Surface Plasmon Polariton and Wave Guide Modes in a Six Layer Thin Film Stack / Modes dans un empilement de six couches minces : plasmons polaritons de surface et guides d'onde

Achlan, Moustafa 16 May 2018 (has links)
In this thesis, we investigate the optical properties of a six-layer stack (air-Au-SiO₂-Au-Ti-glass). The interfaces are flat and the modeling is performed using elementary Fresnel expressions at the interface and plane wave propagation in the layers. Two models are used where the sample is: i) excited by a source at infinity (excitation by source at infinity (ESI)); ii) excited by a local source. In the experiments we are modeling this source consists of the inelastic tunneling electrons from a scanning tunneling microscope (STM). In our modeling this source is replaced by a vertical oscillating dipole. Using these two models one calculates the reflected (reflectance) and the transmitted (transmittance) flux from a source at infinity and the transmitted flux of a local source. Surface plasmon polariton (SPP) and wave guide (WG) modes may be identified in the reflectance, transmittance and transmitted flux. In a particular wavelength domain the SPP and WG repel each other giving rise to an avoided crossing. The choice of the gold (Au) and silica (SiO₂) thicknesses of the six-layer stack is guided by two requirements: high amplitude of the observable and wide wavelength dependence of the in-plane wave vector. We also study the influence of the gold and silica thicknesses on the observables. We find that the observables are significant for dAu[10, 90 nm] for the three and dAu[10, 50 nm] for six layer stacks and this predictive study guided the choice of the experimental sample thicknesses. The wave guide mode appears for dSiO₂ >190 nm. The electric field as a function of the penetration coordinate z is calculated in order to characterize the location of the field in the stack and to assign the nature of the modes. We observe that for the SPP the electric field is confined at the Au-air interface whereas, the electric fields corresponding to the WG mode are confined inside SiO₂ layer. Our calculations presented in this work are in good agreement with the experimental measurements performed in our group.

Evaluation of a Control Protocol for Testing an Automotive Ethernet TCP/IP Stack

Abdelhamid, Abdelkader Youssef Abdelkader 11 September 2018 (has links)
The evolving of the networking application and electronic components are pushing the bandwidth limits in the automotive domain [19]. Consequently, the car manufacturers have begun to produce more complex Electronic Control Units (ECUs) to fulfil the automotive technology evolution. Car manufacturers have used ECUs from different vendors to get the most creative features in cars [19]. These ECUs requires a standard network interface such as Ethernet which can bring significant features such as high bandwidth, low weight and full duplex communication. Nowadays, Ethernet has adapted to apply in the automotive application. Therefore, it has called for a high degree of testing to ensure the safety and interoperability between these ECUs. However, the testing of the Automotive Ethernet is facing many challenges such as finding and solving the issues as early as possible in the development process. Besides that, testing an Automotive Ethernet TCP/IP stack is a complex task, as it required an upper tester to cause the implementation of the device under the test to move to specific states. AUTOSAR has defined a standardised control protocol (Test Stub) to use it as an upper tester for executing the AUTOSAR Acceptance Test (for TCP/IP stack) [6]. This protocol has used for conducting the test cases of the TCP, UDP and IP protocols in AUTOSAR [21] [22] [23]. OPEN Alliance has specified an Automotive Ethernet ECU test specification which covers more protocols than AUTOSAR such as ARP and DHCP [7]. Consequently, potential gaps and issues may arise when using the Test Stub to conduct the test cases of the OPEN Alliance, as it initially defined for conducting the AUTOSAR Acceptance Test. This work presents the evaluation of the Test Stub in context of using it to conduct the OPEN Alliance Automotive Ethernet ECU Test. Furthermore, it will introduce a solution to overcome the potential issues and gaps which may arise after using the Test Stub (defined by AUTOSAR) to conduct the test cases of the OPEN Alliance.

Interaktiv visualisering av stora dataset med webbtekniker : En jämförelse mellan JavaScript-biblioteken Leaflet och OpenLayers / Interactive visualization of big data with web technologies : A comparison between the JavaScript libraries Leaflet and OpenLayers

Anglesjö, Alice January 2020 (has links)

A qualitative study: how Solution Snippets are presented in Stack Overflow and how those Solution Snippets need to be adapted for reuse

Weeraddana, Nimmi Rashinika 22 March 2022 (has links)
Researchers use datasets of Question-Solution pairs to train machine learning models, such as source code generation models. A Question-Solution pair contains two parts: a programming question and its corresponding Solution Snippet. A Solution Snippet is a source code that solves a programming question. These datasets of Question-Solution pairs can be extracted from a number of different platforms. In this research, I study how Question-Solution pairs are extracted from Stack Overflow (SO). There are two limitations of datasets of Question-Solution pairs extracted from SO: (1) according to the authors of these datasets, some Question-Solution pairs contain Solution Snippets that do not solve the question correctly, and (2) these datasets do not contain the information on how Solution Snippets need to be reused, and such information would enhance the reusability of Solution Snippets. These limitations of datasets of pairs could adversely affect the quality of the code being generated by machine learning models. In this research, I conducted a qualitative study to categorize various presentations of Solution Snippets in SO’s answers as well as how Solution Snippets can be adapted for reuse. By doing so, I identified eight categories of how Solution Snippets are presented in SO’s answers and five categories of how Solution Snippets could be adapted. Based on these results, I concluded several potential reasons why it is not easy to create datasets of Question-Solution pairs. The first categorization informs that finding the correct location of the Solution Snippet is challenging when there are several code blocks within the answer to the question. Subsequently, the researcher must identify which code within that code block is the Solution Snippet. The second categorization informs that most Solution Snippets appear challenging to be adapted for reuse, and how Solution Snippets are potentially adapted is not explicitly stated in them. These insights shed light on creating better quality datasets from questions and answers posted on Stack Overflow. / Graduate

Choosing a Rendering Framework : A Comparative Evaluation of Modern JavaScript Rendering Frameworks

Wernersson, Denni, Sjölund, Viktor January 2023 (has links)
This bachelor thesis explores the rapidly evolving landscape of JavaScript rendering frameworks, comparing and evaluating Next.js, SvelteKit, and Astro. The motivation behind this investigation is to help determine the most suitable rendering framework for contemporary web developers. To address this problem, a two-pronged methodology was employed: firstly, a survey was conducted to gather insights into web developers' usage of rendering frameworks and their opinions on different aspects of the frameworks; secondly, a controlled experiment was carried out by building web applications using the three frameworks to gather data on their performance, capabilities, and developer experience. The results of the study indicate that all three evaluated frameworks are strong options, but each offers unique advantages and drawbacks that must be considered when motivating a decision between them.
