The present study aim to analisy, based on metodology of life's histories, the process of my formation like environmental educator, had research's material the ways, steps of life's author, so can understand the increase and the learnings performed at every step. Supported by researchers on life's narratives and aware of your value in training processes, while possibility of self knowledge “self toward ” that provides to researcher a self discovery and about yourself.I found support in author like Josso (2004), Nóvoa (1988), Dias (2002), that discuss a work relevant with this metodology of research-formation in knowledge production sense from individual experiences . But it reveals characteristics of all social, political, economic and cultural context where is the narration subject. Thus it is the research metodology that structure in life's reflection, about actions and subject's options in some situations, finding experienced trajectories, clues to form comprehension as subject in the world . Besides, in colaboration sense with this study presented I show the ideas of Freire (2000; 2002 a, b, c; 2007; 2008), that he didn't dedicate to sudy narratives like research metodology, but understands that the subjects learning after self history. Then, Freire approaches of studied authors for this background study in perspective of life's narratives. The reflection research are consequences of study around this narratives and their extract like accquired learning by my existence.and my social insertion in several places that I worked and work. So it is a self biography study that found past experiences , pointers that explain the way I am and my realationship with the world, men and women. The result's work has a relevant faith of others teachers appropriate this metodology from research-formation as propose to deep comprehension about social pratices, discovery in faith history, values, conceptions ideas, principles that is the form in the world.

The cultural identities in post-conflict countries where a constant layer of a process among all ethnic groups within the country to reaffirm its position in the formation of the nation. The identities of an ethnic group in the post-conflict always buy some proportions increasing through nuances in contemporary fields such as subject in the multiple representations of post-conflict. This dissertation is to address these propellers proactive in ethnic groups that represent the identities of ethnic groups in East Timor after independence in twenty of May two thousand and two. To cut this research, the subjects who were involved in this interview are the entities Timorese living in Brazil for the training process of the study in two Federal Universities in Brazil: Universidade Federal do Cearà (UFC) and Universidade Federal de GoiÃnia (UFG). In this sense, the goal is to draw a parallel between the Timorese authorities, of different ethnic groups that exist in the country that make the events of ethnic conflict in the country involving several entities of the ethnic groups after independence

Um professor em dois mundos: a viagem do professor Luiz Augusto dos Reis à Europa (1891) / A Professor in two worlds: a trip of Professor Luiz Augusto dos Reis to Europe (1891).

Inára de Almeida Garcia Pinto 31 October 2011 (has links)
This thesis exams the report that Professor Luiz Augusto dos Reis produced during his trip started in 1891, from the Federal District to Europe, including Portugal, Spain, France, and Belgium. His objective was to investigate the situation of public education in regions described as civilized worlds. Upon the analysis of the report as a source and object, I highlight the precarious conditions of travels such as the one performed by the Professor, the general aspects considered by the Professor, the path and considerations that he built regarding school and school culture, both Brazilian and International, which he observed, analyzed and judged during his routine of visits to public schools. Such undertaking allowed me to build a sort of mapping of the trip, which is important not only for presenting the elements of the school culture in Brazil and abroad, which brings to surface questions related to the schooling process in the two worlds, but also for bringing light to historical connections, approximations and separations of the pedagogical models, particularly the school furnishings, the educational projects and the pedagogical manuals in Portugal and Brazil. With this investment, this thesis reinforced the idea of circulation of cultural models in the large movement of educational modernization and internalization, which took place in the last decades of the XIX century.

Reverberações do debate decadência/atraso em Portugal e no Brasil em fins dos oitocentos: histórias conectadas / Reverberations of the debate decay/delay in Portugal and Brazil in the late nineteenth century: stories connected

