Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Health is one of the themes proposed by the National Curriculum Guidelines to be crafted by the
school as a Transversal Theme. The Transversal Themes correspond to urgent issues for Brazilian
society, expressing concepts and fundamental to democracy and citizenship and their inclusion in the
school environment values implies a continuous work since the beginning of school life. In this context,
this dissertation sought to identify as the health Transversal Theme was running in the early years of
schools with low performance in the evaluation of the Índice de Desenvolvimento da Educação Básica
(IDEB). Thus, the work was divided into three phases being developed in three public schools from
Uruguaiana/RS, which had scores lower than 3.5 in IDEB 2009. The first step aimed at investigating
the academic training of teacher s unidocentes in relation to themes of health and investigate aspects
of the pedagogical practice of the health Transversal Theme through the application of a questionnaire
to 22 teachers unidocentes. In the second stage 8 Science textbooks were analyzed to verify the
presence of health and his approach as a Transversal Theme. The third step was aimed to provide
educational activities for health at school and jointly identify their perceptions of health, 360 students
participated in this step. According to the obtained results it can be seen, in general, that the health
issue is addressed in the pedagogical practices of the schools studied, but is not handled by the
teachers and the textbooks as a Transversal Theme. With regard to academic education, part of the
teachers reported that they had insufficient initial training on the health issue and found that they have
no prospects of continuing education. Thus, this deficit reflects in their training practices in which
health issues are treated mainly in science classes, the majority of teachers, through lectures using as
the main source of planning the textbook. In the second stage, the analysis showed that health
occupies a few pages in the textbooks which deal mainly on diseases. The results of the third stage
showed that most students associate the meaning of health eating habits and hygiene therefore, have
a fragmented understanding about health. In interventions students were receptive and participative
however we identified a lack of independence for carrying out the activities and considerable
difficulties in working with others. Upon execution of this work gaps that need to be filled were found
aiming to thus education for effective health care that can pass on a healthy life in adulthood and
likewise in improving school practices in an attempt to raise the grades of respective schools on
assessments of basic education. It is hoped that the questions raised in this dissertation as well as the
results and inferences can cooperate in future studies on education and health in the school context
and mostly generate provocations, reflections and discussions among students and professionals
about school practices with Transversal Themes. / A saúde é uma das temáticas propostas pelos Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (PCNs) para ser
trabalhada pela escola como um Tema Transversal. Os Temas Transversais correspondem a
questões urgentes para a sociedade brasileira, expressam conceitos e valores fundamentais à
democracia e à cidadania e a inclusão dos mesmos no ambiente escolar implica em um trabalho
contínuo desde o início da vida escolar. Neste contexto, a presente dissertação buscou identificar
como o Tema Transversal saúde estava sendo veiculado nos Anos Iniciais de escolas com baixo
rendimento na avaliação do Índice de Desenvolvimento da Educação Básica (IDEB). Desse modo, o
trabalho foi dividido em três etapas sendo desenvolvido em três escolas públicas do município de
Uruguaiana/RS, as quais obtiveram escores inferiores a 3,5 no IDEB 2009. A primeira etapa objetivou
averiguar a formação acadêmica dos professores unidocentes em relação à temática saúde e
investigar aspectos da prática pedagógica acerca do Tema Transversal saúde através da aplicação
de um questionário para 22 professoras unidocentes. Já na segunda etapa foram analisados 8 livros
didáticos de Ciências a fim de verificar a presença da saúde e a sua abordagem enquanto um Tema
Transversal. A terceira etapa teve como finalidade proporcionar atividades de educação para a saúde
aos escolares e conjuntamente identificar as suas percepções sobre saúde, nesta etapa participaram
360 alunos. De acordo com os resultados obtidos constata-se, de modo geral, que a temática saúde
está contemplada nas práticas pedagógicas das escolas estudadas, porém não é tratada pelas
educadoras e pelos livros didáticos como um Tema Transversal. Com relação à formação acadêmica,
parte das professoras relataram que tiveram uma formação inicial insuficiente sobre o tema saúde e
verificou-se que as mesmas não possuem perspectivas de formação continuada. Assim, essa
formação deficitária reflete nas suas práticas em que os assuntos sobre saúde são tratados
principalmente nas aulas de Ciências, pela maioria das professoras, por meio de aulas expositivas
que utilizam como principal fonte de planejamento o livro didático. Na segunda etapa as análises
demonstraram que a saúde ocupa um pequeno número de páginas nos livros didáticos os quais
abordam predominantemente sobre as doenças. Os resultados da terceira etapa mostraram que a
maioria dos estudantes associa o significado da saúde a hábitos alimentares e de higiene logo,
possuem uma compreensão fragmentada sobre a saúde. Nas intervenções os alunos foram
receptivos e participativos, entretanto identificou-se carência de independência para a realização das
atividades e dificuldades consideráveis para trabalhar em grupo. Após a execução deste trabalho
foram encontradas lacunas que necessitam serem preenchidas objetivando-se assim, uma educação
para a saúde efetiva que possa repercutir em uma vida saudável na fase adulta e do mesmo modo
em uma melhoria nas práticas escolares como tentativa de elevar as notas das respectivas escolas
nas avaliações da Educação Básica. Espera-se que os questionamentos levantados nesta
dissertação bem como os resultados obtidos e as inferências possam cooperar com estudos futuros
sobre educação e saúde no contexto escolar e principalmente levantem provocações, reflexões e
discussões entre estudantes e profissionais sobre as práticas escolares com Temas Transversais.

