[pt] POLICULTURA NO MUNICÍPIO DE NOVA FRIBURGO, RJ: PROCESSO DE EVOLUÇÃO E RELAÇÕES SOCIEDADE-NATUREZA / [en] POLYCULTURE IN NOVA FRIBURGO, RJ: EVOLUTION PROCESS AND NATURE-SOCIETY RELATIONS

CONRADO CHERMUT STROLIGO 26 October 2016 (has links)
[en] As noted in the history of Nova Friburgo-RJ since it s creation through the treaty between Dom João VI and the Swiss businessman Nicholas Gachet in 1818 for the implementation of the colony, the food production regarding the supplying Rio de Janeiro city s demand was prescribed. However, after the arrival of the first Swiss immigrants in 1819, due to problems of cultural adaptation, economic and environmental, the initial objectives of the colony were replaced by the need for survival of the settlers, which favored the cultural miscegenation between them and Portuguese s, indigenous and afroamericans, favoring the formation of a polycultural character of agriculture. During nearly two centuries of existence, the city witnessed the production of diversified food types in the so-called rural areas and in its urban center, where there are still present crops with partial subsistence purposes in productive backyards, notwithstanding they are pulverized in Nova Friburgo s landscape. In this work we will seek to analise the common characteristics between the crops of the enquired people, four of those living in the urban district and two in rural districts of Nova Friburgo, in order to analyze its relationship with the documented historical process, of polycultural agriculture subsistence emergence in the city. All managements have biodiverse character and polycultural in food production without the use of fire for fertilizing the soil neither of agrochemicals. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate the relationship of these productive areas, with agricultural practices historically evidenced in the municipality in order to verify the potential existence of a cultural link between the cases of the past and present. It is in this context between the present and the past, the new and the old, the internal and the external that the present research is proposed.

The study evaluated the socioeconomics effects of the Program in the Angico and Lagoa da Serra Farms mortgager families’ life conditions improvement. The methodology adopted for the results concretion was based on qualitative and quantitative bibliographical, documentary and field researches. The results show the profile of those affected by the PNCF, compatible with the public established as a target for the program, whose main occupation revolves around agribusiness. That has favored the familiar hand use in the activities developed in those properties, identifying relative improvements in the mortgagers’ life conditions in relation to the habitation, health, alimentary security, education, durable goods acquisition and income, after the purchase of the land. It evidenced the technique assistance absence and lack of integration between the public services rendering institutions; that both property area was below of 1 family agricultural module, what perhaps makes it difficult the production increase in relation to the existing animals number; and the slowness of reaching other public politics accomplishment that, of certain form, are integrated to the National Program of Agrarian Credit.

Microbiological and molecular biological analysis of oil contaminated marine sediments : 30 years after the spill

AlRoumi, Dina K. January 2003 (has links)
In 1970 the Arrow oil spill off Cape Breton contaminated 305 kilometres of shoreline. Aerial and land surveys have demonstrated that natural weathering has occurred throughout this period, but it was relatively slow, especially in sheltered areas like Black Duck Cove lagoon. This study analyzed the microbial hydrocarbon degradation potential in the lagoon sediments using direct and culture-based techniques. Mineralization of hydrocarbon substrates (hexadecane, octacosane and naphthalene) indicated the presence of an active degradative microbial community, however, genes from known bacterial hydrocarbon degradation pathways (alkB, ndoB, phnAc) were not detected by direct extraction of sediment DNA and PCR amplification. Sediment enrichment cultures had increased mineralization rates for naphthalene and hexadecane, and a hexadecane-degrading pure culture, Rhodococcus sp. BDC14, with a typical alkB gene was isolated. PCR analysis of total community DNA extracted directly from the enrichments indicated the presence of the Alcanivorax borkumensis alkB1 genotype. The results demonstrated that there were notable differences between culture-based and direct molecular analytical techniques in characterizing the contaminated sediments.

Genotoxicity of methylmercury in North American river otters (Lutra canadensis)

Loupelle, Christianne January 2004 (has links)
Methylmercury (MeHg) is the most toxic form of Hg to wildlife, partly because of its ability to biomagnify through the food chain. Previous studies have shown that river otter (Lutra canadensis) is particularly susceptible to increased exposure and body burdens of MeHg due to the piscivorous nature of its diet. The objectives of this study were to attempt to establish a relationship between MeHg concentrations in otter tissues and DNA fragmentation using single cell electrophoresis (comet assay) as well as evaluate the effectiveness of the comet assay as a tool in genotoxicity assessment in field samples. Results of preliminary experiments indicate that both time and storage temperature markedly influence the rate of spontaneous DNA degradation. Increased numbers of freeze/thaw cycling also appear to have a negative effect on DNA integrity. In addition, a cell culture experiment was set up to measure the effects of differing levels of MeHg on a neuroblastoma cell line.

This dissertation aimed to follow the effects that Projovem Adolescente in the city of Venda Nova do Imigrante-ES has produced in the lives of young people that integrate the service and how they have appropriated this space. What are the interferences and the resonances produced in the course of life of this young people participating the Projovem Adolescente? The research methodology included reading documents related to national social welfare policy, CRAS data of the municipality about Projovem Adolescente and conversations with six young people who participated in the first collective of the service in the period 2010/2011. Starting from the contribution of authors like Michel Foucault, we trace an analysis in order to discuss the interference of biopower in policies to youth, the historical-cultural crossings present in the city, pointing the resistances and escapes of young people to the attempts of totalizing captures their lives. All the path of this research was conducted by a methodological strategy in which these young people speak for themselves, deconstructing hegemonic guardianship relations and existential imprisonment that keep focusing on youth.
