Genom praktiska och teoretiska studier på studie- och yrkesvägledarprogrammet har vi kunnat se en ökning av de elever som gör ett omval efter ett år på gymnasiet. Syftet med undersökningen var att se bidragande orsaker till att ett eventuellt omval sker. En kvalitativ studie har gjorts genom intervjuer med fem elever som gått ett år på sitt omvalda gymnasieprogram. Detta resultat har ställts i relation till Linda. S Gottfredsons teori kring begreppen begränsningar och kompromisser i studievalet samt SCCT-teorin där fokus ligger på självskattning. Hypotesen innan forskningen påbörjades var att eleverna har dålig självinsikt och svårigheter att se sina styrkor och svagheter och därmed svårt att matcha sig själv med ett specifikt gymnasieprogram. Att se sina egna resurser kan genom professionell vägledning tydliggöras och få eleven att bli mer medveten om sig själv. Bristande samverkan med vidare studier och arbetsliv är också en bidragande variabel till att omvalen tenderar att öka. Resultatet visar att vår hypotes stämde in men även att eleverna är starkt påverkbara och lyssnade mycket på omgivningen inför sitt gymnasieval. Majoriteten av eleverna medger också att de själva borde ha varit mer aktiva i sin valprocess och intresserat sig mer för informationskvällar och ”öppet hus” om de utbildningar de funderade på. Vi kan genom detta dra slutsatsen att denna valprocess borde påbörjas under första året på högstadiet för att förbereda eleverna till ett väl underbyggt val. För att kunna genomföra ett professionellt vägledningsarbete bör vägledaren ha god kunskap om de olika utbildningsalternativen och på ett objektivt kritiskt sätt informera eleverna. Denna slutsats kan dras eftersom många av eleverna uttryckte en förvirring över det omfattande utbud som finns och svårigheterna att kritiskt granska detta. Through practical and theoretical studies during our education we have seen an increase of students who makes a re-election after one year at the upper secondary school. The purpose with this survey was an atempt to see causes why a re-election takes place. A qualitative survey has been done by interviewing five students which have all make a re-election. The result of the interviews has been compared to Gottfredsons theory and the conceptions she uses; limit and compromise in the choice of education and also the Social cognitive theory where focus lies in how the individual makes an appraisal of their own abilities. The hypothesis before the study began was that the student has got a bad insight in their own strength and weakness which results in a difficulty to match themselves with a specific direction in further education. Through professional guidance these qualities can be illustrated and make the student aware of him or herselves. Bad cooperation with further education and different employments is also a cause to the re-elections. The final results of this study showed that our hypothesis agree but also that the students where strongly influenced by their surroundings when they choosed for upper secondary school. The majority of the students who where interviewed admit that they should have been more active in their election and that they should have been more interested in available information about the alternatives. Through that result we can come to a certain conclusion: the process of preparing the students to choose should begin earlier, perhaps in the start of 7th grade, to make sure that the students will consider their possibilities. To implement a professional guidance the student counsellor should have knowledge about the alternativies and inform the students in a objective and critical way. We came to this conclusion because the students in the survey expressed a feeling of confusion over the existing range of different educations and the difficulities in knowing what is accurate and objectiv information.