The thesis mainly deals with the specifics of Czech art at the time of communist totality. The main objective was to focus on the artists who due to circumstances found themselves at the edge of a cultural society. They were reconciled with this situation as they refused to betray the beliefs and denominations they confessed. The fundamental common point of their artistic freedom is the choice of themes. In this case it is the biblical theme that was first associated in the fifties with coping with existentialist feelings. And later on with finding artistic expression, which would contain spiritual overlap. In the first part we follow up iconographic parallels. In the second part we deal with individual authors and contexts that determined their artistic creation. In the group of authors are those who are engaged systematically in themes. Among others A. Divis, B. Reynek, I. Sobotka, V. Novakova, M. Medek, J. Koblasa and R. Piesen. In conclusion there is a treatise on contemporary philosophical trends that are connected with creation of our authors.

Beauty and the eye of the beholder : female adornment in the wedding scenes on attic vasesWolmarans, Kristien 07 November 2012 (has links)
M.A. / During the second half of the fifth-century B.C. there was a sudden proliferation of Attic vases depicting adornment scenes. These scenes showed groups of women making themselves desirable and for the first time women were eroticised within the context of marriage. Some scholars have argued that this sudden abundance reflected a change in the Attic attitude towards women, reflecting their increased social standing. These scholars proposed various hypotheses. It is conjectured that Perikles' Citizenship Law of 451/450 increased the social standing of Athenian daughters. The Peloponnesian War that raged from 431 to 404 BCE might also have forced women to take on more public responsibilities; to fill the gaps left by the military men's absence. This would explain why private activities of women became the subject matter of vase paintings at that time. According to this viewpoint women became the new customers of the potters. There are even scholars who maintain that these scenes contain hints of sexual liaisons between women. A competing hypothesis is that these scenes were used to impose a patriarchal ideal of femininity onto girls preparing themselves for marriage. Both these approaches imply that women were the primary viewers of these scenes. The aim of this study is to evaluate these hypotheses and to explore whether there may be other explanations. In order to investigate these issues a visual semiotic analysis was performed of thirteen painted vases representative of a variety of painters and vase shapes. This analysis was done in two parts: a structural analysis and a pragmatic analysis. The structural analysis consisted of a syntactic and semantic analysis, and helped to identify the pertinent signs and what they refer to. Artistic principles and the theory of Gestalt played an important role in identifying key signs. The pragmatic analysis delved deeper and was used to establish what message Athenian men and women might have read into these painted vases. This brought to light the master narrative prescribed by the patriarchy as well as women's acceptance thereof and how women used it to condition their daughters. A new hypothesis is proposed to explain the increase in this type of subject matter on painted vases. It is concluded that the buyers of the vases were mostly men but that the consumers of these artistic scenes were both male and female. It is also probable that after the Peloponnesian War these vases depicted a return to basic patriarchal values that may have degenerated during the war. It was also found that Perikles' Citizenship Law would have contributed more to the social standing of the male guardian, than to that of a girl of marriageable age. The eroticisation of women within the confines of marriage would thus have propagated the message of procreation within the patriarchal family structure, rather than referring to erotic encounters between women. These scenes, instead of showing the increased social standing of women, reflect a reinforcement of patriarchal values.

