Ekonomie hvězdných hráčů – Poptávají Češi více hvězdné hráče na trhu profesionálních fotbalistů? / Economics of star players - Do Czech people demand star players on the professional football players market more?

Kotrba, Vojtěch January 2015 (has links)
This paper investigates presence of the superstar effect among users of the Czech fantasy league during seasons between years 2010 and 2013. Both main views are taken into consideration, namely Rosen's and also Adler's theory. Using regression models employing the method of least squares for panel data I show a positive superstar effect according to Rosen's theory in case when the star players are defined by their ability to score great amounts of goals. The presence of a positive superstar effect according to Adler's theory is not apparent in the models, which can be caused by the authors of the fantasy league overestimating the value of the star players beside their performance.

Judas död i Matteusevangeliet och Jesus Christ Superstar : En studie i modern receptionshistoria / Judas death in the gospel of Matthew and Jesus Christ Superstar : A comparative study of modern reception history

Lindgren, Emmy January 2016 (has links)
This paper will discuss the presentations of Judas Iscariot in the Gospel of Matthew and in Jesus Christ Superstar, a musical written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice in 1970. To do this, I will compare the two sources and evaluate what modern reception history has done with Judas as a character. I will be using a film version of the musical from 2000, which is available on YouTube. Mainly this study will examine the Matthean pericope and scene of Judas’ death to try to get an understanding of the presentation of the disciple Judas in biblical times and today. Because of the different types of material, the analyses of Matthew and the Musical will differ somewhat. A central argument is that Judas alone is responsible of his acton, betraying Jesus and taking his own life. I will in this paper argue that the presentation of Judas is not black or white. We need both the biblical and the modern presentation to create a credible presentation of the historical Judas.

Vliv online uživatelských hodnocení na poptávku po PC a video hrách / Impact of online user reviews on demand for PC and video games

Veselá, Anna January 2012 (has links)
The thesis examines impact of online user reviews, expressed in 5-star rating system, on demand for PC and video games. Used weekly data are collected from www.amazon.co.uk for period 2000 - 2012. The thesis contributes to discussion which takes place between supporters of superstar theory and supporters of long tail theory. Panel structure of the dataset referred to application of fixed effects model for estimation of basic and extended model. Both estimates proved negative influence of assigned number of stars on sales rank. Basic model estimated influence of one unit change of stars on rank by 9 positions, extended model estimated this change to be 10 positions. Quantile estimate also proved negative influence of stars on sales rank. The influence is strongest for the lowest quantile of dependent variable (tau = 0,05) representing 5 % best-selling titles, where one unit change of stars causes change of 35 positions in opposite direction. With increasing quantiles this influence decreases to zero. It proves that within the market for PC and video games online user reviews contribute to superstar effect.

Komparativní analýza televizních pořadů Zpívá celá rodina vs Česko hledá Superstar / Comparative analyses of television shows Zpívá celá rodina vs Česko hledá Superstar

Kopecká, Elizabeth January 2022 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with a comparative analysis of two singing competitions, Zpívá celá rodina and Česko hledá Superstar. The comparison is based on the analysis of the shows Zpívá celá rodina and Česko hledá Superstar. Since the analysed television singing competitions were broadcast in different eras, significant differences between the two television shows can be observed. The theoretical part deals with television entertainment, the definition of television singing contest formats, as well as the description of media audiences and television fans. The thesis includes a brief description of the TV music shows and singing competitions that were available on the domestic market. The following comparative analysis is based on comparing the two mentioned singing competitions. The thesis presents the findings that the different eras contributed significantly to the form of the television singing competitions and also had a considerable influence on the preferences of the television audience. The thesis also provides a rationale as to why the the above mentioned shows were so popular with television audiences and whether the concept of Zpívá celá rodina could still be successful today. This justification is supported by comments by music experts and personal experience of participating in the...

[pt] MICHEL FOUCAULT: O INTELECTUAL ENQUANTO SUPERASTRO / [en] MICHEL FOUCAULT: THE INTELLECTUAL WHILE SUPERSTAR

MATHEUS RIBEIRO ALVES DE LIMA 26 May 2022 (has links)
[en] This dissertation intends to understand to what extent the French philosopher Michel Foucault can be read as a superstar. The superstar is a category created by Silviano Santiago, in 1973, to analyze the happenings and performances of the singer-songwriter Caetano Veloso. The superstar operates through other notions coined by Santiago (2019) in other of his essays, such as desbunde and curtição, in addition to proposing a new relationship (in contrast to the star) with the press, with the artifice and with the body. In the configuration we give to the category, it also intertwines these relationships with notions such as humor, public and private, natural life and politically qualified life. Understanding that the category of superstar does not perfectly suit the figure of an intellectual, we displace three major categories by Costica Bradatan (2020): performance, narrative and audience. Although he used those categories to think about the philosopher-martyr; in this dissertation, they are displaced to better exemplify the philosopher-superstar in relation to three other terms: interview, biography and politics; respectively.

