Mapping invisible cities : addressing the complexities of achieving polyphonic archives

Maxwell, Susan January 2016 (has links)
In the 1990s and 2000s, the theory on which professional practice of archivists and records managers drew was reviewed, in light of cultural and technological changes and of postmodernist philosophies. In particular, the theoretical narrative of the “neutral archives” was terminally disrupted, and more explicit responsibility attributed to the profession for actively seeking to redress the way that power imbalances in contemporary society were reflected in ‘the archive’. Professional archivists and records managers began to look for ways in which as professionals they could counteract these areas of neglect. There had not been any systematic analysis of “marginality” or “marginalised” as a concept, as opposed to particular instances thereof. In addition, the focus of attention in many of the responses had been those records related to situations or groups that already had been politicised. This combination seemed problematic, as a conceptualisation of marginality or exclusion was emerging and consolidating, one that focused primarily on situations of political instability or disenfranchisement or of conflict. While the disruption of the narrative of the neutral archive could in theory have resonance for all information professionals in all working environments, the particulars of the examples of exclusion and marginalisation were not applicable in every scenario. That is to say, those archivists and records managers who were not responsible for records that were in some clear way related to a politicised group or situation could assume on that basis that they were not, in their professional capacity, colluding in exclusion, marginalisation or neglect. By articulating the conceptualisation of marginality and seeking to focus on possible domestic and quotidian means by which power imbalances and exclusions are manifested, this research contributes to the extension of the relevance of the debate to politically stable environments and everyday activities, in addition to unstable or post-conflict situations. By focusing on the potentially dynamic relationship between the information curator and the records for which they were responsible – rather than the records creators or subjects – it also draws out additional opportunities for professional engagement with social and cultural imbalances.

Teorias semióticas no campo da documentação na Espanha /

Almeida, Carlos Cândido de. January 2017 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: In the Documentation in Spain, Semiotics has been a source of influential conceptual and constitutes a relevant theoretical proposition. The linguistic or logical approaches applied to Documentation began in the 1980s. Since then, documental processes have been considered as semiotic activities, they assume manipulation, translation, conversion, transmission and interpretation of signs. This research investigated the semiotic lines in the Documentation in Spain. The hypothesis it was that the semiotic orientation of Spanish studies in Documentation still required a comprehensive and systematized treatment. The research had as objective to analyze the disciplinary relations between Semiotics and Documentation in Spain. The research adopted, on the one hand, the theoretical-bibliographic method, and on the other hand, with testimonies of specialists in Documentation and Semiotics. Among the results, it highlighted the convergence of most of the theoreticians with semiotic themes linked to Linguistics; the need to approach linguistic and semiotic scientific communities; the important refoundation of a Documental Semiotics, following the guidelines of Izquierdo Arroyo; the inclusion of information technology, computational linguistics and descriptive representation within semiotic studies in Documentation and, finally, the identification of disciplinary barriers. It concluded that the semiotic approaches had an original potential to language studies in the knowledge organization, and can contribute to Information Science in Brazil.

Master of Social Work Student Perception in Access to Documentation Training in Social Work Programs

Downs, Saige 01 June 2017 (has links)
This study explored the Master of Social Work (MSW) student perception of access to documentation training in their program. When a student graduates with a degree, there is an expected level of competency in regards to documentation when entering the field. Currently, there is literature available about the risk of poor documentation and the need for additional documentation training in the field of social work but the literature focusing on the perceptions of the student is very limited. The study contributed to the academic literature on social work documentation by providing awareness of the student perception of where they received documentation training in their graduate program. The research design for this study is qualitative and exploratory due to insignificant literature available. A survey was administered to graduating MSW students through a California State University School of Social Work. The findings suggested that MSW students would benefit from additional clinical documentation training from their MSW program since the student perceptions are there is limited access to training within the program. There are numerous of implications to the field of social work in regards to the lack of documentation training in MSW programs. The absence of training from students may include not having a full understanding of risk management that corresponds with documentation and will have to assume to be ethically responsible for when the student graduates from their program. This can be detrimental to the student’s professional development and can overall create a decrease in the quality of graduating MSW students.