The theological role of "signs" in the Gospel of JohnHwang, Won-Ha 29 March 2004 (has links)
The author of the Gospel of John recorded the seven miracle accounts in his book and named them distinctively as shmei/on (‘sign’), while in the Synoptics the miracles are usually called du,namij (‘mighty deed’). This particular term signifies that the miracles of Jesus in this Gospel are significant occasions which carry associative theological messages. Thus Johannine research has always had a great deal of interest in this specific field. The important interpretative point to note is that the individual sign does not exist on its own but reciprocates the influence to the associated discourses on the revelatory mentions of Jesus and/or operates together with other signs in the specific features of its macro context. Thus the delivery of the message is maximised. As a result of the comprehensive analysis of the whole signs, it is clear that the author of this Gospel elaborately arranges seven signs, and thus draws his theological messages most efficiently. The main concern of shmei/a in this Gospel is to expose the Christological portraits of Jesus and some related theological themes. The divine identities of Jesus that are exposed by the signs are, for example, ‘the eschatological bridegroom,’ ‘the provider of eternal life,’ ‘the bringer of the eschatological salvation,’ and ‘the Messiah/Christ/King.’ Some related theological themes that are conveyed through the signs are, for example, ‘the replacement of the Jewish tradition,’ ‘the significance of a faith in Jesus,’ ‘glorification of Jesus,’ ‘unbelief,’ and ‘the discipleship.’ It is thus clear that the Johannine signs are written so that people may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing people may have Life in His name (cf. 20:31). / Dissertation (MTh.)--University of Pretoria, 2005. / New Testament Studies / unrestricted

Dynasties of demons : cannibalism from Lu Xun to Yu HuaKeefer, James Robinson 05 1900 (has links)
Dynasties of Demons: Cannibalism from Lu Xun to Yu Hua focuses on the issue of
representations of the body in modern Chinese fiction. My interest concerns the relationship, or
correspondence between "textual" bodies and the physical "realities" they are meant to represent,
particularly where those representations involve the body as a discursive site for the intersection
of state ideology and the individual. The relationship between the body and the state has been a
question of profound significance for modern Chinese literati dating back to the late Qing, but it
was Lu Xun who, with the publication of his short story "Kuangren riji" (Diary of a
Madman), in 1918, initiated the literaty discourse on China's "apparent penchant for
cannibalizing its own people.
In the first chapter of my dissertation I discuss L u Xun's fiction by exploring two distinct,
though not mutually exclusive issues: (1) his diagnosis of China's debilitating "spiritual illness,"
which he characterized as being cannibalistic; (2) his highly inventive, counter-intuitive narrative
strategy for critiquing traditional Chinese culture without contributing to or stimulating his
reader's prurient interests in violent spectacle. To my knowledge I am the first critic of modern
Chinese literature to write about Lu Xun's erasure of the spectacle body.
In Chapters II, III and IV, I discuss the writers Han Shaogong, Mo Yan, and Yu Hua,
respectively, to illustrate that sixty years after Lu Xun's madman first "wrote" the prophetic
words, chi ren A (eat people), a number of post-Mao writers took up their pens to announce
that the human feast did not end with Confucianism; on the contrary, with the advent of Maoism
the feasting began in earnest.
Each of these post-Mao writers approaches the issue of China's "spiritual dysfunction"
from quite different perspectives, which I have characterized in the following way: Han
Shaogong (Atavism); Mo Yan (Ambivalent-Nostalgia); and Yu Hua (Deconstruction). As
becomes evident through my analysis of selected texts, despite their very significant differences
(personal, geographic, stylistic) all three writers come to oddly similar conclusions that are, in

Parental Portrayals in Children's Literature: 1900-2000DeWitt, Amy L. 08 1900 (has links)
The portrayals of mothers and fathers in children's literature as companions, disciplinarians, caregivers, nurturers, and providers were documented in this research. The impact of time of publication, sex of author, award-winning status of book, best-selling status of book, race of characters, and sex of characters upon each of the five parental roles was assessed using descriptive statistics, cross-tabulation, and multinomial logistic regression techniques. A survey instrument developed for this study was completed for each of the 300 books randomly selected from the list of easy/picture books in the Children's Catalog (H.W. Wilson Company, 2001). To ensure all time periods were represented, the list was stratified by decades before sampling. It was expected that parental role portrayals would become more egalitarian and less traditional in each successive time period of publication. Male authors were expected to portray more egalitarian parental roles, and the race and sex of the young characters were not expected to influence parental portrayals. Award-winning books were expected to represent more egalitarian parental roles. Books that achieved the Publisher's Weekly all-time best-selling status were expected to portray parents in less egalitarian roles. Secondary analyses explored the prevalence of mothers' occupations, parental incompetence, and dangerous, solo child adventures. While the time of publication affected role portrayals, the evidence was unclear as to whether the changing roles represented greater egalitarianism. The race and the sex of the young characters significantly affected parental role portrayals, but the sex of the author did not influence these portrayals. While award winning and bestselling texts portrayed parents differently than books that did not achieve such honors, most did not provide enough information to adequately assess parenting roles. Half of the mothers who worked in the texts worked in conjunction with their husbands rather than independent of them. Over 10 % of mothers and fathers acted incompetently. The time of publication and the sex of the author was associated with the prevalence of solo, dangerous, child adventures. Subsequent implications and recommendations suggest the inclusion of stronger parental characters in children's books. Many of the parents are portrayed as inactive, incompetent, or neglectful. The concern is that children are exposed to these picture book portrayals during the primary years of identity acquisition.

