This thesis examines the ideas shaping Swedish drug policy through an analysis of theofficial party programs of the parliamentary parties. The results indicate distinctideological orientations among seven out of eight parties, influencing their approachesto drug-related issues. Social Democrats and Moderates demonstrate a certain balancebetween ideological and scientific considerations, while Sweden Democrats and theLeft Party emerge as clearly ideological and scientific, respectively. The Centre Partycontributes a pragmatic dimension by balancing ideological principles with practicalmeasures to address drug-related challenges. The study underscores the importance ofunderstanding and integrating both ideological and scientific perspectives to formulateholistic and effective strategies for managing drug-related issues.
