Uma vez montada no conjunto, a arruela estará sujeita a uma carga de compressão, e, devido ao efeito da memória de forma, o componente tenderá a voltar à forma original minimizando ou mesmo eliminando a perda de carga sofrida pelos parafusos usados na montagem / Abstract: Gaskets rigidly attached by bolts should keep the applied forces to each bolt until the end of its life and presenting a small force variation among the bolts of the same set. However, mechanical tests confirms that the bolt forces dispersion, in the current cylinder head fixation process, is large and the pre load loss reach 30 per cent. It means that if we apply 100 kN, we are going to have 70 kN of resultant bolt forces after few hours of running tests. This loss is caused by machining peaks accommodation in the thread contact and bolt head seating, plastic deformation (thermal and mechanical) of the involved components, bolts beating and others important aspects of bolt torque strategy. As the current system does not use flat washers between the bolt head and cylinder head bosses this project purposes to study the use of Ti-50,67at%Ni alloy, with shape memory effect (superelasticity) , for fabricating this washer. When assembled in the set, the washer will suffer a compressive load and because of the shape memory effect, the component will try to return to the original form, minimizing or even eliminating the pre load loss by bolts used to set / Mestrado / Materiais e Processos de Fabricação / Mestre em Engenharia Automobilistica

Increasingly, large metal structures are developing in this competitive market, where performance and quality of the project depend on manufacturing processes of materials, assembly, inspection and maintenance. The metal structures, especially those of type I profiles of parallel laminated tabs depend on the quality control in your bolted splices. This study aimed to analyze the bearing capacity of steel beams supported by profiles consist of type I rolled parallel flanges with two axes of symmetry, being endowed with seams with high strength bolts type ASTM A325, diameter 19 mm. Eight beams with a length of 3000 mm, two reference beams were tested. In the remaining six beams splices were made at different positions varying the amount of seams. All models have been efforts required by simple bending to failure, by analyzing the vertical displacement, torsional displacement relative and specific deformations of steel. The connections of the beams withstood the test flexural not being observed and no break on the bolts or the connecting plate, featuring breaking loads between 74% and 85% for beams of series with connections. Considerably beams with connections showed no breaking loads far below the reference beams with breaking loads between 78% and 100%. The results indicate that the beams with bolted with high strength bolts connections are sturdy and therefore can be used by designers in the field of steel structure as another option.

Non-destructive impact-testing as a method for roof bolt integrity analysis

Van Wyk, Riaan 29 June 2015 (has links)
M.Ing.(Electrical and Electronic Engineering) / The study investigated whether non-destructive impact testing, aided by supervised machine learning methods, could be used to identify improper roof bolt installations, related to insufficient grout coverage. The testing method involved the installation of four roof bolts, with varying installation properties, into a 1511 × 940 × 1350mm rock test block. Three fully grouted bolts served as examples of proper installations, with the fourth bolt grouted only up to half the length of the borehole serving as an improper roof bolt installation. The testing procedure involved placing sensors directly onto the bolts and mechanically impacting a chosen bolt while measuring the response on all the bolts. The focus was on gaining understanding of the working principle of the testing technique and how the measured response was influenced by the presence of signal-modifying factors of the physical test block geometry, such as changes in material properties, boundary changes, cracks or empty boreholes. It was shown that the roof bolt integrity testing method aided by supervised machine learning methods could identify and classify both properly and improperly grouted roof bolts on the small sample of test bolts, in a series of tests conducted at the CSIR Centre for Mining Innovation premises. The method was also shown to be robust enough to do so even in the presence of the signal-modifying factors of the physical test block geometry.

Ferrita delta em parafusos tratados termicamente: caracterização e consequências / Delta ferrite in heat treated bolts: characterization and consequences

Robson Silva Bussoloti 29 July 2014 (has links)
In the process of manufacturing bolts, a coat phosphating is required to serve as anchorage for lubricants and other friction-reducer, facilitating the cold forming process. However, before the beginning heat treatment of quenching and tempering, it is important that the alkaline bath for cleaning be efficient in order to prevent that during austenitizing, the residual phosphorus spread on the steel surface and forms a brittle phase, rich in phosphorus, called delta ferrite (&#948). In the presence of this phase, is credited with a decrease in fatigue life of the bolt and embrittlement. The intention in this work was to show the negative influence of this phase on fatigue performance, comparing the S-N curves for specimens with and without ferrite &#948. Trials have shown a reduction of up to 40% in life fatigue. The ferrite &#948 was characterized by SEM, EDS and also performed fractographic analysis.

