os discursos predominantes, acabaram por modelar a paisagem da cidade, através das políticas públicas. Conceitos como memória, “lugares de memória”, paisagem e identidade são caros à discussão. O trabalho se dedicou a analisar os discursos oficiais referentes ao patrimônio, com a finalidade de interpretá-los, identificando os interesses por eles representados e confrontando-os a outros que foram marginalizados. Para tanto, foram analisados documentos constantes do Arquivo da Câmara Municipal de Viçosa. Também foram investigados o acervo documental do Arquivo do Departamento Municipal de Cultura e Patrimônio, os arquivos do jornal Folha da Mata, textos publicados em blogs mantidos por moradores de Viçosa, além da bibliografia de caráter memorialista, de autores viçosenses. Além da análise teórica, realizamos uma intervenção prática que constitui o “Produto Final” do trabalho. Foi realizado um curso em que exploramos as possíveis relações entre o patrimônio histórico-cultural da cidade e a educação. Esperamos que a junção da análise teórica com a proposta de intervenção possa oferecer possibilidades de reflexão sobre o papel social do patrimônio histórico-cultural e contribua para a ampliação da cidadania para os diferentes grupos que compõem a sociedade viçosense. / The present research was developed during the Professional Masters on Cultural Heritage, Landscapes and Citizenship. It is a study that focuses on the patrimonial policies in the municipality of Viçosa, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The period covered in this paper goes from 1980 to 2010, when the identity discourses from some city social groups in the city strengthened, until it turned into a historical heritage. The municipality landscape is marked by icons elected as patrimony and likewise, by the destruction of those that were not selected as such. However, this process did not happen without conflicts. From this assumption, the main purpose of this paper was to analyze the discussions regarding patrimony, highlighting the different social groups whose interests went against this context as well as analyze how the predominant discourses ended up modeling the city landscape, through public policies. Concepts such as memory, “memory places”, landscape and identity are important for the discussion. This paper engaged in analyzing the official discourses regarding patrimony, with the purpose of interpreting them, identifying the interests they represented and confronting them to the others that were marginalized. Therefore, documents found in the Archives of the Municipal Council of Viçosa were analyzed. The documental collection found in the Archives of the Culture and Heritage City Department, the archives from the Folha da Mata newspaper, texts published in blogs kept by dwellers in Viçosa, as well as bibliography of memorialistic character written by authors born in Viçosa were also investigated. Besides the theoretical analysis, we did a practical intervention which constitutes the “Final Product” of this paper. A course in which we explored the possible relationship between the historic-cultural heritage of the city and education was held. We hope that by putting together the theoretical analysis with the intervention proposal one can offer possibilities for reflection on the social role of the historical-cultural heritage and it may contribute for the expansion of citizenship for the different groups that the Viçosense society is made of.
