Filmer i engelskundervisningen i lågstadiet / Using Film in a Primary School Context : A Qualitive Study on the Use of Films in the Teaching of English as a SecondLanguage.

The spring of 2017, we conducted a study in a few classes in the grades 1-3 withthe specific aim to explore how teachers’ use the medium of film in the classroomin order to teach English as a second language, and how the use of moviespotentially influences the pupils’ learning. The data collection methods used in the study were five semi-structuredinterviews, which were conducted over the telephone; and in connection withthese interviews participating teachers were also asked to hand out and collect aquestionnaire to the total of 75 pupils in the grades 1-3 that they collectivelytaught. The results of the study suggest that the teachers use movies as a complementto the current English teaching, and to give variety to the teaching, which givesthe pupils motivation. The results also suggest that through the implementationof film in the classroom, pupils increase their vocabulary and practice hearingcomprehension. Our conclusion is therefore that movies complement English teaching andmotivates the pupils to learn English in school.
