[en] ADOLESCENCE AND LOVE RELATIONS: AN ESSAY ON TEENAGERS FROM RIO DE JANEIRO S LOWER CLASSES / [pt] ADOLESCÊNCIA E RELAÇÕES AMOROSAS: UM ESTUDO SOBRE JOVENS PERTENCENTES ÀS CAMADAS POPULARES CARIOCAS

MARIANA SANTIAGO DE MATOS 13 August 2004 (has links)
[en] This essay aimed to investigate adolescence, focusing on love relations conceptions and experiences on teenagers from Rio de Janeiro`s lower classes, what was made possible through semi-structured interviews including themes such as love, boyfriends/girlfriends, dating, short relationships, sexuality expressions, future ideas of marriage and starting a family. The choice for this social class was due to the perception that the majority of studies concerning love relations refers to people from the upper classes, and we understand that different realities may affect experiences in the teenage period. Using psychoanalytical authors as reference, first it was made theoretical revision on adolescence. Then, love relations were studied as a theme, divided in its transformations through history, followed by results of recent researches, considerations about new relations and specific studies on lower classes. Finally, the results of the field research were presented and discussed, and they pointed to the desire, from the interviewed teenagers, for long lasting relations including affections, what is generally made possible by a period of dating, when the couple get to know each other better.

This work aims at investigating the faces or ways of presenting love and love relations in the lyrics of Chico Buarque's songs. Understanding love as a feeling inherent to all human beings as well as a culturally constructed ideal, the investigation proposed here will turn to some songs of the buarquian songbook which allow the discussion of the following aspects: the expression of the I in love, the love discourse; the relatiosnhip man/woman under the female view; the idea of love as romantic expression and its veiculation through songs as a product of the mass culture; the sexual desire and the presence of the body of the beloved one in songs between 1972 and 1978; the relation love/time and the changes in the artist's perspective about love modulated over time. This way, we intend to stablish a course of reading that demonstrates how the theme love is set in Chico Buarque's songs, understanding that it presents itself not only confirming its tradition in the lyric tradition in which its is inserted but also calling this tradition and the ideal of love into question. As the theoretical reference, this work will resort to the thinking of Roland Barthes, Octavio Paz, Edgar Morin, Denis de Rougemont, Simon May, Adélia Bezerra de Meneses, Mary Del Priori, Luiz Tatit, among others.

Systerskap i två amerikanska romansviter för unga kvinnor : en jämförande analys av Louisa May Alcotts Little Women, Good Wives och Ann Brashares The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. / Sisterhood in Two American Novel Suites for Little Women : A comparative analysis of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women and Good Wives and Ann Brashares' The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

Klementsson, Marie-Helene January 2007 (has links)
The purpose of this Master Thesis is to compare two American novel suites for young women, Louisa May Alcott‟s Little Women and Good Wives to Ann Brashares series of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. The social status of women and children in the US during the 19th century is analyzed and compared historically and literary with the situation 130 years later. The main question is, what differences exist in the books and is there a connection between the changes in society and literature? The method of this Master Thesis is to make a comparative narratological analysis placed in a historical context. The result shows that the multiple character remains and enhances the identification process. Motherhood in the works of Alcott is prominent, whereas in the works of Brashares, sisterhood replaces motherhood. In Alcott‟s US during the 19th century, Christian faith was in the foreground. The goal for girls was the holy matrimony, followed by the sanctuary of heaven. Brashares depicts, in the 21st century, self-fulfilment to be aspired on earth. The strength of Alcott‟s portrayed sisterhood is weakened when marriage is consumed. In Brashares works, the love relationships are no longer the sole purpose of life and consequently not a competitor to the sisterly friendship.
