Lärarens syn på läsmotivation : En studie om främjandet av pojkar och flickors läsmotivation / Teacher’s Perspective on Reading Motivation : A Study About Enhancing Boys and Girls Reading Motivation

The purpose of this study is about finding out different teachers’ perspectives on enhancingtheir students reading motivation. A further purpose is to try and find out if these teachersbelieve that there are any differences between boys’ and girls’ desire to read. In order toresearch these questions, eight different middle school teachers have been interviewed. Reading motivation is an important part of the Swedish school system, especially in thesubject of the Swedish language. In this study we find out that multimodal texts are a goodmethod of enhancing students’ reading motivation. Other useful methods of improvingreading motivation were, book discussions, discussing the purpose of reading and also lettingthe students read in pairs or in small groups. The results of this study also showed that most of the interviewed teachers believe that girlstend to be more motivated to read than boys. The student’s personality was also a possiblefactor their attitude towards reading. Therefore, my conclusion is that even if girls tend to be more motivated than boys, it’simportant to look at every student as different individual, regardless of gender.
