This work deals with software environments for automatic test and characterization of electro-electronical devices, components and circuits. Special attention is paid to the features of testing and characterizing integrated devices and circuits. The subject is treated in two different and complementary views: i) The needs of the test and characterization engineer are addressed. The test engineer carries out physical experiments, which embody measurements and data acquisitions, data processing, visualization and analysis. ii) The needs of the software tools developer, who develops computer programs for the automation of the procedures that are usually carried out during test and characterization, are also addressed. After the analysis of the subject under study, a software framework, called SGC ("Sistema de Gerenciamento e Controle"), is proposed and implemented. The SGC Framework was implemented under MS-WindowsTm using a object oriented approach. The SGC framework aims to fulfill the needs inherent to the automatic test and characterization, when treated using the approaches mentioned above. The SGC Framework is a open system, supporting the easy integration of new software functions to the environment, as well as a practical system for test and characterization laboratory routines.

Caracterização e monitoramento remoto aplicado a um sensor magnetoelásticoFelizari, Alessandra January 2016 (has links)
New amorphous magnetic materials have magnetic and elastic properties which allows the identification and control of environmental parameters remotely. This work was based in the investigation of a magnetoelastic thin strip, widely used as anti-theft device. In this study it was discussed the employment of this material as a sensor capable identify an environmental change through magnetoelasticity. In order to characterize the strips it was employed several techniques, namely: finite element modeling of the vibrational modes, electromagnetic impedance and laser interferometry. It was presented an analysis of the displacement of the longitudinal modes. The knowledge of the vibration mode allowed the sensor electric characterization when subjected to environmental changes. According to the sample dimensions under magnetic field, test systems were developed in order to perform optic and electric measurements. A proper parameter adjustment of the power supply allowed the determination of the fundamental and higher order resonance frequencies. The magnetostrictive behaviour of the anti-theft strips is related to the Young modulus where the vibration frequency is inversely proportional to the length of the strip. Studies showed that the strip performance is also related to many other parameters, such as the mechanical and electromagnetic properties and the environment to which it is exposed. The strips here presented are largely employed as sensor for temperature, pressure, density, mas variation, viscosity and flux velocity mainly because their wireless capabilities. The data from the polarization field are a section of the knowledge required to better investigate the best performance of the sensor. The sensor characterization through several techniques applied in viscous media and under pressure raise some issues. However, the construction of some devices allowed the application of different values of viscosity and pressure upon the magnetized strip. This made the results interpretation less complex. The resonances were observed in the experimental data and mathematical modellin. Calibration curves were defined to make the results interpretation easier.Previously applied and studied techniques which cover the characterization and behaviour of the material provide valid justifications for the implementation of remote sensors made of amorphous metallic strips. The results presented here justify the application of the analysed amorphous strip as a viscosity and pressure sensor in isolated enviroments.

Avaliação da qualidade da água e do sedimento e ocorrência de cianobactérias potencialmente tóxicas em trecho paulista do Rio Paraíba do Sul / Water and sediment quality assessment and occurrence of potentially toxic cyanobacteria in São Paulo stretch of the Paraíba do Sul RiverLucas Gonçalves Queiroz 19 June 2015 (has links)
The Paraíba do Sul River is considered one of the most important rivers of the Brazilian Southeast. It is located between the two major Brazilian cities: São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The water quality from this source is significantly impaired due to deforestation, misuse and occupation of the soil in urban and rural areas, use of agricultural inputs and the daily release of approximately one billion liters of domestic sewage. This situation is aggravated because only 21% of the effluent released in the basin is treated. The discharge of effluents rich in nutrients such as phosphorus and nitrogen, can contribute directly to the eutrophication process. The aim of this study was to evaluate the water and sediment quality, and determine the occurrence of potentially toxic cyanobacteria in the São Paulo stretch of the Paraíba do Sul River, between the cities of Aparecida, Guaratinguetá, Lorena and Cachoeira Paulista. Water and sediment samples were collected upstream and downstream in each municipality on August/13, November/13, February/14, May/14 and August/14. The variables evaluated were pH, temperature, conductivity, turbidity, DO, BOD, COD, total phosphorus, total nitrogen, solid series, fecal coliforms, chlorophyll-a and toxicity tests using Daphnia similis and Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata in the water. For the sediment, granulometry, organic matter, total phosphorus and toxicity tests were performed using D. similis and Chironomus xanthus. Water Quality Index (WQI) and Trophic State Index (TSI) of the water were calculated. Statistical analyses were applied: Grouping Cluster Analysis, Spearman Correlation and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The results showed that DO, total phosphorus and fecal coliforms were not in accordance with the CONAMA resolution 357/05. Acute and chronic toxic effect were determined in water samples, during the rainy season, November/13 and February/14. A reduction of total phosphorus, total solids and BOD in the water, and total phosphorus and organic matter in the sediment was observed during this study. These reduced values can be related to implementation of sewage treatment plants in the cities of Aparecida and Cachoeira Paulista at the end of year 2013. The WQI was classified as \'Good\', except at downstream point of the municipalities of Aparecida and Guaratinguetá, classified as \'Regular\'. The TSI has shown that most of the points could be classified as \'mesotrophic\', except for the point downstream of Cachoeira Paulista, classified as \'oligotrophic\'. The main genera of cyanobacteria found were Borzia sp., Hapalosiphon sp., Johannesbaptistia sp., Leptolyngbya sp., Lyngya sp., Oscillatoria sp., Synechocystis sp. and Phormidium sp. From the statistical analysis, it was observed that rainfall had strong influence on the main parameters evaluated. Furthermore, the influence of parameters related to the discharge of effluents on water quality was observed. The results suggest that the Paraíba do Sul River demands more actions to promote the improvement of the quality of its waters, especially regarding the discharge of effluents.

