Leadership ideals and values conveyed by business schools to students

Gwizdak, Elise, Kartalligil, Dilara January 2019 (has links)
Introduction. Leadership is being taught in business schools to provide students with skills in decision making, for example, within different subjects in business schools such as in ICN Business School. Purpose. The purpose of this study is to describe the student’s adoption of business school leadership ideals and values. Theoretical Framework. Implementation of theories of transactional-transformational leadership and charismatic-visionary concerning the leadership ideals of the study. Leadership ideals and leadership values correlate and correspond to the leadership styles mentioned. Methodology. Qualitative study operating in-depth interviews and surveys. Study operationalized in Bavaria, South Germany, where three business schools have been investigated for 3 months (mid-April 2019 - early May 2019). Findings. The findings of the study are the similarity of the students with the business school’s core values where a leadership ideal can be conveyed. The leadership values in detailed seem to be conveyed, and another part not entirely conveyed. Analysis. Leadership values are analyzed through SPSS results. Leadership ideals are analyzed through results of leadership values. Leadership values, leadership styles. Leadership values are all put in correlation. Conclusion. Leadership ideals are fully conveyed to students from business schools through the choice of leadership style. Leadership values are partly conveyed.

Invariantes de germes de aplicações de \'C POT. n+m\' em \'C POT.m\' e ideais de Fitting / Invariantes of map germs from \'C POT. n+m\' to \'C POT. m\' and Fitting ideals

Miranda, Aldicio José 14 April 2009 (has links)
Além disto apresentamos uma aplicação deste algoritmo no cálculo do número de pontos múltiplos em germes finitamente determinados de \'C POT.2\' em \'C POT.2\' / In the first of this work we study the necessary invariants to give conditions for the Whitney equissingularity or the topological triviality in families of map germs f : (\'C POT. n+3\', 0) \'ARROW\' (\'C POT.3\' ,0). We obtain relations between these invariants without the hypothesis of the germ to be of co-rank 1 and the unfolding to be excelent. We generalize the results given by Jorge Perez in the case co-rank one map germs f : (\'C POIT.3\', 0)!(\'C POT.3\' ,0). Other interesting problem in Singularity Theory is to find formulae which allow us to count the 0-stable singularities which appear in the discriminant of a stable deformation of a finitely determibed germ. In this context are developed methods of calculation of invariant 0-stable from the ideals of fitting associated with the discriminant set of f . Last, but not least we implement an algorithm using Maple to obtain the representation matrix of the finitely generated \'O IND.m\' module \'O IND. SIGMA\'( f ). From this matrix we obtain all Fitting ideals related with the multiple points. Moreover we show how to apply this algorithm to obtain the multiple points of finitely determined map germs f : (\'C POT.2\' ,0) \'ARROW\' (\'C POT.2\', 0)

Miss America is No Ideal: The Repercussions of One Beauty

Battistoni, Alicia Rodriguez January 2013 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Lisa Cuklanz / There are strict rules and expectations that govern the world’s idea of femininity and beauty. What are the repercussions of selecting one type of beauty to be ideal on a global scale? After watching the pageant and reading previous scholars’ findings, I argue that the Miss America Pageant presents its participants as women to be admired while its practices objectify women’s bodies. Several myths dictate how contestants should behave and historically diversity has failed to break into the pageant. On a global scale, Miss America has inspired other international beauty pageants, causing countries to compete with one another for the most beautiful woman. Selecting one beauty often times is based purely on appearance, like body type or racial characteristics. The implications of one beauty means that all women, all over the world, feel compelled to meet the standards set by this one beauty, this winner. In turn, women who do not measure up feel inadequate and strive to change their appearances to meet the mold. This model also homogenizes the concept of beauty that previously was diverse and culturally based. Pageants, like Miss America, therefore encourage women to objectify themselves in order to meet an international beauty standard that is historically based on white or western appearances. / Thesis (BA) — Boston College, 2013. / Submitted to: Boston College. The Importance of Image to Boston College Students

