Förskollärarnas interkulturella förhållningssätt & arbetssätt / Preschool teachers intercultural approach & work procedure

In this study, we have investigated preschool teachers' understanding of interculturality for the possibility of answering the purpose of the study, if the preschool teachers have an intercultural approach and how the preschool teachers work interculturally in the preschool. Intercultural pedagogical work has existed witihin the preschool and elementary school operations for over two decades, despite this, intercultural pedagogy has been described as a shortage in terms of how it can be shaped in teching situations and in the organization. The study´s results were analyzed and discussed based on sociocultural theory. A qualitative research method was used with av sample of preschool teachers for the collection of datamaterial. The results showed that the preschool teachers had a varied understanding of the concept. The preschool teachers described various useful tools in intercultural work. Language barriers were expressed as one of the major challenges. Opportunitites in intercultural work were described as increased knowledge, new perspectives and understanding of other people´s ways of life. The conclusions in this study were that the preschool teachers expressed and uncertainty about what interculturality means, while it emerged that the preschool teachers had an intercultural approach.
