Modelling the Cross-Country Trafficability with Geographical Information Systems

<p>The main objectives of this work were to investigate Geographical Information Systems techniques for modelling a cross-country trafficability. To accomplished stated tasks, reciprocal relationships between the soil deposits, local hydrology, geology and geomorphology were studied in relation to the study area in South-Eastern Sweden.</p><p>Growing awareness of nowadays users of GIS in general is being concentrated on understanding an importance of soil conditions changed after cross-country trafficability. Therefore, in this thesis, constructing of the Soil Knowledge Database introduced to the genuine geological soil textural classes a new, modified geotechnical division with desirable for off-road ground reasoning measurable factors, like soil permeability, capillarity or Atterberg’s consistency limits.</p><p>Digital Elevation Model, the driving force for landscape studies in the thesis, was carefully examined together with the complementary datasets of the investigated area. Testing of the elevation data was done in association to the hydrological modelling, which resulted with the Wetness Index map. The three distinguishable soil wetness conditions: dry, moist and wet, were obtained, and used consequently for creation of the static ground conditions map, a visible medium of soils susceptibility to for example machine compaction.</p><p>The work resulted with a conceptual scheme for cross-country trafficability modelling, which was put into effect while modeling in GIS. As a final outcome, by combining all processed data together, derivatives were incorporated and draped over the rendered 3D animating scene. A visually aided simulation enabled to concretized theoretical, hypothetical and experimental outcomes into one coherent model of apprised under Multicriterial Evaluation techniques standardized factor maps for ground vehicle maneuverability. Also further steps of research were proposed.</p>

Supporting flexible workflow processes with a progression model

<body>Users require flexibility when interacting with information systems to contend with changing business processes and to support diverse workflow. Model-based user interface design can accommodate flexible business processes by integrating workflow modelling with other modelling approaches. We present a workflow model, the progression model, to help in developing systems that support flexible business processes. <p> The progression model tracks a users interaction with an application as a set of data elements we refer to as a workflow transaction. The steps a user takes to create a workflow transaction and the state of the workflow transaction at each step is made explicit. By making the workflow status and workflow transaction state explicit, the user can change the order of the steps in a process, manage multiple workflow transactions, keep track of data as it is accumulated, and so on. The intent is to provide the user with a mechanism to deal with partial information, interrupted and concurrent workflow transaction entry, and the processing of multiple workflow transactions. <p> This thesis describes the progression model, an XML-compliant notation to specify the progression model, and a prototype system. </body>

Research Ontology Data Models for Data and Metadata Exchange Repository

<p>For researches in the field of the data mining and machine learning the necessary condition is an availability of various input data set. Now researchers create the databases of such sets. Examples of the following systems are: The UCI Machine Learning Repository, Data Envelopment Analysis Dataset Repository, XMLData Repository, Frequent Itemset Mining Dataset Repository. Along with above specified statistical repositories, the whole pleiad from simple filestores to specialized repositories can be used by researchers during solution of applied tasks, researches of own algorithms and scientific problems. It would seem, a single complexity for the user will be search and direct understanding of structure of so separated storages of the information. However detailed research of such repositories leads us to comprehension of deeper problems existing in usage of data. In particular a complete mismatch and rigidity of data files structure with SDMX - Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange - standard and structure used by many European organizations, impossibility of preliminary data origination to the concrete applied task, lack of data usage history for those or other scientific and applied tasks.</p><p>Now there are lots of methods of data miming, as well as quantities of data stored in various repositories. In repositories there are no methods of DM (data miming) and moreover, methods are not linked to application areas. An essential problem is subject domain link (problem domain), methods of DM and datasets for an appropriate method. Therefore in this work we consider the building problem of ontological models of DM methods, interaction description of methods of data corresponding to them from repositories and intelligent agents allowing the statistical repository user to choose the appropriate method and data corresponding to the solved task. In this work the system structure is offered, the intelligent search agent on ontological model of DM methods considering the personal inquiries of the user is realized.</p><p>For implementation of an intelligent data and metadata exchange repository the agent oriented approach has been selected. The model uses the service oriented architecture. Here is used the cross platform programming language Java, multi-agent platform Jadex, database server Oracle Spatial 10g, and also the development environment for ontological models - Protégé Version 3.4.</p>

Das Leibniz-Institut für ökologische Raumentwicklung (IÖR) verfolgt u. a. das Ziel, präzise Kenntnisse über das Mengengerüst des deutschen Gebäudebestandes und seiner Eigenschaften zu gewinnen und räumlich hochauflösende Indikatoren als Grundlage einer nachhaltigen Raumentwicklung für Planer und Entscheidungsträger zu erarbeiten. Dieser Beitrag fokussiert auf Ansätze der räumlichen Analyse, die eine Quantifizierung und Charakterisierung des Gesamtbestandes von Wohn- und Nichtwohngebäuden unterstützen. Vorgestellt werden erste Ergebnisse einer deutschlandweiten Auswertung amtlicher Hauskoordinaten und Hausumringe. Der Gebäudebestand wird nach Bundesländern und nach Raumstrukturtypen des Bundesinstituts für Bau-, Stadt- und Raumforschung (BBSR) gegliedert. Es besteht Bedarf, nicht nur Datenmodelle zu entwickeln, sondern daraus auch Erklärungs- und Messmodelle abzuleiten, die einen expliziten Raumbezug aufweisen und sich zur bestandsorientierten Wissensgewinnung sowie zur Strategieentwicklung eignen – auch im europäischen Kontext.

