Child sexual abuse amongst Asian communities: developing materials to raise awareness in Bradford.

Gilligan, Philip A., Akhtar, Shamim January 2005 (has links)
No / This article starts from recognition that child sexual abuse is perpetrated in all communities, but appears to be under-reported to varying degrees in different communities. It acknowledges that children who have been sexually abused will usually benefit from services designed to assist them in moving on from this experience and to provide future protection from perpetrators. It notes, in particular, the apparent disproportionately low take-up of relevant services by members of Asian communities in Britain. It places this in the context of reported responses to child sexual abuse in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh and explores the likely impact of factors arising from cultural norms in relation to family structure and role relationships. It reports on work begun within Asian communities in Bradford to increase awareness of and appropriate responses to child sexual abuse which hopefully address issues which are or relevance elsewhere. In particular, it discusses responses to a preliminary questionnaire, discussions with community groups, a consultation event held in April 2003, and a multilingual information booklet produced as a result. It urges respectful dialogue with women, men, children and young people in Asian communities as being essential to progress regarding appropriate responses to child sexual abuse

[en] PORTFOLIO SELECTION INCORPORATING MACROECONOMIC VIEWS USING BLACK-LITTERMAN MODEL / [pt] SELEÇÃO DE PORTFÓLIO INCORPORANDO VISÕES MACROECONÔMICAS UTILIZANDO O MODELO BLACK-LITTERMAN

CAMILLO VIANNA CANTINI 08 February 2021 (has links)
[en] Black and Litterman proposed a portfolio selection model that blends investor s views on asset returns with market equilibrium concepts to construct optimal portfolios. However, the model efficiency relies on the performance of investors views regarding tradable assets, which is challenging in practice. Focusing on improving Black-Litterman practical application, this work consists in providing new allocations based upon views on macroeconomic factors, which are largely available but not directly tradable. The main advantage is that predictions on these factors are usually provided by market players. A case study based on the information disclosed by the Brazilian Central Bank is presented to test the proposed framework. The out-of-sample risk-adjusted returns obtained incorporating the players macroeconomic expectations through the use of the proposed framework outperformed the traditional mean-variance model as well as the local benchmark.

Shedding light on a muddled field : a Christian ethical appraisal of transforming and transformational leadership

Meier, Elke Annette 02 1900 (has links)
Principles of “transforming leadership” have been widely promoted since the publication of James McGregor Burns’ book Leadership, especially among Christian leaders. The purpose of this study is to examine the ethical foundations of his model and Bernard Bass’ “transformational leadership”. Imprecise use of the terms “transforming”, “charismatic”, and “transformational” leads to an adoption of methods without adequate understanding of the underlying value system. This literature review compares and evaluates the source texts within a framework of world view, intention, character and menschenbild, as well as the Christian ethical mandates of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Valuing the imago Dei in others has significant implications for a leader-follower relationship. Bonhoeffer’s mandates will help leaders reflect their position within their organisations and the wider society. Though the incentive for this research was leadership within the context of the Wycliffe Global Alliance, its findings will be relevant to Christian leadership in general, especially in intercultural contexts. / Philosophy & Systematic Theology / M. Cicero : 'haruspex' vicissitudinum mutationisque rei publicae : a study of Cicero's merit as political analyst

Schneider, Maridien 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (PhD)--Stellenbosch University, 2000. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study is to explore Marcus Tullius Cicero's awareness and interpretation of contemporary political events as reflected in his private correspondence during the last years of both the Roman republic and his own life. Cicero's correspondence gives a detailed view of current political events in Rome and constitutes, with Caesar's own narrative, our major contemporary evidence for the circumstances of the civil war of 49 BC. The dissertation takes as Leitmotiv Cicero's own judgement of the state as 'sacrificial victim' to the ambitions of individual politicians, with as metaphor his examination of a 'dying' body politic in the manner of a haruspex inspecting the entrails of a sacrificial animal. It poses the question whether Cicero understood the message of political decline signalled by the 'entrails' of the 'carcass' of the res publica, and whether this ability in its turn enabled him to anticipate future political development in Rome. In what follows, the theoretical input of Cicero's predecessors, their perceptions of constitutional development, and of Roman politics in particular, as well as Cicero's own perception of their political theories will be considered in order to determine the extent of Cicero's awareness of a larger pattern of political events, and how consistent he was in his analyses of such patterns, that is, to what extent Cicero may be considered seriously as a political analyst.
