"Jag vill inte att det blir en envägskommunikation" : En kvalitativ studie om socialsekreterares uppfattning av kommunikation med klienter i socialtjänsten

This study examines social workers’ experiences of communication, in the meeting with clients. The study uses a qualitative research method with an inductive approach and a semi-structured interview method has been used for the collection of data. For the analysis of the results and throughout the study, communication theory has been used. The study’s results have shown that pedagogy has an important function in communication and that the connection between client and social worker can play a significant role in a well-functioning communication. The results also indicate that people who speak Swedish as a second language are more vulnerable than others when they communicate with social workers. This is partly because of a general lack of interpreters, and partly because the interpreters often lack the appropriate knowledge of the official language used by the social workers. According to the results of the study, higher demands on the quality of the interpreters as well as the use of pedagogical aids can be important components in achieving the social services' goal of being accessible to all.
