Polyelectrolytes : Bottle-Brush Architectures and Association with Surfactants

Naderi, Ali January 2008 (has links)
This thesis has the dual purpose of raising awareness of the importance of the mixing protocol on the end products of polyelectrolyte-oppositely charged surfactant systems, and to contribute to a better understanding of the properties of bottle-brush polyelectrolytes when adsorbed onto interfaces. In the first part of this thesis work, the effects of the mixing protocol and the mixing procedure on formed polyelectrolyte-oppositely charged surfactant aggregates were investigated. It was shown that the initial properties of the aggregates were highly dependent on the mixing parameters, and that the difference between the resulting aggregates persisted for long periods of time. The second part of the studies was devoted to the surface properties of a series of bottle-brush polyelectrolytes made of charged segments and segments bearing poly(ethylene oxide) side chains; particular attention was paid to the effect of side chain to charge density ratio of the polyelectrolytes. It was shown that the adsorbed mass of the polyelectrolytes, and the corresponding number of poly(ethylene oxide) bearing segments at the interface, went through a maximum as the charge density of the polyelectrolyte was increased. Also, it was found that bottle-brush polyelectrolyte layers were desorbed quite easily when subjected to salt solutions. This observation was rationalized by the unfavourable excluded volume interactions between the side chains and the entropic penalty of confining them at an interface, which weaken the strength of the binding of the polyelectrolytes to the interface. However, it was shown that the same side chains effectively protect the adsorbed layer against desorption when the layer is exposed to solutions containing an oppositely charged surfactant. Investigation of the lubrication properties of the bottle-brush polyelectrolytes in an asymmetric (mica-silica) system also related the observed favourable frictional properties to the protective nature of the side chains. The decisive factor for achieving very low coefficients of friction was found to be the concentration of the side chains in the gap between the surfaces. Interestingly, it was shown that a brush-like conformation of the bottle-brush polyelectrolyte at the interface has little effect on achieving favourable lubrication properties. However, a brush-like conformation is vital for the resilience of the adsorbed layer against the competitive adsorption of species with a higher surface affinity. / QC 20100830

The Effects of Excluding Coalitions

Hiller, Tobias 04 June 2018 (has links) (PDF)
One problem in cooperative game theory is to model situations when two players refuse to cooperate (or the problem of quarreling members in coalitions). One example of such exclusions is the coalition statements of parliamentary parties. Other situations in which incompatible players affect the outcome are teams in firms and markets, for example. To model these exclusions in cooperative game theory, the excluded coalitions value ( φE value) was introduced. This value is based on the Shapley value and takes into account that players exclude coalitions with other players. In this article, we deduce some properties of this new value. After some general results, we analyze the apex game that could be interpreted as a team situation and the glove game that models markets where sellers and buyers deal. For team situations, we show that all employees have a common interest for cooperation. On asymmetric markets, excluding coalitions affect the market players of the scarce side to a higher extent.

Ctnosti a hodnoty výbava komunitních pracovníků v sociálně vyloučených lokalitách. / Virtues and values - the equipment of community workers in socially excluded areas

VOMLELOVÁ, Aneta January 2016 (has links)
The thesis deals with the reflection of human practice of the comunnity worker´s profession in socially excluded areas, which is represented by good practise and experience of community workers from two socially excluded areas, in a more profound philosophical ethical context. The human being the community worker is the most important factor in community work. Their inner maturity, cultivating inner qualities and entrenched values are besides the knowledge of community work methodology what community workers together identify as a necessary prerequisite for the success. The thesis is divided in three chapters all of which follow the line of setting a theoretical historically philosophical view in the particular practice of a community worker in a socially excluded area. In the first chapter there is an insight into the theory of virtue ethics from the ancient times to the present days, along with the virtue definition, the deconstruction of cardinal and theological virtues and it also discusses how we acquire virtues. The second chapter deals with value ethics. The author tries to answer a question what is the core of values, which one stands above all, what is the way to the meaning of values and, by extension, of a human - being, what is the value definition. It also reflects the values formed by social exclusion. In the third chapter the author tried to take a look into the ethical practice of the community worker in a socially excluded area especially by means of dilemma which was presented and analyzed there.

