Služba - jednotící prvek ve spiritualitě Luisy de Marillac a Vincence de Paul / Service - the unifying element in the spirituality of Louise de Marillac and Vincent de Paul

Hůlová Majerčíková, Petra January 2020 (has links)
This work, entitled 'Service - the unifying element in the spirituality of Louise de Marillac and Vincent de Paul', deals with the interconnection of two spiritualities Louise de Marillac and Vincent de Paul. I tried to test the assumption that an important connecting element of both important figures in the history of Catholic spirituality is the spirituality of service. In a way, this diploma thesis is a continuation of the previous bachelor thesis entitled 'Selected themes of spirituality Louise de Marillac'. The text is divided into four parts. The first one deals with the contemporary context and spiritual influences in 17th century France. In this part, I also focus on important moments and originally different social and cultural conditions of life of Vincent de Paul and Louise de Marillac. The core of the second and third chapters are Vincent de Paul's spirituality and Louise se Marillac's spirituality. Immediately follows the fourth part, which is the link between the two previous chapters. It contains the key statements of the two saints, based on which it is possible to form an idea of what it meant to Vincent and Louise to honour the Incarnate Word, as manifested in their service and concrete charitable works. Finally, these works are presented as evidence of the unified emphasis of...

Father Involvement, Nurturant Fathering, and the Psychological Well-Being of Young Adult Daughters

Peterson, Camille C. 01 May 2007 (has links)
The present study was conducted to investigate the relationship between father involvement, nurturant fathering, and the psychological well-being among young adult women. A total of 99 young adult, female, university students completed retrospective measures of nurturant fathering, father involvement, and measures of current psychological well-being (measured in terms of self-esteem, life satisfaction, and psychological distress). Results indicated that retrospective perceptions of both father involvement and nurturant fathering were positively correlated with daughters' current levels of self-esteem and life satisfaction. Perceptions of expressive involvement, and nurturant fathering were found to have the strongest relationship with self-esteem and life satisfaction. Results, however, did not indicate any significant correlations between fathering measures and daughters' current psychological distress. Together, the results of the present study provide several important implications for future father-daughter research and the field of marriage and family therapy.

This is a creative work in the genre of non-fiction writing, in the sub-genre of memoir. When Again Comes Back to You is a memoir that traces the effects of abuse as it works upon the life of a young girl who grows in the shadow of an abusive family. As the girl grows, and becomes a mother herself, the story explores how the effects of abuse can extend into the next generation.

Intergenerational socioeconomic mobility in Germany : How does it affect the educational attainment for second generation immigrant daughters?

Peric, Emina January 2023 (has links)
The aim of this thesis was to study the intergenerational socioeconomic mobility of second generation immigrant daughters in Germany, by measuring how the parents’ educational level affect their children’s education. By adding a gender equality index to the dataset, the aim was to create a more nuanced interpretation of the results, including how cultural views in the parents’ source country can affect the parental investments. The results imply that daughters seem to have a lower intergenerational mobility, in line with previous research. When interacting a gender equality index variable with the parents’ educational level the results suggested that a high educated father from a country with high gender equality will increase both his son’s and daughter’s educational attainment. On the other hand, a high educated mother from a country with high gender equality will instead decrease her son’s educational level. Furthermore, another interaction variable was generated to translate how the parents’ educational level affects second generation immigrant children but failed to produce estimates on a statistically significant level. Nonetheless, it is important to notice that the results implied that both sons and daughters have a lower educational level than their fathers, and that daughters have a lower educational attainment than their mothers. This suggests that second generation immigrant children do not outperform their parents, as previous research suggests.

Active Latter-Day Saint Working Mothers: their Effect on their Daughters' Future Plans

Allred, Nissa C. Bengtson 01 January 1994 (has links) (PDF)
This research looks at the effect employed active LDS mothers have on their daughters' future plans for education, career, marriage, and children. Mothers' educational level, type of employment, and daughters' attachment to the LDS church were taken into consideration. It was found that a majority of daughters are definite in their plans for education, career, marriage, and children regardless of the employment status of their mother. Daughters of employed LDS mothers are more definite in their plans for a career than daughters of unemployed LDS mothers. No effect was found for mothers' employment on daughters' future plans for college, marriage, and children. Mothers' type of employment also had no effect. Mothers' education, but not for career, marriage, or children. Mothers' employment had a greater effect on her daughters' future plans for a career than did the daughters' attachment to the LDS church.

Christian Feminist Publications and Structures of Constraint: A Comparison of Daughters of Sarah and Exponent II Within the Contexts of Neo-Evangelicalism and Mormonism

Cluff, Sasha S. 01 January 1996 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis uses content analysis to compare two conservative Christian feminist publications: Daughters of Sarah, produced by neo-evangelical feminists, and Exponent II, produced by Mormon feminists. Findings are based on insights from three main theories: Debra Minkoff's organization-environment perspective, Nancy Folbre's model of collective action based on structures of constraint, and the church-sect typology from the sociology of religion literature. Although both organizations similarly endeavor to integrate feminist and religious identities, the loose boundaries of evangelicalism allow Daughters of Sarah to explore a more liberal feminist agenda and interact with broader feminist sources while still remaining within the broad domain of evangelicalism. In contrast, the strict organizational boundaries of Mormonism tightly constrain Exponent II's feminist discourse and agenda. While focusing on how religious environments serve as dominant sources of opportunity and constraint for associated organizations, this study also highlights the complexity involved in the construction of christian feminist identities.

Reading Political Hope: Temporal And Historical Modelling In Contemporary Canadian Fiction

Jackson, Elizabeth A. 05 1900 (has links)

This dissertation examines explicit and implicit conceptualizations of time and history in four contemporary Canadian novels: Allan Donaldson's Maclean, Joy Kogawa's Obasan, Margaret Laurence's The Diviners, and Lee Maracle's Daughters are Forever. Performing close textual analysis from a posture of 'deliberate empathy,' the author identifies several key textual devices and concepts that signal the texts' alternate ideas about time and history. These include temporal simultaneity, historical multiplicity, and the presence of the past. Drawing on critical work from fields including literary theory, globalization and cultural studies, indigenous studies and anthropology, the author investigates the political significance of the texts' different historical and temporal models. She argues that the way individuals and cultures understand time and history bears significant influence on the ways in which they understand their ethical relationships with and responsibility toward the world around them. The dissertation closes with a call for further engagement with questions of temporality and for continued efforts to link pedagogical activity to struggles for human rights.
/ Thesis / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
