Previous issue date: 2000 / Resumo: Este trabalho teve como objetivo estudar a invenção da tradição religiosa da Cruz da Menina na cidade de Patos, interior da Paraíba, no período de 1923 a 1995, problematizando como, a partir de um crime bárbaro de uma criança, se construiu historicamente um imaginário religioso que edificou e legitimou a menina Francisca como a Santa da Cruz da Menina. Percebendo como
as "artes de fazer" são produzidas, apropriadas e pontuadas pelos discursos na elaboração e institucionalizaçãoda crença, a partir dos seguintes marcos elencados: a morte em 1923 da menina Francisca e a sua elaboração lingüística/documentala partir da abertura do inquérito policial; a construção da capela em 1929, abertura do processo-crime em 1932 e a construção de um parque turistico religioso em volta da capela em 1993, discutindo como esses marcos são acionados e ressignificados pela construção de uma memória social / Abstract: The aim of this work was to study the invention of the religious tradition of "Cruz da Menina"(The Girl's Cross) in the town of Patos, which is situated in the inland of Paraíba, in the period of time between 1923 and 1995. Ana1ysinghow, starting from a barbarous murder of a child, a religiousimaginaryhas been built,which legitimizedthe "Girl Francisca" as being the Saint of the "Cruz da Menina". Realizing how the "arts of doing" are produced, made suitable and punctuated by the speeches in the elaboration and institutionalization of the belief, the aspects considered being the death of the "Girl Francisca" in 1923 and its linguistic and documentary elaboration starting fiom the opening of a criminal inquisition, the building of the chapel in 1929, the opening of the criminal proceedings in 1932 and the building of religious touristic facilities around the chapel in 1993, and discussing how these aspects are set off and resignified by the construction of a social memory / Mestrado / Mestre em História
