The purpose of this study is to make an analysis of certain factors as they are related to freedom of teaching in Texas. This study will include community relations as well as the conditions within the classroom, as for example, the freedom in discussing controversial ideas.

This study attempts to determine the effect of foreign policy on the freedom of the press through analysing newspapers from three Middle Eastern countries (Syria, Jordan and Kuwait) to test hypotheses regarding the direction and trends in the coverage of the two superpowers (The United States of America and the Soviet Union). The coverage was examined in the light of trends in Syrian, Jordanian and Kuwaiti foreign policies towards the United States of America and the Soviet Union. This study is trying to assess any correlation between foreign policy and the freedom of the press, and to look at internal factors (press and publication law) which might influence both foreign policy and press. This study found out that the meaning of freedom of the press is shaped by political and economic factors. There are clear differences in the definitions and implications of freedom of the press between journalists in Syria and in the other two countries (Jordan and Kuwait). This analysis leads us to the conclusion that the Syrian, Jordanian and Kuwaiti press and publication laws share one major characteristic that is the laws of these countries are more restrictive than protective. The ideals in the three countries constitutions which guarantee freedom of the press are one thing and practices are another.

This thesis handles the subjects of freedom and democracy on the West Bank, Palestine. The analysis builds on discourse theory with focuses on the informants’ reality and experiences. In order to highlight the difficulties they face in their daily lives under occupation and oppression this thesis focuses on how they express themselves in regards to freedom and democracy. The study has been carried out through fieldwork and qualitative interviews undertaken to ascertain the people’s opinions and views on subjects of democracy and freedom. The analysis handles subjects of inequalities, how fellow citizens get divided geographically and based on opinions held, the reasons behind it; as well as the role played by the occupation of the Palestinian territories in the fight for democracy and freedom for the informants.

The purpose of this study is to make sense of the notion of freedom in Bergson&lsquo / s philosophy. Bergson&lsquo / s original approach to the problem of free will is the application of the notion of duration to solve this problem. For Bergson, the problem of free will arises from a misconceived framework which is based on reducing time to space. Throughout the thesis, we tried to show how the notion of duration allows Bergson to reformulate and solve the problem of free will. For that purpose the method of intuition as the method to understand the notion of duration is also elucidated. In the light of the method of intuition and the notion of duration, free acts can be seen as the creative acts of the fundamental self. We arrive at the conclusion that freedom in Bergson&lsquo / s philosophy can be understood as a kind of creativity.

Sovereignty has long been deemed an unchallengeable concept. However, starting from end of twentieth century, this concept is severely impacted by the trend of Globalization. And now, it becomes a debatable issue that whether or not the core characters of the traditional Sovereignty theory: i.e. supremacy, inalienability and indivisibility remain. By way of methodologies of documentary analysis and comparative analysis, I intend to start with introducing the traditional Sovereignty theory, examining how this Sovereignty socio-science was structured by the traditional Sovereignty theory, which includes how the core concept, ie. Freedom, Capitalism and modernity impacted the traditional Sovereignty theory. Then, I would like to introduce Zygmunt Bauman¡¦s view, who is one of the contemporary socio-science masters, toward Freedom, Capitalism and Modernity, and to compare the difference implied between these two views. And last, I tried to critique this artificial Sovereignty concept, although it long been adopted, with Bauman¡¦s view from the following dimensions: (a) the structural error of Sovereignty theory; and (b) in reality, the collapse led by modernity of the 3 pillars, ie. Economy, Culture and Military of Sovereignty theory.