Synstörning vid fall och fallskador En registrering av det dokumenterade

Källstrand- Ericson, Jeanette January 2007 (has links)
<p>Falls and fallinjuries are very common in peoples own homes in various institutions. Hospital inpatients often fall during daytime in connection with their visit to the toilet. Visual impairment such as cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy can cause falls. The purpose of this study was to examine patient´s records where falls and fallinjuries were documented at an emergency clinic and to examine if they were registered to visual impairment. The records from 68 hospital inpatients from the age of 65 years and older who did fall during the year of 2004, were examined. In spite of different preventive actions that were taken, falls and fallinjuries often happened when the patients were on the move and left on their own. The number of patients who have any visual impairment and a record at an eye clinic, were 41. Thirtytwo of the patients who have any visual impairment did fall between 18:00 - 06:00. In the emergency clinics records, there were no records about how the patients experienced their visual ability. Objective and subjective visual impairment were only registered in the eye clinics records. When risk assessments are made, visual impairment should be considered as a riskfactor for falling. It should be considered as an independent riskfactor as well as in addition with other riskfactors. When the patient gets to the ward, the nurse should ask the patient and register if he or she has any visual impairment. The nurse can therefore use strategies to plan the caring and prevent falls and fallinjuries during the patients stay at the emergency clinic. Visual impairment as well as the natural ageing affects the visual ability and therefore the wards environment should contain sharp colours and bright lightening.</p>

Distriktssköterskors dokumentation i omvårdnadsjournal vid telefonrådgivning.

Johansson, Birgitta, Skoglund, Kerstin January 2007 (has links)
<p>The aim of the study was to describe what district nurses, who work with telephone- advice, document in patient record, to be able to develop their documentation. The Authors have examined 50 patient records. The examination tool is collected from “Lokal anvisning för hälso- och sjukvården I Södra Älvsborg”. The audit areas was record keeping, review and planning, realization, individual nursing and the patients participation, information, education and agreement. The sample was stratified to avoid examining only one district nurses´ documentation. The sample was from, the five first and the five last telephone-advices that was documented in patient record, the five first days in July 2006. The result of the audit shows a lack of documentation in nursing record with telephone-advice, for example the patients problems is missing, it can lead to a poorer security of the patient. The Authors conclusion is that the district nurses who works with telephone-advice needs education in documentation, to increase and improve security of the patient in nursing and treatment.</p> / <p>Syftet med studien var att beskriva vad distriktssköterskor dokumenterar i samband med telefonrådgivning för att kunna utveckla distriktssköterskors omvårdnadsdokumentation vid telefonrådgivningssituationer.

Pedagogisk dokumentation i förskolan : en kvalitativ studie om pedagogers tankar om arbetet med pedagogisk dokumentation i förskolan / Educational documentation in preschool : a qualitative study of teachers thoughts about educational documentation in preschool

Björnberg, Alexandra January 2009 (has links)
<p>The purpose of this study was to examine through interviews, how preschool teachers describe educational documentation and how they use this educational tool in their everyday activity. To get an overview of what educational documentation can be, the study takes its startingpoint in the educational movement in Reggio Emila in Italy after the second World War, where educational documentation was an important part of the educational philosophy. The background also gives an overwiev of the policy documents for preschools in Sweden. The study shows that educational documentation run the risk of being confused with or reduced to the children’s folders, where the aim is to describe with a few chosen pictures the child’s growth trough the years in preschool. But this is no educational documentation. The study pointed at the educational factor as an important aspect of how teachers describe their work with educational documentation. Further and recurring education is essential in the dynamic profession of preschool education. Leadership seems to be important, especially for the teachers that has not had any further education. The time for work with educational documentation is described as adequate, but when the question of joint refexion came up, the time was said to be too short. The dialogue that is important for the educational documentation does not take place. ICT, <em>Information and Communication Technology</em>, plays an essential part in today´s work with educational documentation. The access to technical equipment and knowledge how to use it is varying and in need of improvement.</p>
