Previous issue date: 2001 / Resumo: Esta tese discute algumas questões sobre a formação do campo da Arte de Cuidar, do ponto de vista de uma nativa do campo, nele socializada, como uma enfermeira profissional. Procuro localizar e explicitar de onde estou falando, discutir a minha participação no campo da enfermagem e a metodologia utilizada para realizá-lo. Sem pretender estabelecer linearidade histórica, procuro desvelar as descontinuidades que compuseram a conformação do campo. Caminho desde a vigência do que chamei "paradigma mágico-religioso", em que as idéias hegemônicas eram as religiosas, até o advento das idéias científicas mais voltadas para o corpo, aparecendo como um complexo que denominamos "paradigma biológico-cientificista", na segunda metade do século XIX. O trabalho foi concebido em três capítulos, cada um com uma subdivisão pertinente. No primeiro, trato da Arte de Cuidar na Europa, a partir dos tipos surgidos registrados pela História, como a mulher sábia, a bruxa, a irmã de caridade, a enfermeira profana, chegando a Florence Nightingale, como o mito de origem da enfermagem moderna. Aqui busco o elo da tradição e os nexos sociais entre a Arte de Cuidar e a mulher da Era vitoriana na Inglaterra. O saber da mulher como arte de cuidar da vida, elaborado em tomo da fecundação da terra e das mulheres e orientado pelo eixo Vida/Morte, foi transformado em outros saberes masculinos em tomo do fazer recuar a morte e diminuir o sofrimento. Essa nova situação orientava-se pelo eixo Saúde/Doença. Focalizo Nightingale, nos meados do século XIX, sistematizando o campo, dando origem à enfermeira profissional. No segundo capítulo, analiso a luta das enfermeiras americanas pela legalização do campo com a realização de vários seminários, várias conferências e vários relatórios que vão marcar em definitivo a profissão, com a criação de instrumentos de divulgação, exportam-nos para o mundo, em especial para a América Latina, sua área de influência. As fundações americanas, era especial a Fundação Rockefeller, têm papel fundamental nesse processo, tanto com recursos financeiros como com recursos humanos. No terceiro capítulo, estudo a formação do campo da Arte de Cuidar no Brasil, com a criação da Escola Anna Nery. A análise feita é do tipo compreensiva, partindo do pensamento do outro, sem rotulá-lo e sem enquadrá-lo em esquemas teóricos preconcebidos. Faço análise dos ritos e dos mitos construídos durante a formação do campo, vindos tanto das áreas religiosas (católica e protestante), quanto da guerra que teve papel fundamental. As origens da Arte de Cuidar prendem-se, como disse, ao fato de conservar a vida (mulheres) e ao fato de fazer recuar a morte e o sofrimento (homens). Essas duas vertentes se reorganizaram dando origem ao campo profissional / Abstract: This work discusses some issues concerning the formation of the field of the Art of Caring, from the point of view of a native in this very field, who was socialized in it as a professional nurse. I aim to set and explain where I am talking from, as well as my participation in the nursing field and the methodology used to do so. Far from intending to establish a historic linearity, I try to disclose the discontinuation which compound the structure of this field. I have embraced since the emergence of what we call a magical-religious paradigm -in which the hegemonic ideas were the religious ones - until the advent of scientific ideas more concerned with the body, which have arisen as a complex called biological-scientific paradigm, in the second half of the nineteenth century. This work was conceived in three chapters, each one with a pertinent subdivision. On the first one, I have approached the Art of Caring in Europe from the types who arose and were registered in History, such as the wise woman, the witch, the charity sister and the profane nurse, until coming to Florence Nightingale, as the myth of origin of the modem nursing. Herein I search for the chains of tradition as well as the social nexus between the Art of Caring and the woman from the Victorian age in England. Woman's wisdom viewed as the art of caring of life, elaborated around the fecundation of the land and of the women and oriented by the Life/Death axis was transformed into another masculine wisdom - concerning retreating from death and lessening the suffering. This new situation was oriented by another axis, that is: Health/Illness. I have focused on Nightingale, who systematized this field in the mid-nineteenth century and gave origin to the professional nurse. On the second chapter, I have analyzed the struggle of the American nurses for the legalization of the nursing field, by holding many seminars, conferences and making reports which would mark definitely the profession, through the creation of instruments of promotion and exporting them to the world -specially to Latin America, its area of influence. The American foundations - The Rockefeller Foundation in particular - played a fundamental role in this process, as much through financial resources as through human ones. On the third chapter I have studied the formation of the field of the Art of Caring in Brazil, through the creation of Ana Nery School (Escola Ana Nery). The analysis made is of the comprehension kind, having as its starting point the thought of the other, without labeling nor framing them into pre-conceived theoretical schemes. I have analyzed the rites and myths built during the formation of the field, that came both from religious areas (catholic and protestant) and from the war - which played an essential role. The origins of the Art of Caring are linked, as I said, to the fact of keeping life by the women and of retreating from death and suffering by men.