Superstar Firms and the State: Amazon in the U.S. and France during the Covid-19 Pandemic

Hernandez, Priscilla 21 March 2022 (has links)
This article explores the relationships between superstar firms, states, and labor during a period of sharp challenge to normal functioning of capitalist societies. My working definition of superstar firms includes firms that have amassed a formidable economic power in their home markets, but also hold a large amount of social, economic, and political influence in societies more generally. They are powerful enough to maneuver within the global capitalist field to side-step challenges from the state and labor as well as market competitors. This paper is focused on superstar firm Amazon in the United States and France during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. I find that governing practices affect Amazon workers through their state’s relationships to both firms and labor. Amazon workers in the U.S. have no strong ties to the firm, the state, nor the labor movement, while French workers have strong ties to labor unions and unions to the state, which ultimately informed the outcomes in each country. Similarly, I find that there can be variation even within nations, most apparent in the distinct behavior of U.S. (local) states. The U.S./France comparison illustrates that although both countries operate under neoliberal capitalist logics, each state’s relationship to firms and organized labor is significant in understanding the autonomy of Amazon, and by extension other superstar firms, from state control and labor challenges. It is with the rise of superstar firms and the variable power between superstar firms, state, and labor, that inequality is upheld, strengthened, and reinforced as normal within the system. Still, I hope that this work is lined with optimism in that there is a more just approach in managing superstar firms in an effort to delay or curb the harmful effects that workers or customers face.

Essays on the econometrics of inequality and poverty measurements / Essais à l'économétrie des mesures d'inégalité et de pauvreté

Ndoye, Abdoul Aziz Junior 02 July 2013 (has links)
This dissertation consists of four essays on the econometrics of inequality and poverty measurement. It provides a statistical analysis based on probabilistic models, finite mixture distributions and quantile regression models, all using aBayesian approach.Chapter 2 models income distribution using a mixture of lognormal densities. Using the analytical expression of inequality indices, it shows how a Rao-Blackwellised Gibbs sampler can lead to accurate inference on income inequality measurements even in small samples.Chapter 3 develops Bayesian inference for the unconditional quantile regression model based on the Re-centered Influence Function (RIF). It models the considered distribution by a mixture of lognormal densities and then provides conditional posterior densities for the quantile regression parameters. This approach is perceived to provide better estimates in the extreme quantiles in the presence of heavy tails as well as valid small sample confidence intervalsfor the Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition.Chapter 4 provides Bayesian inference for a mixture of two Pareto distributions which is then used to approximate the upper tail of a wage distribution. This mixture model is applied to the data from the CPS ORG to analyze the recent structure of top wages in the U.S. from 1992 through 2009. Findings are largely in accordance with the explanations combining the model of superstars and the model of tournaments in hierarchical organization structures. Chapter 5 makes use of the RIF-regression to measure both changes in the return to education across quantiles and rural urban inequality decomposition in consumption expenditure in Senegal.

Motstridiga motprestationer : En studie om museers finansiella möjligheter och utmaningar / Contradictory compensation : A study concerning museums financial possibilities and challenges

Schill, Emma, Ruckstuhl, Angelica January 2018 (has links)
Introduction This master ́s thesis focuses on the financial situation in a number of museums located in Stockholm, Sweden. In particular the study focuses on external financing and sponsorship and which means that are given to meet the conditions surrounding financial support. The aim of the study is to increase the knowledge of how the financial situation for museums looks like and how the interaction between cultural and economic capital shows. Theory The theoretical framework for the study is based on the theory of cultural economics and Pierre Bourdieu's theory of cultural / economic capital and his concept of space. The study used Bruno Freys terms Superstar Museumsand thetotal experience. Method The main method for the study was a comparative method, but a mixture of quantitative and qualitative methods were also applied in the study. Interviews were conducted with informants from a number of the museums and data from all the selected museums was collected and compared. The material also consisted of a variety of written material, mostly annual reports, but also news articles, reports and official documents. Analysis & Results The material shows a wide range of factors defining the economic situation of museums in Stockholm. A large part of the income comes from public fundings for the public museums. The private museums are more dependent on incomes from admission fees and external financing. For many of the public museums the market based rents for the building is an issue that causes economic distress. Conclusions Many museums work with sponsorships and have a positive view on external collaborations, at the same time the majority of the museums report a low revenue from sponsorships. The legal framework makes it more difficult for public museums to work with external financing and the taxation system aggravates sponsoring in museums. The free admission reform was both criticized and applauded and divided the private and public museums.