Pevnostní a deformační analýza parametrické řady hydraulických napínáků / Strength and deformation analysis of parametric family of hydraulic stretchers

Jagoš, Jiří January 2016 (has links)
The master thesis is focused on an evaluation of a preload lost in a tappered joint. The analyzed bolts are preloaded by a hydraulic tensioner. When the tensioner is removed, the joint is established and the preload in bolt is decreased. The analysisis carried out on axisymmetry model of joint in ANSYS Workbench 15, a finite element method is implemented in that software. The evaluation of the preload lost is made for a used range of ratio of clamped length to a nominal diameter of bolt. Geometry and material assumptions are defined. Before preloading of bolts to a desired value the process of stabilization preloading must be done otherwise outlines of the analysis are not applicable. On the base of the outlines of the analysis, the method for analytical computing of the desired pretension is done. The method involves the preload lost, which occurs due to establishment of the joint. The strength assesment of the hydraulic tensioner for bolts M72x4 is done. A 3D model of the tensioner with one plane of symmetry was used. Strength criteria for maximum allowed linear-elastic stress are in accordance with ČSN EN 13 445-3.

Hydrabolt and Split Set Rock Bolt Selection Method Under the Bieniawski Rock Mass Rating for Improving Horizontal Access Support in Peruvian Mid-Scale Mining Activities

Toscano-Alor, Carlos, Castillo-Rodil, Antoni, Pehovaz-Alvarez, Humberto, Raymundo, Carlos, Mamani-Macedo, Nestor, Moguerza, Javier M. 01 January 2020 (has links)
El texto completo de este trabajo no está disponible en el Repositorio Académico UPC por restricciones de la casa editorial donde ha sido publicado. / This paper illustrates how the Bieniawski rock mass rating geomechanics classification, within the support system used by medium-scale mining companies, allows for the development of a new anchor rock bolt selection method aimed at improving horizontal access stability in underground mines. However, this case study only seeks to select the most efficient anchor rock bolt for any given horizontal access. A proper support selection method is very important for mining companies because this decision will safeguard both miners and mining infrastructure. This selection process will ultimately prevent fatal accidents, which is critical for mining companies today, especially considering the constant operation standstills reported in Peru.

Investigation of Single and Two Bolt Connections Perpendicular to Grain in Laminated Veneer Lumber

Patel, Monil Chintan 20 September 2009 (has links)
Bolted connection with perpendicular to grain loading has been considered as a high priority research area by Smith and Foliente (2002), for the advancement of the load resistance factor design (LRFD) of connections. The results obtained from the experimental testing of this research will provide information regarding the behavior of connections at conditions of capacity and yield, and a comparison between single and two bolted connections for laminated veneer lumber (LVL) from different manufacturers. Comparison of the experimental results with the predicted results from three models: Technical Report -12 (AF&PA 1999), Van der Put and Leijten (2000) and Jensen et. al. (2003), for single and two bolt connections loaded perpendicular to grain will help in accurately predicting LVL connection behavior. Success in achieving the goals of this research will provide enhancement of knowledge and information for single and two bolted connections loaded in perpendicular to the grain connections for LVL and thereby help in calibrating LRFD parameters on pure reliability basis in future. The variables considered included LVL from two different manufacturers, single and two bolt connections with different bolt sizes and loaded edge distances. The connections were loaded to capacity for all the tests. Tests for the material property input values required for these models were also performed as a part of this research. Connection testing showed splitting failures combined with crushing of main member material and formation of a single plastic moment. Connection resistance increased with increased loaded edge distance and number of bolts. The allowable shear design value controlled the National Design Specification Allowable Stress Design (NDS ASD) lateral design value to the connection design except for one connection configuration with 7D loaded edge distance for two bolts of ½ inch, where connection design strength values controlled. The displacement limit decided for the dowel bearing strength test had a direct impact on the predicted TR-12 capacity values. The capacity resistance calculated by both fracture models increased with increase in loaded edge distances. The Mode-I fracture energy values directly affected the predicted fracture model values. The tension perpendicular to grain strength values directly affected the Jensen model values. Statistical comparison of 4D and 7D loaded edge distances and LVL-1 and LVL-2 material revealed that Van der Put model had no difference in the calculated to test (C/T) ratios with respect to different loaded edge distances and materials and the Jensen model predicted the C/T ratios at 4D to be significantly greater than at 7D and for LVL-1 to be significantly greater than LVL-2. Van der Put model over predicts at capacity and the C/T values are consistent with change in loaded edge distance. Jensen model C/T ratios over predicted for single bolt connection and predicts accurate for two bolt connection with respect to loaded edge distances. Comparing the two fracture models with a ductile model TR-12 with respect to different loaded edge distances, material, number and size of bolts, Jensen model best predicted the C/T ratios. The Van der Put model tended to over predict values, while the TR-12 model had no consistent trend in C/T ratios, but seemed to be affected inversely by changes in loaded edge distance. / Master of Science
