Previous issue date: 2002 / Resumo: A epilepsia constitui um problema médico-social de alta relevânci_ atingindo pessoas em todo o mundo. Entretanto os preconceitos e reações estigmatizantes por parte da família e da sociedade, constituem ainda empecilho para que os epiléticos possam exercer seus direitos humanos básicos, enfim, viver com qualidade. Buscou-se nesse estudo, verificar o impacto da epilepsia na vida de crianças e adolescentes epiléticos, através da abordagem de diversos fatores relacionados ao distúrbio, crenças, estigmas, interação com a família, ajustamento social, comportamentos, emoções, o lazer e a escola enfocando a qualidade da interação do aluno epilético com a Educação Física. Para tanto, o trabalho envolveu 40 crianças e adolescentes epiléticos de 10 a 16 anos associados a Associação de Epilepsia do Sudeste Goiano, seus familiares (40 pais ou mães) e 15 professores de Educação Física aos quais foram aplicados os respectivos questionários. Utilizou-se também de entrevistas com 2 médicos neurologistas. Tendo em vista os objetivos desse estudo, constatou-se que a desinformação e a incompreensão da epilepsia por parte dos pais e professores de Educação Física inviabilizam ou limitam oportunidades que favoreçam o desenvolvimento integral do epilético, o qual manifesta dificuldades ou alterações de ordem biopsicossociais, que interferem no processo de construção de sua identidade e das suas relações com o mundo e consigo mesmos. Necessário se faz que os pais, professores e os próprios epiléticos compreendam e tenham uma visão mais otimista frente a epilepsia e a vida, banindo estereótipos e criando atitudes favoráveis a uma boa adaptação no ambiente familiar, social e escolar / Abstract: The epilepsy is a health-social problem of high relevance, reaching people all over the world. However, the prejudices and reactions stigmatizing from the family and the society still make difficult for the epileptics to exercise their basic human rights, and finally live with quality. It was searched in this study, verify the impact of the epilepsy in the children and adolescent epileptics' life, through the approach of several factors related to the disturbance, faiths, stigmas, interaction with the family, social adjustment, behaviors, emotions, leisure and school, focuzing the quality of the interaction of the epileptic with the Physical Education, all decisive in the accomplishment expectations or personal and social acting, essential to a good life quality. This work involved 40 epileptic children and adolescents from 10 to 16, members of the "Associação de Epilepsia do Sudeste Goiano", their relatives (40 parents) and 15 Physical Education Teachers, who answered the respective questionnaires. Interviews with 2 neurologists were also helped. After checking the objectives on the case, it was verified that the noninformation and the incomprehension of the epilepsy by the parents and Physical Education Teachers, made unfeasible or limit opportunities that favor the whole epileptic development, which manifests difficulties or biopsycossocial order alterations, that interfere in the process of construction ofthe identity and relationships with the world and themselves. It's necessary that the parents, teachers and the own epileptics, understand and have a more optimistic view towards epilepsy and life, banishing stereotypes and creating favorable attitudes to a good adaptation in the family, social and school atmosphere / Mestrado / Atividade Fisica / Mestre em Educação Física
