Andersson, Nathalie January 2010 (has links)

Baseband Processing Using the Julia Language

Mellberg, Linus January 2015 (has links)
Baseband processing is an important and computationally heavy part of modern mobile cellular systems. These systems use specialized hardware that has many digital signal processing cores and hardware accelerators. The algorithms that run on these systems are complexand needs to take advantage of this hardware. Developing software for these systems requires domain knowledge about baseband processing and low level programming on parallel real time systems. This thesis investigates if the programming language Julia can be used to implement algorithms for baseband processing in mobile telephony base stations. If it is possible to use a scientific language like Julia to directly implement programs for the special hardware in the base stations it can reduce lead times and costs. In this thesis a uplink receiver is implemented in Julia. This implementation is written usinga domain specific language. This makes it possible to specify a number of transformations that use the metaprogramming capabilities in Julia to transform the uplink receiver such that it is better suited to execute on the hardware described above. This is achieved by transforming the program such that it consists of functions that either can be executed on single digital signal processing cores or hardware accelerators. It is concluded that Julia seems suited for prototyping baseband processing algorithms. Using metaprogramming to transform a baseband processing algorithm to be better suited for baseband processing hardware is also a feasible approach.

A Synthesis of Classical Boundary Theorems

Dakhlia, Lukas A 01 June 2022 (has links) (PDF)
Bounded analytic functions on the open unit disk D = {z ∈ C | |z| < 1} are a fre-quent area of study in complex function theory. While it is easy to understand thebehavior of analytic functions on sequences with limit points inside D, the theorybecomes much more complicated as sequences converge to the boundary, ∂D. In thisthesis, we will explore boundary theorems, which can guarantee specific desired be-havior of these analytic functions. The thesis describes an elementary approach toproving Fatou’s Non-Tangential Limit Theorem, as well as proofs and discussion ofthe subsequent classical boundary theorems for specific points, Julia’s Theorem andthe Julia-Carathéodory Theorem. This thesis serves as a synthesis of these boundarytheorems in order to fill a gap in the overarching literature.

A Semanalytic Approach to Modern Poetry: Examining Elizabeth Bishop Through the Theories of Julia Kristeva

Wilson, Brandy Michelle 24 April 2008 (has links)
In utilizing Kristeva's psychoanalytic discursive theory of identity-formation within literary symbolic structures, my thesis seeks to follow the ontological processes involved in identity and signification in “subversive” signifying practices. Specifically, I'm interested in the ways modern poetry (such as Elizabeth Bishop) defies traditional patriarchal discourse as dominant literary devices while embracing plurality and inherent virtues of the female voice. My project will trace Kristeva's semiotic/psychoanalytic evolution from linguistic models of the signifying process, to particulars of her psychoanalytic/linguistic theories, and finally, will attempt to construct a space within modern poetry, where it can be said, the subject (poet) remains on trial/in crisis, and poetic expression reveals the “jouissance” or unspoken voice of repression. Bishop's poetry constantly questions reality, knowledge, sexuality and the self. I strive to expose how Bishop's poetry performs Kristeva's theory of the self in writing; her poetry puts at the core of the self a sense of loss in her attempts to express herself in language. I offer close readings of “The Fish,” “Questions of Travel,” and “One Art,” to show how Bishop's self exposes the unconscious process of poetic activity. Kelly Oliver articulates Kristeva's contributions to linguistics and psychoanalysis quite succinctly, “When we learn to embrace the return of the repressed/the foreigner within ourselves, then we learn to live with, and love, others” (14). / Master of Arts

De Michele, Patrick 15 December 2012 (has links)
This dissertation presents the results of research carried out on the architecture of the monumental municipal and religious center of the ancient city of Apta Iulia (Apt). A Latin colony created apparently by the initiative of Julius Caesar and finalized by Octavian-Augustus during the first century B.C., its remains are scattered inside the cellars of the old center of the city of Apt. We have committed ourselves to defining the chronology covering the periods corresponding to its creation up to its presence within modern constructions in the city center. The principal buildings studied are the ancient theatre, its porticus post scaenam, the possible presence of a basilica and the main components of its forum (temple and senate). The results are presented in the form of maps of the group of discovered structures and by a significant collection of photographs of the principal edifices of this monumental urban Gallo-Roman ensemble.

Dinâmica complexa e formalismo termodinâmico / Complex dynamics and thermodynamic formalism

Lima, Carlos Alberto Siqueira 01 April 2011 (has links)
We shall study complex dynamical systems in the Riemann sphere and prove that the Hausdorff dimension \'dim IND. H\' J( \'f IND. Lãmbda\' ) of the Julia set J( \'f IND. lâmbda\' ) of an holomorphic family of hyperbolic rational maps \'f IND. lâmbda\' defines a real analytic map of the parameter \'lâmbda\': This result was proved in 1981 by D. Ruelle (see [44]). We give an alternative proof using holomorphic motions (see [31]), which was originally developed to study the structural stability problem of complex dynamical systems. Throughout this work, we shall use several tools of Thermodynamic Formalism, including Bowens formula
