Using Graphic Organizers with Scriptural Text: Ninth-Grade Latter-Day Saint (LDS) Students’ Comprehension of Doctrinal Readings and Concepts

Potter, Mark D. 01 August 2011 (has links)
This study investigated the effect of instruction that included graphic organizers on LDS seminary students’ ability to understand scriptural text and their ability to identify doctrines in scriptural text, utilizing a repeated measures, quasi-experimental design involving 209 ninth-grade student participants. The participants were randomly assigned by class to one of two treatment groups. Participants in the treatment group received instruction using graphic organizers with the standard curriculum and participants in the comparison group received instruction using only the standard curriculum. Three different measures were employed to measure the effectiveness of the graphic organizers intervention: (a) a multiple-choice test of LDS doctrines and principles; (b) an identifying doctrines and principles in text test; and (c) a student perception survey. Results of the ANOVA for the multiple-choice test indicated no significant difference between instructional groups for ability to recall facts from the class instruction and the class text, F (1, 205) = 1.60, p = .21, partial ή² = .21. Results of the ANOVA for the identifying doctrines and principles in text test, measuring transferability of the skills learned while studying the Doctrine and Covenants to a different text containing some of the same doctrines and principles, also indicated no significant difference between groups, F (1, 196) = 1.93, p = .17. The results for the student perception survey were positive; most students felt confident about their ability to comprehend scriptural text, but were slightly less confident about their ability to identify doctrines and principles in the text. The participants in this study were generally positive in their willingness to learn about and use graphic organizers. Results of this study indicated that graphic organizers did not significantly impact students’ ability to identify doctrines and principles in scriptural text or to learn concepts from scriptural text.

Expressive Generation - Educational Guerilla Marketing

Garay, Camila, Millner, Emilia January 2008 (has links)
“A creative city requires creative solutions” was one of the many insights we got when conduction our examination project together with a Minor Field Study, in Cape Town/South Africa. This report is a window into our South African design adventure and explores the question; how can we create an expressive and dynamic campaign that will succeed in a vibrant city like Cape Town? Under the wing of our assigners at The Frank Joubert Art Centre we created an edgy and interactive campaign for The Expressive Generation Exhibition, that plays with both its environment and its viewer. Our extensive research gave birth to a new design concept; Educational Guerrilla Marketing, with the context of involving the young artists and designers in their own exhibition advertisement. So, how did we manage to combine a design examination project with a social-focused SIDA-report and at the same time get a life changing experience? The following pages will paint you the picture.

Grafisk profilering i HRbranschen : Processen bakom skapandet av logotyp och grafisk profil till Dala HR Partner / Visual Brand Identity in the HR Business : The process behind creating a logotype and graphic profile for Dala HR Partner

Malmberg, Malin, Palm, Malin January 2016 (has links)
This survey is conducted in collaborati on with the client and HR company Dala HR Partner. The purpose of the survey is to find out how the logo and graphic profile should be designed to best convey the company's goals and values, serious, competent, efficient and safe. A visual content analysis was performed with the aim to get a better understanding of how other HR companies graphic profiles look like. Semistructured interviews were conducted with Dala HR Partners target audience and a complementary survey of people with experience in graphic design to get opinions both from laymen and experienced professionals. The different data collection methods gave us good basis for the development of the logo and graphic identity that would best convey Dala HR Partners goals and values, and comply with the components that make up a complete graphic identity. From the survey, it has emerged that it is important with an idea to the visual material for the properties to be conveyed in the best way. The choice of, for example, color and shape are important in how the company values are communicated. Results of the final logo and graphic profile shows that they largely conveys Dala HR Partners values and goals, serious, competent, efficient and safe, which was the goal of this study and our thesis.

African graphic systems: a preliminary study, with reference to the history and theory of graphic design

Carey, Piers Christian January 2004 (has links)
Dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the academic requirements for the Master of Technology Degree: Graphic Design, Durban Institute of Technology, 2004. / This project has investigated African graphic systems, both writing systems and systems of symbolic graphics. These systems are commonly used in Graphic Design, but those of African origin have been largely ignored in both the applied discipline, and in its History and Theory. The project has attempted to explain this in historical and theoretical terms: its motivation is described in terms of countering the exclusion of African visual culture in the face of historical and ideological factors such as colonialism and globalisation. The project's research aims were to collect as much information as feasible on these systems; and to classify them according to such criteria as their language or cultural group, their location, and the functional nature of the systems. From this body of information a smaller number of representative systems were selected for further description and discussion, in order to highlight the variety of systems existing in Africa, their historical development, and techniques and materials used. These selected systems were then used as inspiration and raw material for a body of applied Graphic Design work, which is intended to provide a visual introduction to the material, and to promote and advocate the revaluation of this cultural material. Information has mainly been gathered by means of library and internet search, in order to establish approximately the extent of the literature in the public sphere. Because of the obscurity of most of this information, it has been gathered from such other disciplines as Linguistics, Anthropology, or History. The project has established the existence of a large number of graphic symbols and systems, and gathered a body of literature and references about them. Many are poorly documented, if at all, and even those for which extensive literature / M

An empathetic approach to information design

Unknown Date (has links)
This thesis will explore the vital importance of empathy on the part of graphic designers when creating information graphics. Today’s over-mediated public expects a rich user experience that is emotionally engaging, and multi-sensory by nature. To meet the public’s need, graphic designers must accept the cognitive responsibility to be empathetic to the viewers’ relationship to the information, and not just the surface issues of form, media, and content. / Includes bibliography. / Thesis (M.F.A.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2015 / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection
