Social inkludering genom Digitalisering : En kvalitativ studie om idrottfsöreningars förhållningssätt till att införa E-sportaktiviteter i deras verksamhet

The dropout rates of youth from organized sports are a growing concern globally. In Sweden, the decline in traditional sports participation has coincided with the rise of E-sports as an alternative recreational activity. While traditional sports offer physical and social benefits, E-sports provide a different avenue for competition and community building. The integration of E-sport into Swedish sports movement signals a shift in acceptance and presents opportunities for growth and inclusion within sports organizations. However, organizational identity may pose a barrier to the adoption of E-sports, as sport clubs may resist change due to entrenched notions of elitism. Yet, embracing E-sports presents an opportunity for sports organizations to adapt and create a more inclusive environment for youth engagement. This study explores the perspectives of sport clubs in Västerbotten regarding the inclusion of E-sport activities in their operations. The research aims to investigate the resources and support needed by these clubs to introduce such activities. Using qualitive methods, data was collected through semi-structured interviews with representatives from various sport clubs in Västerbotten. The thematic analysis approach was employed to identify patterns and themes within the data. The findings reveal that while there is a significant potential perceived by clubs in integrating E-sportactivates, several challenges exist, primarily related to knowledge gaps and resource limitations. The study underscores the importance of strategic interventions and collaboration among stakeholders to facilitate the sustainable integration of E-sport within sport clubs in Västerbotten.