In this final conclusion presented to the postgraduate studies in Languages Professional Network Program (PROFLETRAS), we intend to show search results in terms of theory and practice involving the production of dissertative-argumentative text using transversal themes (TT). The most purpose was to prove that the pedagogical support of New Information and Communication Digital Technologies (NTDIC) occurs in a very positive way. This is proved from our research goal: to compare the students’ production of dissertative-argumentative text before and after they use such tools as facilitators means of textual production, in terms of content. To execute our project, we use the internet as search source of information and knowledge of Transversal themes discussed in class. The idea was to enrich the field of information and knowledge of the students through reading, discussion and production of texts. The subjects of our research were students from Public School Governor Albano Franco, a school in the city of Aracaju, Sergipe. / Neste Trabalho de Conclusão Final, apresentado ao Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras Profissional em Rede (PROFLETRAS), pretendemos mostrar os resultados da pesquisa em termos de teoria e prática envolvendo a produção de texto dissertativo-argumentativo utilizando Temas Transversais (TT). O maior intento foi comprovar que o apoio pedagógico das Novas Tecnologias Digitais da Informação e Comunicação (NTDIC) se dá de forma bastante positiva. Isso se comprovou a partir de nosso objetivo de pesquisa: comparar a produção de texto dissertativo-argumentativo de alunos antes e depois de eles utilizarem tais ferramentas como meios facilitadores da produção textual, em termos de conteúdo. Para executarmos nosso projeto, utilizamos a internet como fonte de busca de informação e conhecimento dos Temas Transversais debatidos em sala de aula. A ideia foi enriquecer o campo de informação e conhecimento dos alunos por meio de leitura, debate e produção de textos. Carnivalisation of catastrophe: a study of comedy in Howard Barker’s Theatre of catastropheKhalvati, Mahboube 05 1900 (has links)
Bibliography: leaves 221-234 / This research explores the humour and laughter in Howard Barker's Theatre of Catastrophe in
the light of Mikhail Bakhtin's theory of the carnivalesque against the backdrop of the postSecond-World-War British (post-WWII) society and cultural tendencies and problems
thereof. In this research, which explores the different stages of Barker's work – namely plays
written in the seventies, the eighties and early nineties – I argue that comedy and laughter are
pivotal to Howard Barker's theory for theatre which ultimately shaped his Theatre of
Catastrophe as a tragic theatre.
Howard Barker forged the appearance of a unique theatrical practice, the Theatre of
Catastrophe, not only through the revival of pain, death and tragedy but also through the
juxtaposition of the carnivalesque and death/tragedy. This research therefore, studies
transformation in Barker's art of theatre in a period of twenty years and demonstrates how the
playwright deviates from tenets he set for his tragic theatre without necessarily betraying its
tragic spirit. It is worth highlighting the observation that, the marriage of catastrophe and the
carnivalesque remains the most significant achievement of Barker's art of theatre.
Chapter Two of the research explores Bakhtin's theory of the carnival through the elaboration
of crucial concepts such as the grotesque imagery, laughter and the marketplace. Bakhtin's
thoughts on laughter root in Henri Bergson's theory of laughter. Definitely the realm of
laughter somewhere in between art and life, both Bergson and Bakhtin also emphasise on the
negative aspect of laughter. The engagement of individuals in the marketplace creates the
concrete presence which is crucial to the carnivalesque. Taking into account the tenets of the Bakhtinian carnivalesque, this second chapter also concisely studies the challenges posed to
the carnival theory by philosophers such as Umberto Eco and Terry Eagleton. The chapter
finally investigates the revival of the concept of the carnival in the post-war British drama by
studying David Edgar's advocacy of Augusto Boal's thoughts on the theatre and the necessity
of the carnival.
Chapters Three and Four offer close analyses of the plays written by Barker in the seventies,
eighties and early nineties with the primary aim to show the turns and shifts that he takes in
the development of his career as an oppositional playwright in search of a remedy to the
cultural malaise of his day. The plays selected for these chapters are the ones which the
playwright has categorised as his best plays, namely, Claw (1975), Stripwell (1975), The
Love of a Good Man (1978), The Power of the Dog (1984), The Castle (1985), The
Europeans (1987), (Uncle) Vanya (1992).
Chapter Five sums up the findings on the research and concludes that Barker's comic sense
goes beyond the comic sense ascribed to many tragic playwrights. The comedy which
permeates his theatre of catastrophe shares affinities with the carnival leading to a
carnivalisation of catastrophe in Barker's tragic theatre despite the claims by the Barker and his downplaying of the comedy which exists in his oeuvre. / English Studies / D. Litt. et Phil. (English Studies)