Garber, Shelby Lee January 2013 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Paul Gray / There is an image associated with BC students that most, if not all, undergraduates can describe. Though the more superficial explanation only includes expensive preppy brand names, Apple products, and working out at the Plex, the BC image is more multifaceted. A study of consumerism, fashion, status, narcissism, collective consciousness, the self and the generalized other, and even Jesuit ideals provides the theoretical background to the analysis. The data were collected through focus group interviews, surveys, pictures, and observations to form a complete idea of BC image. This thesis explores the many sources of this image, its definition, and the extent to which students identify with it. / Thesis (BA) — Boston College, 2013. / Submitted to: Boston College. Conway's Link Polynomial: a Generalization of the Classic Alexander's Knot Polynomial

Woodard, Mary Kay 12 1900 (has links)
The problem under consideration is that of determining a simple and effective invariant of knots. To this end, the Conway polynomial is defined as a generalization of Alexander's original knot polynomial. It is noted, however, that the Conway polynomial is not a complete invariant. If two knots are equivalent, as defined in this investigation, then they receive identical polynomials. Yet, if two knots have identical polynomials, no information about their equivalence may be obtained. To define the Conway polynomial, the Axioms for Computation are given and many examples of their use are included. A major result of this investigation is the proof of topological invariance of these polynomials and the proof that the axioms are sufficient for the calculation of the knot polynomial for any given knot or link.

Algebraic Methods for Proving Geometric Theorems

Redman, Lynn 01 September 2019 (has links)
Algebraic geometry is the study of systems of polynomial equations in one or more variables. Thinking of polynomials as functions reveals a close connection between affine varieties, which are geometric structures, and ideals, which are algebraic objects. An affine variety is a collection of tuples that represents the solutions to a system of equations. An ideal is a special subset of a ring and is what provides the tools to prove geometric theorems algebraically. In this thesis, we establish that a variety depends on the ideal generated by its defining equations. The ability to change the basis of an ideal without changing the variety is a powerful tool in determining a variety. In general, the quotient and remainder on division of polynomials in more than one variable are not unique. One property of a Groebner basis is that it yields a unique remainder on division. To prove geometric theorems algebraically, we first express the hypotheses and conclusions as polynomials. Then, with the aid of a computer, apply the Groebner Basis Algorithm to determine if the conclusion polynomial(s) vanish on the same variety as the hypotheses.

En enkätundersökning om kroppsideal bland elever i årskurs 9

Ulfheden, Jonas, Henriksson, Jon-Alexander January 2013 (has links)
According to the core contents in the curriculum for the compulsory school 2011 for the subject Physical Education grades 7-9, teachers of the subjects shall give their students knowledge about body ideals within sports, and the society as a whole. The purpose of this study was to examine and analyze the attitude toward body ideals of the students soon to leave secondary school. The study was based on a quantitative survey with 70 participating students from three different schools. The results show that the schools, according to the students, do not inform the students about body ideals. However, the result shows that the students consider body ideals as an important topic that needs to be dealt with in school, since they consider the adolescences of today are living with a pressure telling them what to look like. The students consider body ideals to be healthy as long as they have received information about it and know how to deal with it. The famous people portrayed in media influence adolescents' body image. The study has shown that the 9th graders are not happy with the body ideals and thinks that it is an important topic for the school to bring up.

Liberty, Equality and Fairness: A Study of Citizen Participation in Federal Agency Rulemaking

Engram, Thomas E. 16 April 2008 (has links)
This study examines individual-level citizen participation in the notice and comment component of federal agency rulemaking. It focuses on characteristics of individual participants ascertained through a survey mailed to 400 actual commenters. Survey data is used to evaluate the representativeness of these participants to the general public. Also, the compatible of citizen participation in rulemaking with the democratic ideals of liberty, equality, and fairness is evaluated, along with potential consequences of proposed reforms.
