Previous issue date: 2017-03-28 / This work aims to contribute to discussions and analyzes about volunteering, especially about the reasons that lead people to engage in activities and volunteer groups. After a review of the available approaches in researches and academic works, it was possible to put a phenomenological lens on the subject. With this, it was tried to reveal how are constructed, throughout the biography, the reasons why the engagement to the volunteer. Through the biographical narrative methodology proposed by Fritz Sch?tze from the theoretical presuppositions of Alfred Sch?tz's phenomenology and systematized by Grabriele Rosenthal, five interviews were conducted with volunteers who works continuously and periodically in health institutions. To better define the reconstruction of the life narrated, we opted for the in-depth analysis of the life story narrated by the volunteer Lucas. After passing through the steps of analysis, it was possible to arrive at the relevance in Lucas' biography of values such as solidarity - strongly linked to family relationships and childhood experiences. In a moment of personal crisis, the interviewee opted for volunteering. Mapping Lucas' motivations - from the baggage of knowledge founded in the literature review and previous interviews - makes an effective contribution to a better understanding of the factors that involve and motivate the volunteer in his work. / O presente trabalho tem o objetivo de contribuir com as discuss?es e an?lises sobre o voluntariado, especialmente a respeito das raz?es que levam pessoas ao engajamento nas atividades e em grupos de voluntariado. Ap?s uma revis?o das abordagens sobre o tema dispon?veis em pesquisas e trabalhos acad?micos, foi poss?vel colocar uma lente fenomenol?gica sobre o assunto. Com isso, buscou-se revelar como s?o constru?dos, ao longo da biografia, os motivos por que do engajamento ao voluntariado. Por meio da metodologia de narrativa biogr?fica proposta por Fritz Sch?tze a partir dos pressupostos te?ricos da fenomenologia de Alfred Sch?tz e sistematizada por Grabriele Rosenthal, foram realizadas cinco entrevistas com volunt?rios que atuam de forma cont?nua e peri?dica em institui??es de sa?de. Para melhor delimitar a reconstru??o da vida narrada, optou-se pela an?lise aprofundada da hist?ria de vida narrada pelo volunt?rio Lucas. Ao percorrer os passos da an?lise, foi poss?vel chegar ? relev?ncia, na biografia de Lucas, de valores como a solidariedade ? fortemente ligado ?s rela??es familiares e ?s experi?ncias da inf?ncia. Em um momento de crise pessoal, o entrevistado opta pelo engajamento em atividades de voluntariado. Mapear as motiva??es de Lucas ? a partir da bagagem de conhecimento encontrada na revis?o da literatura e nas entrevistas anteriores ? possibilitou uma contribui??o efetiva para um melhor entendimento dos fatores que envolvem e motivam o volunt?rio em seu trabalho.
