Previous issue date: 2011-06-06 / Este texto dissertativo consiste em uma tentativa de resgatar os discursos sobre família e
sexualidade presentes em um dos mais influentes jornais católicos do Brasil, o Lar Católico.
Tal jornal, publicado pelos missionários do Verbo Divino, circulou por praticamente todo o
século XX, principalmente nos estados de Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo. O
recorte temporal estabelecido por esta pesquisa, que compreende os anos de 1954 a 1986, não
foi estipulado aleatoriamente. Na verdade esse período histórico comporta alterações no
âmbito das relações familiares e sexuais, com a aprovação da lei que permitia o divórcio no
país e com o advento e popularização dos meios anticoncepcionais. No campo da cristandade,
a realização do Concílio Vaticano II trouxe novos horizontes para o catolicismo, pois tinha
por objetivo aproximar a Igreja Católica do mundo contemporâneo. Cabe a esta pesquisa
analisar como essas alterações foram percebidas pelos editores do Lar Católico e como elas
foram mobilizadas para se adequarem ao projeto do jornal, que consistia na ordenação social
através da construção de relações familiares. Assim, interessa observar o modo como o
periódico conduziu a discussão sobre a família, evidenciando o seu posicionamento sobre o
divórcio, o número de filhos e maternidade e como ele pretendeu controlar os corpos,
enfatizando temas como virgindade, aborto e sexualidade feminina. Além disso, esta
dissertação também se ocupa em perceber como os discursos elaborados pelo jornal, que
possibilitaram a construção de diversas representações sobre gênero, família e sexualidade,
foram apropriados pelos leitores e embasaram as suas práticas. Para alcançar esse objetivo,
empreendeu-se a discussão a respeito do conteúdo de uma coluna específica, denominada
Intercâmbio com os Leitores. Tal coluna consistia em um espaço no qual os mesmos
poderiam desenvolver laços de sociabilidade, relatar seus descontentamentos em relação os
seus cônjuges, revelar seus conflitos e harmonias familiares e ainda buscar novas alternativas
de relacionamentos afetivos. / This dissertative text is an attempt to recover the speeches about family and sexuality
presented in one of the most influential Catholic newspapers in Brazil, the Lar Católico. This
newspaper, published by the Verbo Divino missionaries, circulated by virtually the entire
twentieth century, especially in the states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The
time frame established by this research that covers the years 1954 to 1986, was not set at
random. In fact, this historical period contains modifications in the context of familiar and
sexual relationships, with the approval of the law that allowed divorce in the country and with
the advent and popularization of contraceptive methods. In the field of Christianity occurs
The Second Vatican Council, which was intended to approach the Catholic Church with the
contemporary world. The intention of this research is to analyze how these changes were
perceived by the editors of Lar Católico and how they were mobilized to suit the design of the
newspaper, which consisted of the social order by building family relationships. Thus, it is
interesting to observe how the newspaper conducted the discussion about family, showing its
position on divorce, the number of children and motherhood and how it intended to control
the bodies, emphasizing issues such as virginity, abortion and female sexuality. Furthermore,
this dissertation also try to perceive how the speeches elaborated by the newspaper, which
allowed the construction of different representations of gender, family and sexuality, were
appropriated by readers and had based their practices. To achieve this goal, the discussion was
undertaken regarding the content of a particular column, named Intercâmbio com os Leitores,
which consisted of a space in which they could develop bonds of sociability, report their
discontentment about their spouses, reveal their conflicts and familiar union and even find
new relationships.