Roni Cleber Dias de Menezes 24 May 2011 (has links)
The thesis presented here intends to investigate the connections and movement involving individuals and cultural objects between Portugal and Brazil during the last three decades of the nineteenth century and early twentieth century, within the discursive production and intervention of public intellectuals and Brazilian Portuguese committed to creating / enabling alternatives to overcome the stages of decay and delay experienced, respectively, according to these same men of knowledge, the two Portuguese speaking countries, in relation especially to the nations of northern Europe. The work is structured through the capture of three dimensions of the movements mentioned above, namely the drafting of speeches that pointed to the entrance into modernity, a complex balance between the search / evocation of the spirit and values of genuine national and renovation of fields cultural, intellectual and mental through the narrowing of contact with the philosophies of history and scientific theories produced in Europe from beyond the Pyrenees, the spread of the method of teaching reading created by the portuguese poet João de Deus embodied in the book Cartilha Maternal ou Arte de Leitura by Portugal, Brazil and portuguese colonial possessions in Africa. Makes for balancing the scope of the plan for dissemination of pedagogic work of João de Deus its appropriations on brazilian soil adding to the sensitivity analysis to other aspects of the program, as the question of possible commercial interest conveyed by the advertising materials for the method of teaching of João de Deus and the work of intellection about the itineraries of António Zeferino Cândido, portuguese former mathematics professor at the University of Coimbra and the first promoter of the method of reading João de Deus in Brazil, an activity that includes beyond the advertisement of the teaching method conducted in Brazil, also a portuguese teacher performance and loci in different institutions of sociability of whom took part in Brazil on over twenty years he remained in the country, and also concerning Zeferino Cândido, the completion of an exegesis of his major writings, seeking to ascertain how the publisher there\'s method portrays the debate around the themes of decadence and backwardness and formulates responses which, in view of the requirements for translation, assimilation and cultural blend to it imposed by living in the capital of the Brazilian empire.

Geographical projections : lantern-slides and the making of geographical knowledge at the Royal Geographical Society c.1885-1924

Hayes, Emily Jane Eleanor Rhydderch January 2016 (has links)
This thesis is about the mobilities of geographical knowledge in the material form of lantern-slides and the forces exerted on these by technological and human factors. Owing to its concern with matter, human- and non-human, and its circulation, the thesis addresses the physics of geographical knowledge. The chapters below investigate the Royal Geographical Society’s (RGS) ongoing tradition of telling stories of science and exploration through words, objects and pictures in the final quarter of the nineteenth century and as geography professionalized and geographical science developed. These processes occurred within the context of a plethora of technological innovations, including the combination of the older medium of the magic lantern and photographic lantern-slides, integral to a wide range of entertainment, scientific and educational performances across Britain. In 1886 the RGS began to engage with the magic lantern. Via this technology and the interactive lecture performances in which it featured, I argue that the Society embraced the medium of photography, thereby engendering transformations in methods of knowledge making and to the RGS collections. I study how these transformations influenced the discipline of Geography as it was re-established at the University of Oxford in 1887. I demonstrate the evolution of the RGS’s Evening, Technical and Young Persons’ lectures, their contingent lantern-slide practices and, consequently, how these moulded, and were moulded by, the RGS Fellowship between c. 1885 and 1924. The chapters below explore how these innovations in visual technologies and practices arose, how they circulated knowledge and their effect on geographies of geographical knowledge making. By harnessing the lantern the RGS attracted an expanding and diversifying audience demographic. The thesis demonstrates the interactive nature of RGS lantern-slide lectures and audiences' important role in shaping the Society’s practices and geographical knowledge. The chapters below argue that it was via the use of the lantern that geography was disseminated to new places. The thesis therefore brings additional perspectives and dimensions to understandings of the circulation of geographical knowledge.

