Teaching materials are the pedagogical aids that are used as resources for learning in teaching. This thesis examines how Swedish teachers in upper secondary school choose teaching materials. The main purpose of the thesis is to investigate how free Swedish teachers consider themselves to be in the choice of teaching materials. The sub-objectives of the essay are designed according to factors that can reasonably influence the choice of teaching materials and the perceived freedom in the choice. The sub-aims of the thesis concern collegial collaboration on teaching materials and the principal's responsibility and support in the work with teaching materials. The survey is based on seven interviews with Swedish teachers in upper secondary school. The results show that only one of the informants feels that they have the opportunity to influence which teaching material choices are made at the school, the other informants believe that they are not included in the choice and that they therefore supplement the teaching materials purchased for the school with self-produced material. The only informant who feels that they have the opportunity to influence which teaching material choices are made at school is also the only one who states that they feel supported in the work with the choice of teaching materials and who believes that there is time for organized collegial collaboration on choosing teaching materials.
