Advanced EFL Learners' Referential Forms in Written Narratives

Tsung-pin Chen Unknown Date (has links)
The present study investigates advanced EFL learners’ referential forms in their written narratives. The purpose is to specify the distributional patterns of referential forms and their discourse function in learners’ narrative production. EFL learners’ referential forms are divided into five categories: Zero anaphora, Pronoun, Definite NP, Name, and Name + modifier. It is found that all learners unanimously use abundant Names and Pronouns in their written narratives, whereas the least frequent types are Definite NP and Name + modifier. With respect to the discourse function, advanced learners tend to perform the function of Introduction by Name, Name + modifier, and Indefinite NP. When maintaining same subject topics, advanced learners tend to use Zero and Pronoun. And the Reintroduction functions are often fulfilled by Name. Overall, Pronoun is more likely to cause ambiguity than any other forms. And the abundant use of Names may have something to do with the marking of episode boundaries. The referential distance values of the referential forms comply with the cognitive need of readers’ discourse processing. The more informative forms such as Name + modifier can refer back to their antecedents at a distance, while the semantically empty forms such as Pronoun can only refer back to their antecedents within few clauses. From readers’ perspective, there remain a few inappropriate referential forms in learners’ narratives, which may arise from L 1 interference or ignorance of rule restriction. The problematic use of referential forms suggests that although advanced learners can produce grammatically correct referential forms, they have not fully acquired the discourse function of these forms. It is recommended that the discourse aspects such as distance and episodic unit be considered when EFL learners use referential forms.

Form factors in superconformal theories in four and three dimensions

Gurdogan, Omer Can January 2014 (has links)
This thesis focuses on form factors in superconformal theories, in particular maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills (MSYM) and ABJM. Scattering amplitudes in these theories have a wealth of special properties and significant amount of insight has been developed for these along with the modern techniques to calculate them. In this thesis, it is presented that form factors have very similar properties to scattering amplitudes and the techniques for scattering amplitudes can be successfully applied to form factors. After a review of the methods employed, the results for tree-level and multi-loop form factors of protected operators are derived. In four dimensions, it is shown that the tree-level form factors can be computed using MHV diagrams BCFWrelations by augmenting the set of vertices with elementary form factors. Tree and loop-level MHV and non-MHV form factors of protected operators in the stress-tensor multiplet of MSYM are computed as examples. A solution to the BCFW recursion relations for form factors is derived in terms of a diagrammatic representation. Supersymmetric multiplets of form factors of protected operators are constructed. In three dimensions, Sudakov form factor of a protected biscalar operator is computed in ABJM theory. This form factor captures the IR divergences of the scattering amplitudes. It is found that this form factor can be written in terms of a single, non-planar Feynman integral which is maximally transcendental. Additionally, the sub-leading colour corrections to the one-loop four-particle amplitude in ABJM is derived using unitarity cuts. Finally a basis of two-loo pure master integrals for the Sudakov form factor topology is constructed from a principle that relies on certain unitarity cuts.

Table Driven Algorithm for Joint Sparse Form

Chen, Bing-hong 25 August 2007 (has links)
In Cryptography, computing a^xb^y mod n is the most important and the most time-consuming calculation The problem can be solved by classical binary method. Later research is based on this basis to increase computational efficiency. Furthermore, Binary signed-digit representation recoding algorithm, the Sparse Form, the DJM recoding method, and the Joint Sparse Form can be used to decrease the number of multiplication by aligning more non-zero bits. Another method is to pre-compute and store the part of the results to decrease the number of computations by shifting bits. Joint Sparse Form recording method is not a table driven algorithm in converting source codes into joint sparse form. In this paper, we first proposed a table driven algorithm for joint sparse form to simply recording concept. This algorithm can be constructed a finite state machine to denote the recording procedure. According to this finite state machine, we show that the average joint Hamming weight among joint sparse form is 0.5n when n approaches infinity. Finally, we show that the average joint Hamming weights of SS1 method and DS1 method among joint sparse form are 0.469n and 0.438n by using a similar method, respectively.

STILISERING AV FORM OCH TEXTUR INOM 3D-GRAFIK : Och dess inverkan på betraktarens uppfattningav karaktärer / STYLIZATION OF SHAPE AND TEXTURE WITHIN 3D-GRAPHICS : And it’s impact of the beholders perception ofcharacters

Karnerfors, Tommy January 2013 (has links)

Hellgren, Anders January 2013 (has links)
Most major companies today have a visual identity. It answers questions like: which font do I use? and when can I use the logo or not? Westinghouse Nuclear Fuel in Västerås have a visual identity but no guidelines for the employees to follow. Further-more, rollups and rollup handouts produced by Westinghouse are not mentioned in the visual identity. ᰀerefore the external information from Westinghouse is someti-mes, both by employees and customers, perceived as not uniform.  In this thesis I focus on how Westinghouse produces rollups and rollup han-douts. Wo the reader’s attention and interest. The result also indicates that the ma-terial often fails to achieve this purpose cause of how it is produced. It also showed that the employees had diᴀerent experiences in how the material was produced and therefore wished for guidelines to help in the process.  With knowledge gained from theoretic studies, literature studies and the re-sults of my situation analysis, interviews and material analysis, I produced a proposal on how the guidelines and templates could look like. I did a testing of the guidelines and templates where a test subject had to produce a print ready rollup with the help of them and achieved a positive result.  The conclusions of my thesis is that templates and guidelins should be expla-natory and designed with the user in mind and that the company and indivdual has much to gain from using templates and guidelines.
