The purpose of this study was to examine the bilateral electrical activity of the rectus abdominis and external oblique muscles and the measurement of maximum Inspiratory Pressure (Plmáx) and maximum Expiratory Pressure (PEmáx), before and after a respiratory training program, utilizing the Positive Expiratory Airway Pressure (EPAP). Fourteen subjects (3 men and 11 women) between 20 and 29 years old (X=22,9; DP=2,9), clinically normal participated in this study. The training program was accomplished in 4 weeks, 5 days a week, during 15 minutes a day with a 1° em of H20 respiratory resistance applied to the face mask. The electrical register of the rectus abdominis and exte rn ai oblique muscles was obtained before and after the training by a Signal Conditioner Device of the16 channels (L YNX) and received by active, simple differential surface electrodes (DELSYS, Inc.). The signal was quantified in Root Mean Square (RMS), expressed in microvolts and normalized as the Proof of Manual Muscular Function, Degree 5, of the rectus and oblique muscle percentage. The Plmáx and PEmáx measurements were obtained by an operational pause of + 300 and - 300 em H20 manuvacuometer: the Plmáx was accomplished near to the Residual Volume and the PEmáx was obtained near to the Total Pulmonary Capacity. The statistic methods used were the variance analysis (ANOVA) and multivariance analysis (MANOVA), both with p~ 0,05, the t test to matched data and the test of "Ordens Assinaladas", both with (p~ 0,01). The results showed that the eletrical activity of the right and left external oblique muscle was significantly great (p= 0,0059 and p= 0,0017, respectively) before the training rather than afterwards. On the other hand, the differences found in the right and left rectus abdominis muscles weren't significant before and after the training "(p= 0,2337 and p= 0,0975, respectively) with the 10 em H20 expiratory resistance. Furthermore, the electrical activity,of the left and right oblique exte rn ai muscle was significantly greater before the training (p=0,001) than the electrical activity of left and right rectus abdominis muscle wa~.Nevertheless, the differences found in the electrical activity of the external oblique and rectus abdominis muscles after the training weren't significant (p=0,0608). The Student t and "Ordens Assinaladas" tests showed that both the Plmáx and PEmáx were significantly greater after the training (p= 0,0001 and 0,005). The data of this research , within the experimental conditions used, suggested that the EPAP system can be indicated as a physiotherapy resource for the functional recovery of respiratory muscles evidenced by eletromyography and by the maximum respiratory pressure measurements / Mestrado / Anatomia / Mestre em Biologia e Patologia Buco-Dental

Myth Puzzles and Stone Pieces - Modes of Citation in Hermann Broch's Die SchuldlosenWeitz, Tabea January 2017 (has links)
This dissertation examines modes of citations in Hermann Broch's work Die Schuldlosen. Focusing on the topoi of romanticism and myth, I discuss tensions between Hermann Broch's theoretical arguments and his last literary work. These tensions are an expression and formal manifestation of an auctorial attempt to implement his self-declared principles of literature, such as the creation of epistemological value, the depiction of world totality, and the creation of a new form of expression, a new language, and a new myth. In each chapter, I focus on a different topos relevant to Broch's work Die Schuldlosen. With the help of close readings and a genetic analysis of the work, I demonstrate how Broch creates the unreliable citations that serve his goals.
The first chapter illuminates the tension between Broch's theoretical works and Die Schuldlosen concerning the topos of romanticism. In a case study on stone imagery, I ask whether Broch's modes of citing romanticism can be considered a productive intermediate step to creating a new form. I show that Broch's citations can be qualified as unreliable citations, and how structural correspondences intensify their effect on the reader’s experience. The chapter ends with a discussion of the political function of Broch's citations.
The second chapter deals with Broch's concept of myth and discusses the tension between Broch's declared intention to develop a new myth and his actual use of existing myths in his works. In two case studies, I trace Broch's citations of the Faust myth and the Don Juan myth. I show that one can understand Broch's specific citations of myth as an experiment to explore how the interruption of a recurring cultural cycle would allow for a new form to develop.
