Previous issue date: 2012-05-04 / The study on memoir writings in the novel Os cus de Judas by the Portuguese author António Lobo Antunes, published in 1979, is inserted in a search for understanding the constitution of the subject in the contemporary society. In this novel, a physician reports his memoirs with his own life experience in the Portuguese army, fighting in the battle fields as its central axis. The narrator refers the participation in the colonial war as agony learning . However, the learning was not efficient as the initiation expected by the family, but as a metamorphose which leads the narrator to think on the conceptions which were taken as truth in his life so far. This agony whose learning was initiated by the narrator of Os cus de Judas during the war is also learned by the human being in other battles imposed by the contemporary society, in which the fixed identities pressed in the belonging to safety and comfort promoting groups have been shattered. Thus, reconfiguration of the national identity works in reconfiguring the individual identity, in the agony search for configuring one answer to the question: Who am I? therefore, this narrator and the work of Zygmunt Bauman on social conditions during that time was called by him net modernity , in addition of the critical rich appreciation of the author and the of the work. / O estudo da escrita da memória no romance Os cus de Judas, do português António Lobo Antunes, publicado em 1979, insere-se numa busca de compreensão da constituição do sujeito na sociedade contemporânea. No romance estudado, um médico relata suas memórias tendo como eixo central a própria vivência nos campos de batalha no exército português. O narrador se refere à participação na Guerra Colonial como uma aprendizagem da agonia . No entanto, a aprendizagem não se efetiva como a iniciação esperada pela família, mas como uma metamorfose que leva o narrador a questionar as concepções até então tomadas como verdade em sua vida. A agonia cuja aprendizagem foi iniciada pelo narrador de Os cus de Judas na Guerra é também aprendida pelo ser humano em outras batalhas impostas pela sociedade contemporânea, em que as identidades fixas calcadas no pertencimento a coletividades promotoras de segurança e conforto estão sendo estilhaçadas. Assim, a reconfiguração da identidade nacional se desdobra na reconfiguração da identidade individual, na busca agônica pela configuração de uma resposta à pergunta: Quem sou eu? . Nesse sentido, este trabalho se propõe a estudar como é configurada a identidade do narrador-protagonista no romance contemporâneo português Os cus de Judas, apoiando-se, especialmente, nas teorizações de Paul Ricoeur acerca da escrita da memória, de Walter Benjamin sobre o narrador e de Zygmunt Bauman a respeito das condições sociais desta era chamada por ele de modernidade líquida , além da apreciação da fortuna crítica do autor e da obra.