In this work we studied muscovite as a thermocronometer. Muscovite have low amount of uranium, below 5 parts per million. Because of that it is impractical to be used as thermocronometer. Thus irradiating it with swift heavy ions of $ ^ {238} U $, moderated by aluminum foil (resulting in different energies) and with different angles of incidence is one way to analyze the behavior of muscovite ion tracks. These tracks can act like channels to the acid, chemical etching, revealing more fossil traces. We carry out experimental planning using D-optimal algorithm do thermal treatments at different times and temperatures in order anneal muscovite tracks. We measured the length of the ion tracks created with the following dependencies: ion mass, annealing time and temperature, impact energy and angle of incidence. The incidence of energy parameters, angle of incidence and ion characteristics are not considered in any of the models available in the literature. Therefore, we have developed a new empirical model for the kinetics of annealing: $l = l_0 + a*energia - e^{\left(\frac{temperatura}{b + c*log(tempo)}\right)}$, $l$ annealed fission track length and $l_0$ fission track length and the constants $a$, $b$ and $c$ adjusted from the experimental data . The constants $a$ and $L_0$ are related to the angle of incidence, type of ion and energy. This model, besides having fewer parameters, with a simple modification, $\frac{L}{L_0} = 1 + A.e^{\frac{T}{b}},\ b = B+C.ln(t)$ may also be applied to confined fission tracks. The adjusted model , with only 3 parameters, $A$, $B$ and $C$, enables thermal analysis in any mineral that has experimental data. We show fitting for the following minerals: apatite, zircon, epidote and muscovite. From the annealed ion tracks we fit the data to get all parameters and obtained results consistent with previous work. One was that we predict that \citeauthor{Bigazzi1967}, possibly, used surface samples with 303 K. With this result, we validate that ions tracks can generate good results using annealing laboratory data extrapolated to geological time. Finally, we developed an application with the following features: automatic model fitting to experimental data, simulation of thermal index (closure temperature and partial annealing) independent of the mineral and the reconstruction of thermal histories for multiple minerals from geological. In addition to these features, the application has web interface and can be used on any platform and operating system. Finally, the most significant results of this work were: new experimental annealing data of ion tracks in muscovite, new empirical model to increase the knowledge of the ion or fission tracks annealing kinetics and an application for data processing, fit and simulation of thermal index and thermal histories reconstruction / Mestrado / Física / Mestre em Física

Generational differences in South African women’s leadership approach : a life history investigation

Cammarata, Samantha 18 July 2013 (has links)
Recent literature shows an increased interest in generational differences among the workforce, particularly in Western societies. This has coincided with a focus on the role of women as successful leaders in the workplace. Despite this, the exploration and understanding of generational differences amongst female leaders in organisations has received limited attention, particularly in the South African context. The main purpose of the study was therefore to explore whether generational differences among women have an influence on how they approach leadership roles in a South African context. The study also sought to examine whether there are differences in gender identity across the generations as a result of socialisation. The study adopted a qualitative, life histories methodological approach to address the research purposes. Semi structured interviews were conducted with nine South African women in leadership positions from both the Baby Boomer and Generation X generational cohorts. The two generational cohorts were selected as they make up the majority of the current workforce while also being more likely, due to their age, of occupying leadership positions. The interviews were recorded and transcribed, and were imported into Atlas.ti for data analysis. The findings indicated that mothers played a dominant role in the socialisation of women, while fathers were significantly less present in the women’s stories. In terms of the effect of socialisation on career and leadership expectations, Baby Boomers were taught that they should be ‘stay-at-home-mothers’ and after having raised their children could then begin their careers. Generation X believed that they could be career women just as easily as ‘stay-at-home-mothers’. Despite both generations favouring a transformational approach to leadership, each generation differed in the way it practiced leadership. Baby Boomers led in a shared, structured and empowering manner, whereas Generation Xs focused on being attentive, unlocking potential, identifying talents of followers, and assisting in the growth and development of followers within their leadership approach. / Dissertation (MCom)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / Human Resource Management / unrestricted

The War That Does Not Leave Us: Memory of the American Civil War and the Photographs of Alexander Gardner

White, Katie Janae 16 June 2014 (has links) (PDF)
In July of 1863 the photographs A Harvest of Death, Field Where General Reynolds Fell, A Sharpshooter's Last Sleep, and The Home of a Rebel Sharpshooter were taken after the battle at Gettysburg by a team of photographers led by Alexander Gardner. In the decades that followed these images of the dead of the battlefield became some of the most iconic representations of the American Civil War. Today, Gardner's Gettysburg photographs can be found in almost every contemporary history text, documentary, or collection of images from the war, yet their journey to this iconic status has been little discussed. The goal of this thesis is to expand the general understanding of these Civil War photographs and their legacy by considering their use beyond the early 1860s. Although part of a larger scope of influence, the discussion of the photographs presented here will focus particularly on the years between 1894 and 1911. Between those years they were made available to the public through large photographic histories and other history texts as well. The aim of these texts, which framed and manipulated Gardner's images, were to disseminate a propagandistic history of the war in a way that outlined it as a nationally unifying experience, rather than one of division. These texts mark the beginning of the influence the Gettysburg photographs would have on American memory of the war. Within these books the four photographs became part of a larger effort to reconnect with the past and shape the war into a source for a unified American identity.
