MPLS-based recovery

Müller, Karen E 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MSc)--Stellenbosch University, 2003. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: MPLS-based recovery is intended to effect rapid and complete restoration of traffic affected by a fault in a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network. Two MPLS-based recovery models have been proposed: lP re-routing which establishes recovery paths on demand, and protection switching which works with pre-established recovery paths. lP re-routing is robust and frugal since no resources are pre-committed but it is inherently slower than protection switching which is intended to offer high reliability to premium services where fault recovery takes place at the 100 ms time scale. This thesis presents an overview of various recovery techniques and addresses the problem of how to find an in some sense optimal set of pre-established traffic engineered recovery paths, given a network with link capacities and traffic demands. We present and motivate our choice of a nonlinear objective function and optimization method for finding traffic engineered working and recovery paths. A variant of the flow deviation method is used to find and capacitate a set of optimal label switched paths. We present and evaluate two simple methods for computing a set of pre-established traffic engineered recovery paths by using the flow deviation method.

Improving IP Literacy among Brazilian Startups: the Design of an Innovative Learning System

Nogueira Viana, Julio Augusto 01 November 2018 (has links)
Intellectual Property (IP) is considered a valuable asset for a company and the relevance of effective IP management has been intensely discussed in the literature. However, research gets scarce when the focus is on SMEs and startups. Scholars and experts appoint the lack of knowledge on IP as one of the main reasons for the underperformance of small firms in the matter. Several initiatives attempted to solve the lack of knoweldge on IP unsuccessfully. Meanwhile, Brazil is seeking improvement in competitiveness and increasing its efforts on innovation. The number of startups sontrongly increased in the last years. This work uses Design Science Research to develop an innovative artifact to improve IP literacy among Brazilian startups. Using the design process stated in the methodology, we analyzed existing IP literacy systems and concluded with design recommendation for future systems. Additionally, we surveyed Brazilian startups to understand how these companies manage their IP and how they access knowledge. Consequently, we developed the system based on the recommendation from initial studies and evaluated it with potential users and IP experts in Brazil. Finally, Brazilian startups used the learning system and improved their knowledge on IP by increasing their capabilities of designing strategies to improve the IP value.

[en] PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF MICROMOBILITY PROTOCOLS IN IP NETWORKS / [pt] ANÁLISE DE DESEMPENHO DE PROTOCOLOS DE MICRO-MOBILIDADE PARA REDES IP

MACSON JOSE MENDES DE ALMEIDA 24 September 2002 (has links)
[en] Since some years ago the Internet is continually grwoing in importance in the peoples life, even for work, amusement, information or businesses. That spread is making the need for access goes outside the office or the home and reach the free air, the people would like to access Internet of his/her notebook while they are in their path for the work, home or school. To make it possible the IETF made studies and it defined a standard, The Mobile IP. However the Mobile IP doesn t totally solve the mobility problem in Internet, and to complement it, the micromobility protocols had appeared. In this work was analyzed the two main protocols of micromobility in detail and was suggested an extension for the improvement of the performance of the wireless access to the Internet.

Intellectual Property Management Strategy In New Technology-based Start-up Companies

Aktalay, Banu 01 December 2004 (has links) (PDF)
To draw up an intellectual property management strategy is one of the most important tasks to do when starting up technology-based companies, which play a very important role in the knowledge-based economies. IP management due to protection must be regarded as a strategic asset aimed at improving the competitive advantages, increasing the revenue of a technology-based start up company and encouraging to continue to develop new technologies, by securing a technological platform for a future development, preventing competitors from gaining access to emerging markets, creating retaliatory power against competitors and preventing innovative products from being plagiarized. Through this study the aim is forming a guide including why and how an IP management strategy develop and implement to a new technology-based start up company. Beside these it is proved that from the properties that characterize the start-up configuration of a high-tech firm there can be derived three organizational archetypes of firms each of which requires different IP management strategies.

