The problem is not death, but the fact that the subject dies. This work-paper is proposed to study the experience from the perspective of palliative care, in order to understand how the subject experience death and dying. It was carried out an incursion in a ethnographic palliative care service, allowing on-the-spot experience of dealing daily with the approaching death and the discussion about death and dying from the subject (professionals, patients and family members) and their singularities in this particular wait time-not without before, resume a historical perspective of this theme. Each season there is a way to go and a look into the death. The speech of the palliative care produces a way to die that meets the demands of that time, although it is an attempt to escape the neoliberal, rationality is the model of the scientific thinking and the tecnociências that allows your emergency. As a care model inserted in the biomedical field has a general version of how to deal with the illness or death, however the study showed that when the subject is confronted with the critical facts of life emerges your uniqueness. / A morte é o que há de mais individualizador e ao mesmo tempo de mais igualitário na existência humana. O problema não é a morte, mas o fato de que o sujeito morre. Este trabalho se propôs a estudar a experiência da perspectiva dos Cuidados Paliativos, de modo a compreender como os sujeitos vivenciam a morte e o morrer. Para tanto, foi realizado uma incursão etnográfica num serviço de Cuidados Paliativos, o que possibilitou a vivência in loco do lidar cotidiano com a morte que se aproxima e a discussão sobre a morte e o morrer a partir dos sujeitos (profissionais, pacientes e familiares) e suas singularidades nesse tempo de espera particular – não sem, antes, retomar uma perspectiva histórica dessa temática. Em cada época há uma forma de morrer e um olhar sobre a morte. O discurso dos Cuidados Paliativos produz um jeito de morrer que atende as demandas desse tempo, embora seja uma tentativa de escapar da racionalidade neoliberal, é o modelo do pensamento científico e das tecnociências que permite a sua emergência. Como um modelo assistencial inserido no campo biomédico tem uma versão generalista de como lidar com a doença ou morte, no entanto o estudo evidenciou que quando o sujeito é confrontado com os fatos cruciais da vida emerge a sua singularidade.