Politika nulové tolerance v Duchcově a Litvínově jako (společnost polarizující) politika disciplinace / Zero Tolerance policy in Duchcov and Litvínov: A Case of Polarizing Politics of Disciplination

Matysová, Barbora January 2016 (has links)
In this thesis, I deal with the Zero tolerance policy in its perspective of theory, records and application. I regard it as a disciplining policy, which leads to polarization and consequent deepening of problems in absence in of indications of social issues by their proper names. Answer to the issue of work is evidence of a practical example in a foreign surrounding and subsequent in-depth qualitative analysis of the two urban cases of region Ústí nad Labem - Duchcov and Litvínov. The data were processed by qualitative methods and techniques of sociological research in support partial statistics and hard data. This combined methodology aims to grasp the topic in the field of urban sociology and on that basis try for plasticity research based on interdisciplinarity. Based on research confirmed that the Zero tolerance policy in Duchcov and Litvínov is not recommendable manual for dealing with long-term social and deteriorating security situation. found that the appointment of politicians do not address the causes of incurred to shape the long-term problems. Furthemore been found the named policy do not address the causes of incurred to shape the long-term problems. Vice versa, reverses the logic of cause and effect - the cause of the decline in the quality of life in cities. In thus considered the...

Testování gnostické proprioceptivní modality / Testing of gnostic proprioceptive modality

Paříková, Zuzana January 2017 (has links)
Targets: The aim of the diploma thesis was to create the set of tests on proprioception processing with focus on kinesthesia, stereognosis, body image, vision-excluded space orientation and proprioceptive shape imagination acuity. The tests are supposed to be easy for practical utilization and enabling objective results gaining. In future, they could become a part of adults' dyspraxy testing. Further we intended to investigate possible relations between particular items of testing battery MABC-2 (Movement Assessment Battery for Children 2nd ) and the set of tests on proprioception. Participants: 35 healthy members took place in testing, 11 boys and 24 girls (13,1-15,7). Method: Participants first underwent testing according to the testing battery MABC-2 for the age group 11 - 16 years (AB 3) for screening into categories of development coordination disorder. Subsequently the testing of proprioceptive modality was performed, targeted on kinesthesia, stereognosis, body image, vision-excluded space orientation and on proprioceptive imagination of a shape. Data Analysis: Data analysis has been performed in the statistical environment R-project (version 3.4.0). Following statistic tools have been utilized: the Pearson's correlation coefficient and two- tailed unpaired t-test. Results: The relation of...

Kompetence a předpoklady obecní územní samosprávy k efektivní politice sociálního začleňování / Competencies and requierements of municiapalities fot the social inclusion policy

Švec, Jakub January 2016 (has links)
Diploma thesis deals with competencies of local municipalities in social inclusion policy. Social exclusion is a key phenomenon of contemporary policy, and municipalities play an important role in such policy. Though, municipalities often tend to fail in their role. The thesis describes and analyse the competencies of local governments and tries to set up and ideal local inclusion policy: a complete set of possible measures that a municipality can use in dealing with social inclusion. This ideal is further on used in two case studies: formative evaluation of local policies in two small towns in South Bohemia. The result is interpreted in perspective of social construction of target groups theory, explaining why do or do not municipalities use concrete inclusive measures. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Vymezení konceptu komunitní školy v českém školském systému / The Definition of community school concept in the Czech educational system

Lauermann, Marek January 2019 (has links)
This dissertation is designed as a theoretical research study, whose aim is to explore the possibilities of mapping and development of the community aspect of schools. This field of study is still relatively unexplored. The goal of this dissertation is to outline theoretically the concept of a Community school, and to stress the change of paradigm of current education and focus on how the role of school changes in current society. The dissertation also focuses on theoretical aspects of school perception and current scientific knowledge in given area. The research focuses on the analysis and characteristics of the Community school model. Further goal of the empirical research was to determine whether there is a reliable instrument to help identify the type and quality of a given Community school, identify a basic typological distribution of Community schools in the Czech Republic, identify how individual concepts of Community schools differ in the content and delivery of their curricula, and how are principles of Community schools interconnected with the principles of inclusive education, and in particular with the provision of equal opportunities. The qualitative research was carried out in five elementary schools in the Czech Republic that identify themselves as Community schools. These five...

Tělesné složení a motorická výkonnost u Romských dětí v okrese Most / Body Composition and Motor Performance of Roma Children in the Most District

Česák, Petr January 2020 (has links)
Title: Body Composition and Motor Performance of Roma Children in the Most District Background: The Roma way of life, or rather the values they live up to, is different from the values and way of life of the majority population. This results in a lower life expectancy of the Roma and a worse social position in Czech society, even in total social exclusion. Since the individual's lifestyle evolves from childhood on, we focused on assessing the lifestyle using several parameters of body composition and motor performance of Roma children in socially excluded Roma localities Aims: The aim of this thesis is to find out the influence of the lifestyle of Roma children living in socially excluded Roma localities in the Most district on their body composition and motor performance. The second goal is to compare the body composition and motor performance of the children from majority population and socially excluded children from the Most district with the Czech children population standards. Methods: In total 733 children 7-15 years of age participated in the study, of which 448 were from majority population of the Most district (221 girls and 227 boys) and 285 children were from socially excluded Roma localities in the Most district (124 girls and 161 boys). Bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA 2000 M...