Semantically-enriched and semi-autonomous collaboration framework for the Web of Things : design, implementation and evaluation of a multi-party collaboration framework with semantic annotation and representation of sensors in the Web of Things and a case study on disaster management

This thesis proposes a collaboration framework for the Web of Things based on the concepts of Service-oriented Architecture and integrated with semantic web technologies to offer new possibilities in terms of efficient asset management during operations requiring multi-actor collaboration. The motivation for the project comes from the rise in disasters where effective cross-organisation collaboration can increase the efficiency of critical information dissemination. Organisational boundaries of participants as well as their IT capability and trust issues hinders the deployment of a multi-party collaboration framework, thereby preventing timely dissemination of critical data. In order to tackle some of these issues, this thesis proposes a new collaboration framework consisting of a resource-based data model, resource-oriented access control mechanism and semantic technologies utilising the Semantic Sensor Network Ontology that can be used simultaneously by multiple actors without impacting each other’s networks and thus increase the efficiency of disaster management and relief operations. The generic design of the framework enables future extensions, thus enabling its exploitation across many application domains. The performance of the framework is evaluated in two areas: the capability of the access control mechanism to scale with increasing number of devices, and the capability of the semantic annotation process to increase in efficiency as more information is provided. The results demonstrate that the proposed framework is fit for purpose.

[pt] O processamento de consultas em Sistemas de Gerência de Banco de Dados tradicionais tem sido largamente estudado na literatura e utilizado comercialmente com enorme sucesso. Isso é devido, em parte, à eficiência das Máquinas de Execução de Consultas (MEC) no suporte ao modelo de execução tradicional. Porém, o surgimento de novos cenários de aplicação, principalmente em conseqüência do modelo computacional da web, motivou a pesquisa de novos modelos de execução, tais como: modelo adaptável e modelo contínuo, além da pesquisa de modelos de dados semi-estruturados, tal como o XML, ambos não suportados pelas MEC tradicionais. O objetivo desta tese consiste no desenvolvimento de uma MEC extensível frente a diferentes modelos de execução e de dados. Adicionalmente, esta proposta trata de maneira ortogonal o modelo de execução e o modelo de dados, o que permite a avaliação de planos de execução de consultas (PEC) com fragmentos em diferentes modelos. Utilizou-se a técnica de framework de software para a especificação da MEC extensível, produzindo o framework QEEF (Query Execution Engine Framework). A extensibilidade da solução reflete-se em um meta-modelo, denominado QUEM (QUery Execution Meta-model), capaz de exprimir diferentes modelos em um meta-PEC. O framework QEEF pré-processa um meta-PEC e produz um PEC final a ser avaliado pela MEC instanciada. Como parte da validação desta proposta, instanciou-se o QEEF para diferentes modelos de execução e de dados. / [en] Querying processing in traditional Database Management Systems (DBMS) has been extensively studied in the literature and adopted in industry. Such success is, in part, due to the performance of their Query Execution Engines (QEE) for supporting the traditional query execution model. The advent of new query scenarios, mainly due to the web computational model, has motivate the research on new execution models such as: adaptive and continuous, and on semistructured data models, such as XML, both not natively supported by traditional query engines. This thesis proposes the development of an extensible QEE adapted to the new execution and data models. Achieving this goal, we use a software design approach based on framework technique to produce the Query Execution Engine Framework (QEEF). Moreover, we address the question of the orthogonality between execution and data models, witch allows for executing query execution plans (QEP) with fragments in different models. The extensibility of our solution is specified by in a QEP by an execution meta- model named QUEM (QUery Execution Meta-model) used to express different models in a meta-QEP. During query evaluation, the latter is pre-processed by the QEEF producing a final QEP to be evaluated by the running QEE. The QEEF is instantiated for different execution and data models as part of the validation of this proposal.

Aplikace systémové dynamiky v managementu zdravotnického zařízení / Application of system dynamics in the management of medical facilities

At the present time, characterised by increasing complexity of not just socio-economics systems, decision-making in positions of executive management is becoming increasingly difficult. Although more and more attention is dedicated to use of information and communication technologies in corporate sector and organizations collect unprecedented amount of very detailed data from all areas, their real nature is often not considered. Data, information and knowledge, through which we can achieve real understanding of causes of the observed systems behaviour, are necessary basis for ability for prediction of tomorrow's effects of today's decisions. This thesis aims to highlight the essence of data, information and knowledge in organization and the necessity of systemic perception for creating efficient and effective decisions. The second part of this thesis presents design of system-dynamic model (including user interface), which explains the mechanisms of health care volume accounting in medical facilities with more departments. The model should facilitate understanding of functioning of hospitals by the public, and respect of general nature of medical facilities functioning to create a base for robust model-oriented decision support system for the management.