Spojovací systémy založené na IP telefonii / Communication systems based on IP telephony

Zimek, Josef January 2008 (has links)
My master’s thesis is focused on designing and creating communication network, which provides communication between two independent networks through encrypted tunnel. My solution is based on routers formed by older personal computers with FreeBSD like a operating system. Between routers is created static encrypted tunnel by using IPSec protocol. Voice services provides packet oriented exchange Asterisk with support of signaling protocol SIP. This solution can be used eg. for connecting remote branch to headquarters of company and then can branch utilize shrared resources. To headquarters can connect also remote workers from their home. In this case are used SSL certificates to authentication of user. This scenario is very required today.

1588-ENHANCED VEHICLE NETWORK CONCEPT DEMONSTRATION

Grace, Thomas, Roach, John 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2006 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Second Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 23-26, 2006 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / CTEIP has launched the integrated Network Enhanced Telemetry (iNET) project to foster advances in networking and telemetry technology to meet emerging needs of major test programs as well as within the Major Range and Test Facility Base’s. This paper describes one objective of the vNET concept demonstration to provide a test vehicle instrumentation network architecture that can support additional capabilities for data access to the test vehicle. Specifically, this paper addresses the expansion of the current concept demonstration with the incorporation of the IEEE- 1588 standard as the basis for a network time distribution mechanism. Near-term network-based data acquisition systems will likely consist of a mix of standard IRIG 106 timekeeping and IEEE- 1588 timekeeping; in this paper we will examine the ramifications of using the two approaches with the same test vehicle instrumentation system.

iNET Standards Validation: End-to-End Performance Assessment

Moodie, Myron L., Araujo, Maria S., Grace, Thomas B., Malatesta, William A., Abbott, Ben A. 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2010 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Sixth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 25-28, 2010 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / The integrated Network-Enhanced Telemetry (iNET) project has developed standards for network-based telemetry systems. While these standards are based largely on the existing body of commercial networking protocols, the Telemetry Network System (TmNS) has more stringent performance requirements in the areas of latency, throughput, operation over constrained links, and quality of service (QoS) than typical networked applications. A variety of initial evaluations were undertaken to exercise the interfaces of the current standards and determine real-world performance. The core end-to-end performance initial evaluations focus collectively on the movement of telemetry data through the TmNS. These initial evaluations addressed two areas: end-to-end data delivery and parametric data extraction. This paper presents the approach taken by these ongoing efforts and provides initial results. The latest results will be presented at ITC 2010.

The Performance Evaluation of an OFDM-Based IP Transceiver at Eglin AFB

Berard, Alfredo, Cook, Paul, Roach, John 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2010 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Sixth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 25-28, 2010 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / The 46th Test Wing, 846th Test Support Squadron (846 TSS/TSI) at Eglin AFB is currently evaluating their airspace for the use of SOQPSK transmitters and receivers for telemetry. The Squadron will incorporate an IP-compatible OFDM transceiver from Teletronics Technology Corporation (TTC) that will provide a two-way communication channel for controlling configuration settings of the airborne SOQPSK transmitter and receiver. This provides an opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of an airborne network instrumentation system and measure some critical parameters, with an opportunity to assess the performance and reliability of streaming telemetry and OFDM-based IP communication systems. This paper describes the experimental test setup created for this evaluation and summarizes the measurement and evaluation process.

Key Components of the iNET Test Article Standard

Grace, Thomas B., Kenney, Joshua D., Moodie, Myron L., Abbott, Ben A. 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2009 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Fifth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 26-29, 2009 / Riviera Hotel & Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / The integrated Network-Enhanced Telemetry (iNET) Test Article Standards Working Group (TASWG) has developed a standard for Telemetry Network System (TmNS). The introduction of Internet Protocol (IP) networks on test ranges has created the potential for greater flexibility in the telemetry environment. This paper discusses the rationale for particular decisions concerning key components mandated by the standard. Performance implications concerning the mandates of the standard are also described. As an educational aid, examples of TAS-based processing philosophies and data structures have been constructed. These examples, including sending and receiving messages, are shown to reinforce understanding core concepts of the standard.