This thesis fall within an approach aiming to develop UV-processed materials having a good thermo-mechanical properties balance between strength, temperature resistance and impact resistance. A direction toward this objective is the use of photocurable (meth)acrylate resins modified with polyfunctional thiols. Indeed, thiol-ene chemistry is known to have poor sensitivity toward oxygen inhibition, to improve the dimensional stability and toughness properties of photocured materials. However, thiol-ene resins are subjected to premature uncontrolled dark polymerization, an issue that has to be solved for their success in the photopolymers area. The first part of this work is focused on the thermo-mechanical and the photopolymerization properties investigation of a pentaerythritol tetrakismercaptopropionate (PETMP) modified (meth)acrylate based resin by looking at different ratio of polythiol/(meth)acrylate. The second part is dedicated to the understanding of the thermal instability of such systems and to the solving of this issue. Finally, a special interest is brought to the characterization of photopolymeric networks by pyrolysis-GC/MS. The lake of deep understanding and view about how the cured networks are really constituted due to the difficulty to analyze insoluble cured polymers, prevents improvements in the formulation of high performance materials. Further information on cured networks constitution could bring useful information for the elaboration of new materials. A new characterization method based on direct multi-step pyrolysis-GC/MS is developed and an attempt on the characterization of polythiol (meth)acrylate material by Py-GC/MS is reported and discussed.

Influência do tratamento de normalização nas propriedades mecânicas e de corrosão nos aços AISI 52100 e AISI 52100 modificado ao Si e Mn / Influence of normalization treatment on the mechanical and corrosion properties of AISI 52100 and Si-Mn modified AISI 52100 steelsSilva, Mariane Capellari Leite da 12 August 2019 (has links)
SAE AISI 52100 steel with tempered martensitic microstructure is used for the manufacture of bearings as well as in the manufacture of other parts and devices for marine applications. The modification of this steel with the addition of silicon and manganese can improve the mechanical properties in medium-high temperature. This Si-Mn modified steel exhibits high resistance to softening during tempering, which can be exploited in high temperature behavior. For this work, it was used the AISI 52100 steel with chemical composition in accordance to ASTM A295- 2014 and an experimental steel with 1.82% Si and 1% Mn, based on AISI steel 52100. After normalization heat treatment, the phenomena of phase transformation were investigated through microstructural, mechanical and corrosive studies at different temperatures. The addition of Si and Mn together with the normalization treatment improve hardness, impact toughness and tensile strength at 25, 300 and 400 oC, but decreased the corrosion resistance compared to AISI 52100 steel in the condition used in the industries. Therefore, normalized modified steel proved to be suitable for use at higher temperatures that do not require corrosion resistance in 3.5%w. NaCl solution.

Characterizing Wireless and Powerline Communication Channels with Applications to Smart Grid NetworksGuzelgoz, Sabih 01 January 2011 (has links)
Smart grid aims at improving the efficiency, reliability, security, and quality of service (QoS) of the current electricity grid by exploiting the advances in communication and information technology. In parallel to size of the electricity grid, smart grid communication infrastructure should cover a very large geographical area that may extend from remote generation sites to densely populated residential regions and inside buildings, homes, and electricity-power-system environments. In such an extensive communication network, different communication technologies operating on different communication medium are likely to coexist. Among the communication technologies available, wireless and power line communication (PLC) based solutions are comparatively attractive especially considering cost of the initial investment required for the realization of a communication network with such an immense size.
In this dissertation, a detailed investigation of wireless and PLC channel characteristics of the smart grid networks is presented. Among the topics discussed are the time variation characteristics of wireless channels, root-mean-squared (RMS) delay spread and path amplitude statistics of PLC channels, and the impact of impulsive noise on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems.

Model-Theoretic Analysis of Asher and Vieu's MereotopologyHahmann, Torsten 25 July 2008 (has links)
In the past little work has been done to characterize the models of various mereotopological systems. This thesis focuses on Asher and Vieu's first-order mereotopology which evolved from Clarke's Calculus of Individuals. Its soundness and completeness proofs with respect to a topological translation of the axioms provide only sparse insights into structural properties of the mereotopological models. To overcome this problem, we characterize these models with respect to mathematical
structures with well-defined properties - topological spaces, lattices, and graphs.
We prove that the models of the subtheory RT− are isomorphic to p-ortholattices
(pseudocomplemented, orthocomplemented). Combining the advantages of lattices
and graphs, we show how Cartesian products of finite p-ortholattices with one multiplicand being not uniquely complemented (unicomplemented) gives finite models of the full mereotopology. Our analysis enables a comparison to other mereotopologies, in particular to the RCC, of which lattice-theoretic characterizations exist.
